Love the game, HATE, HATE, HATE the rating system...
Went on 2 online races this evening. 4 accidents, NONE caused by myself,
lost rating points on all. The last one was the most galling.
Out of the second tight turn at Spielberg & car in front
suddenly slides off right, then double backs straight in front of me.
Didn't see it coming back until it flashed in front of me to be t-boned!!!
The game needs to realise which cars are out of control... That's where the PROBLEM lies...
Not only a loss of rating points, but the game had the nerve to issue
a drive-through for overtaking from an accident (I think the other guy had stopped completely??) !!!!!!!!!
This system needs work... lots of work. One of the reasons I don't
do iRacing is because of all the crashfestdummies. Don't make AMS2
    the same please...

    Safety Rating explained

anyhow i think u are exaggerating, the rating system is super tolerant and will reward you more points than you can lose if u keep driving.
ofc if u ragequit after the contact u will end up with having not driven much but a contact penalty.

also a car out of control doesnt mean he is at fault. theres always 2 people to a crash. stop driving like you are alone on the track, use mirrors and u can stay clear of most of the accidents really.
"but the game had the nerve to issue a drive-through for overtaking from an accident" there is no overtaking penalty under yellow. u get such a penalty for overtaking while cutting, which may have been caused by you flying off

anyhow the safety rating doesnt really do anything, 99% of the servers either run U as minimum or have the rating off completly, so who really cares

IMHO, until sims implement a blame system or you have enough users to run splits, all these rating systems are pretty much worthless. It's just a false number that literally means nothing. Better to invest time in the leaderboards where your skill actually matters and isn't set by how many times you can avoid the less competent among us.

    I've told you a million times I don't exaggerate!

I gather it will be easy to "rig" a good rating?
I might test my theory today & let you all know about it later...

    "I've told you a million times I don't exaggerate!"

    Hyperbole -and- an oxymoron. Noice.

It was meant to be a joke.

    Anyway...
.. the rigging theory didn't work, so we'll scrap that idea.
Just had a race at Adelaide. Didn't have any accidents or offs
think I went through the first chicane fine each lap?
My licence went up, but somehow my points went down 15???
I didn't even scrape the wall at turn 8??? The only thing I can think is
that I finished 3rd out of three drivers?
Can you lose points for a "lowly" finish???

It'll arrive toward the end of the month, along with the FFB documentation.

I think the rating system works, the problem are the lobbies which are often rated too low to have a clean race. Every monkey can enter a race this way. Give this system some time and hopefully more C, B, A races will be there. Fingers crossed.

Yes, after "the Grind" comes "the Split". Been there done that, game was called PCARS2. Did not really work well with 1200 Players online at a time, will definately not work with 80.

Do you know why Pcars2 rating system did not work well?......

Also this is still in beta, so we'll all be hoping for further advancement.

I think a ratings system by itself isn't enough to keep people around. You have to do something with it to make people see the value. Private lobbies won't be enough for the general population. It will be nice for leagues since they can easily choose a standard minimum safety rating for new members.

People need to be funneled into defined daily races as the normal MP experience, with private lobbies supplementing them. This is important for AMS2 as it will provide opportunities for people to experience all that this game can offer (content + environment).

I never really got into Raceroom but their hosted races seem to be popular on RD. They follow the SRS model for the most part (practice, qualifying and a race) except their events go up in length based on license class. Which I think is great, as (generally) only very serious people want to race more than 20 minutes.

I like the GT Sport model of keeping qualifying separate too. At least in the rookie/am rooms. Tie-it to hosted time trials and that should keep people around.

I think you are right. Went into a server last night, GTEs @ Laguna Seca. Only one driver was of F or lower, most were C and up (I have an E licence so far). 30 minute race, hardly any accidents in the field. Low and behold, my points rating went up (not by much but it is finally heading back in the right direction), though I was slow and was nearly lapped!!!

As people advance their licence ratings, then there will be more servers with higher ratings, which will stop a bulk of the poor driving standards. Base servers serve a purpose of allowing newer racers to develop their craft and progress to "safer" servers. Hopefully the intentional wreckers will eventually get bored and move on elsewhere...

I like how you worded that lol :)

For what it's worth, I can't think of any racing title that doesn't blame all players involved in an accident.

IMO until the online population greatly increases to the point where there is multiple splits it really pointless as your just dividing the already low online numbers.

To draw more people to the title they need to focus on the games current issues before focusing on the rating system.

Looking forward to the scheduled online races... hopefully they will be hourly like iRacing and have several worldwide servers for better connections.

I have set up multiple multiplayer servers and the driver rating worked excellent for me.
I just put minimum rating to F1500 and that already results in pretty clean races where i went through multiple corners door to door without touching. I think the problem is you are playing gt3 servers... that car class just attracts idiots. I mean not to offend the people who like to drive them and do so well, but it's a general observation of people on gt3 servers in ANY sim.
