I'm wishing them well, but it's not easy to do this right. I'm not sure about the phone app requirement, it seems like an unnecessary complication, but it may be good as a form of authentication. Time will tell, it's an ambitious project so hopefully it's a real project, not an investor's cash grab like Star Citizen for something that's never finished...
I'm hoping it's not the case but it has NFT written all over it which is something we absolutely do not need in sims Plus I'm getting vibes of the vaporware that was Racing Legends way back in the GPL days Normally I'd be excited and vouching for any new sim release but this just seems particularly shady to me so I can't really trust it
We think yore variety is a good thing, but we also think it's an NFT scam since everything is VERY vague on the homepage, "real digital ownership" isn't explained at all and the trailer is nothing but a render of a porsche. Billy Strange said the same, but more in depth:
Blockchain doesn't have to be bad. One thing it can be useful for is storing a decentralised rating info which can't be amended reducing the database costs for example meaning the rating doesn't have to be maintained by the vendor after the dev cycle finishes. I could never grasp the idea of NFT, other than paying for nothing, so I seriously can't see how this may be implemented in a useful way...
Im also still not sure what to make of it, but isnt it basically the same as CSGO weaponskins or Diablo items being traded at an online marketplace? For Simracing we could be talking about buying and selling liveries and I think that could actually be kind of cool if done right but it doesnt seem to be the case with this new Rennsport game... Not sure how that would even work for buying a "used" car or track though, that sounds like it would require a complete overhaul on how DLC works for publishers etc...
@F1Aussie You buy the ownership for your profilepic. You get some weird randomcode that tells it's yours, etc, but literally everyone can just screenshot/copy-paste your profilepic and use it anyway. So NFTs are just some kind of money laundering
Interesting, it all seems a bit pointless, there are some people out there that are very clever at being able to make money from trivial sales / services.
