Can't run game in VR

Can start in desktop mode, but VR goes immediately into black screen. Have re-installed game. Have taken trace options, but no file. Completely stuck.

Only clue is that I have recently changed from Oculus Rift CV1 to Valve Index.
and yes, I am using "run in Steam VR mode"

Sometinmes desktop stays black, other times I get this screen but PC is locked. Crt-Alt-Del etc, don't work at all.

Steps to reproduce: Start Steam/VR, start game in SteamVR mode, goes black, no log file

PC: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X 3.60 GHz, 16GB RAM, 64-bit, Windows 10

 

Probably not the issue, I'm just throwing stuff at the wall to see if it sticks, but when I last had a problem like this it was due to my Windows user folder path containing a special character that wasn't like a-zA-Z0-9_

To test, try creating another Windows user account with a simple username and install Steam there.

 

Everything's worth trying. No this didn't stick, but thanks for suggestion. Curiously, just tried and the game works fine with Oculus Rift, so it's just the Valve Index/Steam VR causing problems.

 

From the screenshot it seems like a problem with AMS2 itself. Any OC? I used to get Bugsplats on an overclocked PC that ran fine otherwise, just not in AMS2

 

try to uninstall Oculus or disable Oculus services in the services control panel

Thanks Remco - see above, AMS 2 didn't like Oculus services running in background.

 

i had a similar problem with Rift/Querst2 and HP Reverb.
When OC service runs in background, SteamVR takes the wrong renderer.
They don't assume that one could have more than on head set
