Does AMS 2 support head tracking (TrackIR)?

I can't get the beta version of the game to recognize head tracking (TrackIR) in the non-VR game.
TrackIR works fine for all other standard racing sim titles for me.
Head tracking in VR (i.e. Oculus Rift) works fine.

Not that big a deal, but any advice appreciated.

 

Launch in VR mode and be sure you are in helmet cam. Works for me.

Confirmed that it works that way
I had to make sure that Oculus background properties were not running or true VR would interfere
Turned off the visible helmet - hate that
Not fond of the default TrackIR profile for this - too much in-game movement relative to head movement but I expect I can create a TrackIR profile and adjust it there if desired

 

You mean to say to get TrackIR working you need to launch the game in VR mode?

That's dumb as I don't want to launch SteamVR and have my headset and base stations power up just to use TrackIR

And what about people who don't have VR?

 

Something´s going wrong on mine. VR mode and Helmet, but doesn´t recognize my head tracking. I´m using last drivers on trackir 5 and other games works fine.

 

Can you be somewhat more specific please? What processes did you have to close to get it working?

 

Hi Guys, I just bought the game and same issue, my Track IR 5 seems not managed by the game.

 

Maybe it is related to the game engine? I've had something similar happen to me both in PCARS2 and now AMS2. After playing for a while, the head tracking would just stop working. Yesterday I've had the same happen after around 3 hours of playing, and it could only be fixed be restarting the game as well as the TrackIR software. (TrackIR 4 user here, by the way.)

 

Can you tell how do you do to use your TrackIR with AMS2? Any settings to do ? I start the game normally and with VR support, but it does not work :/

 

I got it working by starting in steam VR mode, then selecting helmet cam. Helmet cam is the only view it seems to work in.

 

Pretty much this. I've not had any issues with TrackIR in neither PC2 or AMS2, and both work in the same way and can use any of the TrackIR profiles that I have.

Just make sure you're in the helmet cam when you're driving on the circuit with TrackIR running before launching the application in Steam VR mode. In the Options menu, there should be a Camera Settings page where you will find a tab with the options for adjusting the Helmet cam settings, disabling the helmet overlay (also disables the muffled sound effects), World Movement, G-Force effects and the Look To Apex settings. I'd recommend disabling all the Look to Apex stuff (setting it to 0), as that functionality will still be applied when you're using TrackIR which obviously you don't want.

Problem solved : in the TrackIR software, you must click on "Game update" (on top right). Once done, it works now in AMS 2

 

I don't have any message saying "Game update" on my TrackIR V5.4.2.27545

So you say it works. Is that in SteamVR mode or normal mode?

It would be nice to have a head tracking option in the game to prevent having to use VR mode.

 

I feel to have to run the game in SteamVR mode is ridiculous to play this with TrackIR. I don't want SteamVR running in the background which powers on my Valve Index and both lighthouses just to play this with TrackIR.

I do not have VR capability nor am I familiar with VR software but when I run TIR in AMS2 I do not see any app or service named "SteamVR" running in the background. I have attached a screengrab of how I launch the game - is this how you are doing it?

It looks like ViewTracker required PC2 to be run in SteamVr mode too (PC2 shown in game list), so maybe it's a niggle with the game engine.
