I tried Bathurs (Mount Panorama) in VR and the 2D-trees look disturbing and destroy the immersion for me because all trees and branches hanging over the track always rotate while driving by. You have the feeling of being the Queen of England walking a military parade and all soldiers have to turn their heads to follow you with their eyes as soon as you pass them... Sorry for my English, I hope you know what I mean...
Turning trees is better than choppy VR and sudden pop-ins which actively redirect attention. Once your brain learns to tune out what is not relevant for the task at hand, you won’t notice this any longer.
They can leave most of the trees as 2D models for performance reason. Only the ones very close to the track where the branches are hanging over the track should be 3D like it is already the case on the long Monaco straight where the start-finish line is. Here also the branches hang over the track...
Couldn't Reiza just delay the rotation by a second? I can see it in my triples but only if I look for it, while normal driving its not something I see. I think if the rotation is delayed by a second or even less this wouldn't be an issue. I don't want 3D trees, I remember them from pC2 and they created worse shadows and worse performance!
I'm using a monitor at a lower FOV so it doesn't happen all the time but sometimes is very distracting. I think if it's just some trees at critical points the fps drop might not be that bad.
I don’t want to learn my brain to ignore glitches, I prefer that the glitches are being fixed... This could be done by either using some 3D trees only at critical points or by delaying the rotation for some milliseconds until I can’t see it anymore...
Yes, I just summed up the mentioned solutions. Another possibility would be: stop the rotation at all. Why delay a rotation until I can’t see it? Then it wouldn’t have to rotate at all because nobody would ever see the rotation anyway...
