Hello devs, just bought a new Pimax too (Pimax 8K plus) and would also like to know if you could add Pimax VR support without parallel projection?

    Pleeeaaase!

Hello, I have a pimax 5K + and the trick for PCars works very well.
Except that it is necessary to replace 378860 by 1066890 for the EA version of AMS2, and 1066880 for the beta.

In fact these numbers just match the game ID in Steam.
be careful with extensions not visible in the folders.
your text file should be called steam_appid.txt and not steam_appid.txt.txt

Often the game already appears in Pitool, do not use this one but It is mandatory to create a new shortcut in Pitool to AMS2.

Hi, tried it but have 4 problems:

    1. I’m not sitting in the middle of the car-seat anymore but a bit more to the right with this hack. Reset VR-view doesn’t help...

    2. Can’t see the FPS to check if the “hack‘ brings really a FPS-gain, because all FPS-apps (like FPSVR...) only work with SteamVR but this hack closes SteamVR and with it all fps-apps.

    3. Can’t use resolution setting (Super sampling) in SteamVR because SteamVR is not being used with this hack, right? Pi-tool has also such settings but only in 0.25-steps (0.75, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5....).

    3. Game is stuttering for me with the hack (and can’t check FPS).

BTW: Does this “hack” really bring bonus FPS or is it just because of lower resolution (without parallel projection the resolution is lower in SteamVR...)?

My experience is that the PC2 hack does not improve FPS.

I think that to get an FPS improvement the developers would need to create a new mode in the code like they did for RFactor 2.

Yeah, have the same feeling. Do you think we have a chance that the devs will implement this?
I really hope so, because it’s a great sim and it would deserve best VR performance. Maybe it’s not such a huge effort to implement it...

I really hope they implement it. It's supposed to be a simple thing to do for the developers.

Yep, i have stuttering with my pimax 8k+ (Pcars2 hack, no PP, try with 72hz and 90hz). Work perfectly with my occulus but with Pimax no.
And the big problem is i'm never seat on center of the car.

Iracing : Work perfectly 90fps and center (Without base station)

I play without PC2hack because of your described problems, with 72 Hz and with small (!) FOV.
Okay I don’t use the strength of my Pimax (wide FOV) with AMS2 but at least I can play with fluid 72 FPS and very sharp and good picture quality (at least in dry and sunny conditions) without any upsampling neither in SteamVR nor in Pitool.
It’s still much better than with my old Rift because of superb picture quality and FOV is even on “small” a tiny bit bigger than with my Rift.
I use normal/wide FOV in many other games though, especially without parallel projection...

Just for information: this was a post in rFactor2-forum from June 2019 when devs informed in their roadmap that they solved this problem in a small patch (hope Reiza will do this too):

[SOLVED] - [Solved!]Non parallel projection in VR (Pimax 5/8K)

    From this months Road Map

    VR Features
We basically added two new things. Support for “IPD” or “World Scale” adjustments, which allow the fine tuning of the distance between the eye cameras in game. Some headsets have hardware controls for this too, but due to popular demand from people in our community we added this as a software feature too. This adjustment allows changing stereo separation strength, which leads to different perception of VR image and in some cases increases comfort. We’ve added key bindings to increase, decrease or even reset the IPD so you can map those and make adjustments while sitting in the cockpit (don’t adjust and drive though!).

The second feature we added is for users of the Pimax (and possibly other similarly constructed headsets). It allows you to enable or disable a specific projection mode that respects the orientation of the displays in the headsets. On the Pimax they are canted. Setting this feature, that for now needs to be changed in the player.json text file, to “1” enables this new option for Pimax. As a side effect, rendering on Pimax becomes roughly 25% more efficient, which is a nice bonus.

Below is an overview of both settings as they appear in your player.json:
    Code:
    "VR IPD Scale": 1,
"VR IPD Scale#": "VR IPD Scale: Adjusts IPD distance
between eyes. 1.0 = default IPD
distance, as reported by the HMD,
    below 1.0 = reduce, above 1.0 =
    increase",
    "VR Projection Mode": 0,
"VR Projection Mode#": "VR Projection Mode: 0 =
    default, 1 = not in-plane displays
    HMDs",

Another Pimax user here (8KX). Would love to see this addressed!

That 25-30% performance loss we have today running the headset in compatibility mode for non-canted displays is a real killer. I’m running a 3080 graphics card, and just barely squeaking out enough performance to get a smooth native frame rate (75Hz) with no stuttering. What a game changer this would be if Reiza could figure that out and have support for angled/canted/non-parallel VR displays. Loving AMS 2 regardless!
