We welcome all drivers for the second season of our AMS2 historic F1 racing league. (Credit for both this image and these skins go to Leorock at this link) *** Many of you participated in races or saw forum posts about our previous AMS2 season, where we used Formula Classic Gen 3 cars. This year we are jumping forward a few years in history and will use both cars in the F1 V10 Gen 1 category. (Full credit to both @Prophet for creating and maintaining the league and @InfernalVortex for his sustained contributions to the league. They have established a fun and welcoming community that we hope will continue to grow as the user base on AMS2 expands.) *** Open Participation: There are no requirements to join. We encourage drivers of all skill levels to participate. We will not password-protect the opening races as we seek to gather new participants. That said, we may move to a password later in the season if we approach maximum participation limits. We also encourage all drivers to join the league discord (Join the Champions League Discord Server!). The discord is a good place to share setup advice, discuss driving tips, notify friends when we are currently hosting multiplayer sessions, etc. *** Key Information: (1) The season will include eight official races that count for points and are run using the F1 V10 Gen 1 class in AMS2. These are held roughly in a two-on / one-off format (e.g., two races in successive weekends, followed by a weekend off). During off weeks, we will hold unofficial, non-championship events using different cars and tracks. The proposed unofficial events are tentative; we will continue to seek suggestions from league participants as we move forward. (2) Lobbies will open on Saturdays at 5:00 pm U.S. Eastern Time (22:00 GMT). Events will consist of 40 minutes of open practice, 20 minutes of qualifying, and the race itself. (3) The eight official events will have race distances set to 50% of a standard F1 Grand Prix distance. (We will reevaluate this going forward if the races prove too long. Last season all races lasted seventeen laps, and this did not seem excessive. This season we are using faster cars, so we are experimenting with slightly longer events.) Non-championship events will remain somewhat shorter. (4) Some events will include changeable weather or even wet conditions. Practice and qualifying weather is unchanging during each session and is set to the same weather as start-of-race-conditions. Track time for practice, qualifying, and race sessions is always set to 14:00. Weather and time progression are set to normal speed. (5) Drivers are expected to uphold appropriate on-track etiquette. Dirty driving, blocking, disobeying blue flags, or any other unsporting behavior on track will result in a penalty, disqualification, or prohibition from future events. Complete rules are available in the discord. Our overriding goal is to create a league in which we compete respectfully. (6) Championship scoring has not yet been finalized, but we will tentatively use a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system. Each driver’s two worst results will be dropped from championship calculations. This will also enable drivers to miss several events without a championship penalty. Tie-breakers will be determined based on highest finishing positions. *** Schedule of Events: November 21: Practice Race Track/Distance: Imola GP (31 laps) Weather: Clear -> Light Cloud -> Medium Cloud November 28: Race 1 Track/Distance: Austria (35 laps) Weather: Light Cloud December 5: Race 2 Track: Interlagos (35 laps) Weather: Storm December 12: Unofficial Event Class/Track/Distance: Formula Vintage G2 at Nordschleife (5 laps) Weather: Clear December 19: Race 3 Track/Distance: Kyalami GP (33 laps) Weather: Heavy Cloud December 26: Unofficial Event Class/Track/Distance: Formula Retro at Jacarepagua (24 laps) Weather: Overcast January 2: Race 4 Track/Distance: Montreal GP (34 laps) Weather: Heavy Cloud -> Medium Cloud -> Light Cloud -> Clear January 9: Race 5 Track/Distance: Silverstone 2001 (29 laps) Weather: Clear January 16: Unofficial Event Class/Track/Distance: Formula Classic G2 at Goiania (31 laps) Weather: Clear January 23: Race 6 Track/Distance: Monaco (39 laps) Weather: Overcast January 30: Race 7 Track/Distance: Kansai/Suzuka GP (26 laps) Weather: Storm February 6: Unofficial Event Class/Track/Distance: F1 V10 G2 at Hockenheimring (26 laps) Weather: Light Cloud February 13: Race 8 Track/Distance: Spa* (22 laps) Weather: Light Cloud -> Medium Cloud -> Heavy Cloud -> Overcast *We will probably use Jerez if Spa has not been released *** Please post below and join the league discord (Join the Champions League Discord Server!) if you are interested in participating!
This looks fantastic. Glad Imola isnt a championship round as im terrible there. I would recommend specifying which versions of these circuits we are using, though. I assume it is Imola 2001?
I think Prophet wanted to use modern Imola because it creates the best overtaking opportunity. I'll double check the names of the tracks next time I open up AMS2 (hopefully later today).
Quick update: we are temporarily reducing the race distances until glitches related to the pit strategy menu and pitting options are resolved. The updated lap counts for official races are listed below (all tracks are the most recent "F1" layout with the exception of Silverstone, where we will use the 2001 layout): Race 1: Austria/Spielberg GP - 27 laps Race 2: Interlagos GP - 27 laps Race 3: Kyalami GP - 26 laps Race 4: Montreal GP - 27 laps Race 5: Silverstone 2001 - 23 laps Race 6: Monaco - 29 laps Race 7: Suzuka - 20 laps Race 8: Spa - 17 laps
Really good and exciting video - appreciated. Maybe I should install this Discord thing (mandatory?) and check out how to make the tires last longer than in my prefered LB mode. ByTheWay: Eventhough the more hasardeous (wreck-ish) episodes was left out then I could still see some uber-agression a few times in the video. In the peripheral views I mean.
The races are open to the public. The aggros tend to leave after they've wrecked though, so no serious problems there so far.
