So while I'm in love with the GT1 cars (McLaren is currently my car of choice), however I'm struggling a lot with controlled acceleration out of slow corners, think Club Corner at Silverstone where the acceleration is on a curvy path. While I can accelerate in many other cars fairly efficiently, GT1 puzzles me. I know there's plenty of power under the bonnet (I know, mid engines...), but after many attempts I have to take acceleration in a very conservative fashion by not pressing the pedal too far. AI even set at rather low setting gets away from those while I'm constantly on the edge with grip to get to speed. When pushing things go rather drifty (and predictably into the barriers), which is not ideal. I think I have a sensible line, not whacking the throttle or anything, steering on a smooth side too. Hardware it's smooth, linear input. I've hit the wall and don't know what else to try and how to get the GT1 to actually enjoy the speed as much as the rest of the cars. What is your way to get the throttle under control and still accelerate pretty quick?
Club corner is not a full throttle corner, in fact I find it's a very tricky corner to get right throttle wise. You definitely can give it too much throttle there and spin yourself around. As for the GT1s I know there are some issues in low speed corners related to the differential, perhaps look there. But club corner is not a low speed corner, so a couple other ideas: Hows your rear wing, maybe you need some more? And if you're oversteering too much on throttle application out of the corner, maybe soften up the rear springs/anti roll bar a bit.
I have been driving the Porsche GT1 at Imola'01 and Hockenheim'01 and found out that increasing the visious lock(?) at the differential settings helps a lot with the stabilizing the car on throttle. So play with that setting and try to find your balance as it can also cause a lot of understeer. Other than that i suggest doing what ControlLogix said.
That's exactly what I'm doing, however I'm not expecting that I can floor it and get away with it. It's mostly around AI which simply drives off that corner while I'm struggling with power application. I'll give the setup methods a go and feed back to you guys, however I'm sure AI doesn't use bespoke setups to have so much advantage. Or do they?
Ah I see. Yes I have noticed in some corners the AI can accelerate out a lot faster than I can. It might be that they have a better line, but sometimes they seem like they're using a bit of a different physics model than I am So maybe you shouldn't necessarily try to compare your line and speed to the AI as they may have slightly different "rules" when it comes to the physics. I'm just guessing, maybe someone who knows for sure can chime in.
Yep, this. It will drive you mad if you judge yourself against them, best to judge against yourself. In fact I'd love to see some algorithms thrown on the A.I to have them sideways/oversteering etc now and again...
I agree about giving the AI some more personality. AI is greatly improved from a few months ago, but that would take it to another level.
Totally an AI issue. Try some TTs and find a ghost that is sightly faster than you. That really would be the best place to see where you need improvement and what the car can do.
Bah, that's good to know then it's not just my poor car control then. Sadly it makes the racing a tad more difficult when AI is in a different league. Making AI slower sets them as very easy targets at braking and nearly inviting for divebombs. Thanks a lot for your help!
