I m not 100% sure if this is a game bug or a problem on my end. It happens only with h pattern cars (or maybe it is just a bad coincidence?). Haven't noticed it in other games too..

If it is a bug, i will post it in bug section.

    So what is my problem?

First of all I use a g27 wheel and shifter.

Let s say i pick an h pattern car (uno classic b for example but happens in other h pattern cars too). There are times - while i am on a gear (lets say 3rd) - that with no obvious reason the gear goes to neutral. I will have to either press the clutch once or manually put the gear again to make it work again (sometimes the 1st works, sometimes the 2nd)

This has happened many times , especially while i m on 3rd, 4th or 5th gear in h pattern cars

Has anyone else experienced this? Or, any thoughts what could be the prob?

So if your shifter is okay then:

Does the gear jump out if you apply more and more throttle?
You are maybe damaging your transmission for some reason. (Could be too fast/missing shifts, for example, which will also cause damge, if you get the gear in, but timed poorly)

The gear damage in AMS2 will damage the gear, that you are missing/destroying and it will show in jumping out, when applying more torque to it. (So it's actually an "i lost a gear" situation, you could say)

When you have this issue again, try applying the gear and see if it jumps to neutral, when you apply more throttle to it. That's in fact gear damage then.

@Haris1977 It's possibly the potentiometers in the shifter. To test, have the car in gear and while holding the lever, sort of put pressure each way without taking it out of gear.
Also, open up joy.cpl via windows search bar, select the wheel/shifter, click properties and test there.

If it does look like the pots, then they can be cleaned, but are fiddly in the shifters. Also, they don't tend to last too long once they start playing up.

Thanks for both your comments :)

I tried the joy.cpl option and yes, it seems that smth is wrong with my potentiometers (especially in 3rd gear). There are times that while i am on 3rd gear, out of a sudden the yellow mark of the gear dissapears from the g27 wheel properties box. Mostly happens on 3rd btw. Dont have to press the gear stick, it just randomly happens.

I guess they need to be cleaned up or replaced, but it is a difficult and time consuming task.

Also my pedals are spiking (gas, brake), but again i can not clean them (as much i want) cause my 3 wirings are stuck into the potentiometers and can't be removed.

Well, i guess it's time to upgrade my pedals and shifter i guess (i m thinking bout tlcm's along with the shh shifter)

Ah, that's unfortunate mate. I have cleaned mine (Pedals and shifter) a few times over the years (G29/G25) but yeah, they're not the best quality. I badgered Logitech for a good while regards supplying replacement POTS, but of course they want to sell new products, understandable to a point.
There are also other POT models that you can fit, but they're never quite the same once you start 'modding' in different bits.
The SHH shifter does look pretty good though!

Potentiometers, in a shifter? Don't they just have switches?

No, the shifter is basically an analog stick where having the stick in certain zones is interpreted as being in a certain gear, and then the driver presents that to the game as a particular button being pressed. The Thrustmaster TH8 is similar, except using a hall effect sensor rather than potentiometers - and the calibration app for that lets you adjust the individual gear zones.

Yep as @CorvusCorax says above @Andrew Hollom [Thumbs up]. In fact, the next time mine starts playing up, I may look into fitting/modding microswitches in. Hmm.

Can Confirm, I use SHH shifter, I loose 3rd gear every once in a while do to downshifting to early and engine braking. It will show Transmission damage. You can get by 2 or 3 times with it jumping back to neutral, then you loose the gear all together.. That's Racing. Good Stuff Reiza

Well that s not exactly my prob.

I m almost sure that my "issue" is lying on my old (or not cleaned?) shifter potentiometers (i use a second hand g27 wheel and shifter) cause this also happens in logitech profiler. I will open the shifter to see if there is any debris in it (i have never opened my shifter)

Btw @Steve Young what s your opinion bout the shh? I am about to buy it

Yes. Same exact thing. G27. Does not happen in every h pattern car. Most are fine. Specifically today I had random miss shifts to neutral into Druids, and into Paddock Hill using the JCW mini at Brands Indy. Inexplicable miss shifts. Even tried very carefully shifting. Again most cars I have zero problems. The odd combo I just have to quit as the miss shifts are super random and ruin the race.

The mini JCW in ams2 have a sequential gear box.. not a H pattern, maybe it could explain.

Yes, Mini John Cooper Works in AMS2 is the race version with sequential gearbox and clutch LSD.

Yes I thought of this after! I didn't have paddles or aiologs mapped so I was using the H and the car was not happy. I didn't think of it at the time while in game. Thanks for the reply!
