I am trying to use H-pattern Fanatec shifter in the Catarham and have all assignments for gears 1-6 set correctly but when I drive car, the shifter is completely ignored. Only way to shift is with wheel paddle shifters. How do I enable the Fanatec 1.5 shifter in this game? Is there some setting in it I have to change?

Use Custom Wheel instead of Fanatec

You mean change some setting in game to "Custom Wheel" instead of "Fanatec"?

In the main controls settings Wheel Make: Custom

It requires you to set all your mappings new, but it should work then.

First Assign every button, Edit your FFB settings, etc. Calibrate Wheel and pedals. Have fun racing

OK, not very intuitive since it is a Fanatec wheel to have to change it to Custom, but I'll give it a go.

Be on Fanatec driver 381 or newer was my solution.
I'm using the CSWv2 preset not custom, once I tick the combine paddles, seq in Fanatec driver, map paddles in game and H in game it's all good.

When you say "Fanatec driver" do you mean the "PC Driver"? It seems I am on 400 as below... anything else look wrong? Also I have no idea why the GT2 firmware is not showing up when connected to wheel base as it is...

Also where is this - "once I tick the combine paddles, seq in Fanatec driver"?

Yeah the PC Driver that is the Fanatec driver from their forum or product page.
    381 for me works best.
    Screenshot (178).png
It used to be combine but on this driver it is now this ↓↓ on the settings tab
    Screenshot (179).png
and it looks like this when using a paddle or seq when in the driver page

Thanks for all the effort to answer.

I don't think I want to use older drivers - prefer to keep latest.

I don't have a universal hub so I'll have to see if any of that is on any of the other settings pages... I do remember the shifter test settings on the BMW wheel controller settings page and I did test that it was working, and could see the red dots as i changed gears on the shifter - it also calibrated on the BMW LCD display.

Anyway unless i am mistaken your instructions seems to be for getting wheel paddle shifters working? - the wheel paddles are working correctly, that is not the problem, it is the actual real shifter in H-pattern mode (on the Shifter SQ V1.5) which was not working at all in game.

I haven't had time since to get back into rig to test all suggestions here yet.

That's cool mate, hope I can help.
It is the same thing for any if my rims, just I had the Uni Hub connected at the time.
If you have the seq working then it's just a matter of flicking the switch to H pattern and mapping them in game 1 to 7/R and it should be good to go.
Only issue I had on older drivers was even with the combine box ticked and it showed as red in the driver nothing happened in game. H pattern worked though.
If this isn't working I would try latest driver, there is a new one again I've seen talked about on FB or reinstall/ repair your current one.
    Good luck.

I just had a thought, is the Caterham your trying to drive actually H pattern? Many are seq in game.
Make sure and then try another car like the Chevvette/ Copa that is confirmed as H pattern.

Well it looks like it should be - the car has a manual gear stick to left of driver

Well I did all that and confirmed that the mappings were correct - ie... it said 1st gear was button 14 I think and when I remapped button by using shifter in first gear it still stayed at button 14. Then i tested it by trying to change gear 2 to gear 1 on the shifter and it warned my that the assignment was already for the other gear.

Read the ui to check what the car has in game and try a confirmed H pattern car.
I think 13 is 1st for me. I will check.

The Supersport should also be H-Shifter. (But UI info still wrong)

Confirmed, UI is wrong, in fact the supersport is H-Pattern as well, and works fine with H-Pattern on my fanatec.

my settings below (you are ticking the "manual" gearing in the setup page to OP?)

Ignore the forumla v2 rim thing, i have the universal hub wheel on at the moment, but works with my porshe as well, no issues on h-patterns.

    Sneaky edit is sneaky.

Anyway, as a first step try Wheel Make: Custom and remap the whole controls. This solves these issues in 99% of the cases.
