It would be pretty neat if we could open doors and have a closer look inside of the cars, perhaps it could be a "showroom" feature. The interior modelling is quite good its just a shame we cant get a closer look.

I agree! I play in VR and sometimes when the car is in the pits, I just stand up and walk around the car for a better view, it's awesome! But most of the cars don't model a physical engine in the engine bay. Most cars are missing it, and also on the karts, they don't show the chain/belt that drives the wheels. There would have to be a whole new team of people hired to do all the remaining modelling work on every car.

I was just about to post about this, albeit for a slightly different reason. I like to try to set up my rig to match the cars as realistically as possible, so initially I was hoping they could add more info to the car browser screen about when a car has a Seq gearbox whether that was paddle operated or with a lever.

I also like to know what shape of wheel the car uses and also where it sits in relation to the dashboard, I'm always messing about with seat height trying to work out whether rev counter is displayed through the wheel or partially obscured etc.

If there was an option in Showroom to switch to a camera that is set up in the drivers seating position then that would be perfect, I could see what wheel, where it sits and also whether it has paddle shifters or whether there is a shift lever instead. No need to fit more into the already crammed car browser and surely not much more work to add another camera point? I know I can technically do this for myself, but annoyingly have to go right into options to enable the in car wheel load into the game, move seat position around to look for shift lever, then exit out, switch off wheel....

I really don't want to have to go to showroom to see how to best drive the cars. Having all the car information where we select each car I'd the most intuitive way and if the current screen is to cluttered (i don't think it is) then a redesign would be the best idea and I'm sure easier than implementing a new camera in the showroom.

Having a extra camera in the showroom wouldn't be a bad idea but surely not the solution for finding car shifting or steering designs.

I also drive with the virtual wheel off so sometimes have to pause and go to photo mode to check what wheel the car has, Having all info on the car selection screen would be ideal. The paddles/stick gets to me more though, but now I pretty well know every car in game but for new comers the Ui would be the best place, also a more in-depth car specs and even a little history would be fantastic.

You guys are looking for practicality which is absolutely fine, im more so just looking to chill exploring the cars a bit while i sip on my coffee before getting into a race.

I'd like to do this (and in fact I do in VR) in the pit, especially during practice. It's all part of the immersion for me as I do a run then get out for a physiological break (real or virtual). If only I could turn the damn engine off when I get out of the car......

Oh, so the wheel is displayed in photo mode is it? didnt know that, I seem to thought its not shown in replays but could be wrong, thats good to know though I will try that.

Certainly considering we now have engine size and weight balance in the UI, just litterally adding the words stick / paddle after gearbox type in the UI would be really nice, would argue its more important than those previously mentioned stats, possibly we could do with some of the key stats shown first and then a button to load up some of the extra details. Would also really like to have a year of manufacture shown too, more useful for historic cars, but certainly seeing as Reiza make a big point of creating historic tracks it would be nice to know which cars and tracks match up.

Can't you map the ignition button and press that to turn off your car?

Yes the virtual wheel is there in replay and photo mode buy in photo mode only from the exterior shots, enough for me to see what wheel is being used.
Agree with all of your post. Imo it's easily more important to know shifter and whee type than displacement or wheel base.

In an ideal world your suggestion would be a good workaround but sadly no, its not possible because as soon as you access any menu/monitor/setup the engine is defaulted to running.
The idea is to only turn on the engine when you are ready to leave the pits. Sadly at the moment that cannot be done and so you could be sat there for 20 mins in a practice session or qualifying with the engine running. It's kind of immersion breaking. Technically its no big deal but in terms of the experience as a whole, it detracts from it.
If we drill a bit deeper the issue really begins when returning to the pits or loading in to the garage on game start. In the case of the former the only method is via a menu. This is poor compared to for example the codies F1 franchise with its animation of driving back into the box with engineers then pushing the car back in to the garage. Note the engine turning off at that point. Without getting in to the discussion of variable wheelbase cars and animations, this would be the most immersive solution. In AMS2 when you go into the menu (an already poor option for returning to the pit) the engine is restarted and you are in a menu so ignition key mapping is no longer useful. Same re the loading in phase.
Once this is understood then one can question the purpose of the ignition key mapping within that context.

I'm terms of consequences- Insta return to pits from anywhere in the circuit in any car condition with no consequences, is currently the only method that also hides many poor driving habits. And of course it turns the engine on by default....
