hey there the stuff i am usually reading here on the forums, seems to be about realism, immersion, authenticity etc. but when i happen to hop into a well populated online lobby, they are usually setup in a way that makes me think i am playing forza automatic pitlane driving (why is that even in the game) default setup (sorta understandable) no fuel usage no tire usage no damage ghosted cars automated starts automated cooldownlaps forced interior view (???) how does any of that make sense, just wondering
Online lobbies are ususally pick up & play, you don't know the people you race with and therefore prople ususally don't take much responsibility with each other. That's not even specific to AMS2. Imagine you're trying to race online and can't qualify because somebody keeps killing your car in the pit lane. The immersive and realistic online experience is usually relegated to leagues and private servers where the admins have a certain amount of oversight.
I know when I’ve set up lobbies before I’ve very much kept in mind what may draw more people into the lobby, probably as when I get to play there aren’t a huge number of people playing. I’ll usually keep tyres on authentic but switch fuel usage off for example, the reason being, depending on the circuit, I’ll set it up for 5-7 laps maximum otherwise too many laps seems to put people off. I agree with @Gevatter that leagues and dedicated servers are the only likely places for more realistic races, qualifying and even practice. Believe me, after some of my experiences I wish I could get involved with something that is remotely realistic…..remotely sane would do for a start
while i can understand having things like damage off, i just dont understand why people would want the automatic driving stuff. i mean the cars in the pits are ghosted anyways, so there wont be much issues with that, and driving out of the pits isnt that hard either. just makes me wonder what game i am actually playing right now also i dont seem to really understand why all the realism is turned off but then you are forced to interior camera's (if i am playing flatscreen i usually tend to use the roof camera for more overview on my single screen) additionally i think in these shorter races tirewear should be higher not less, atleast that would show whos driving smoothly, instead of just janking the wheel to steerlock constantly to get alot of turn in in games like acc u cant even change any of these things, and the mp seems to be healthy lets just hope they wont add a server setting that turns off the steering wheel, and all u have todo is accelerate/brake aka slot-cars-mode
Probably because it's on by default and you need to discover that the settings menu can be scrolled down to even realise it can be turned off, so many people probably don't even know it can be turned off.
probably, and ontop of that, your client seems to take the settings from the last lobby you were in and apply it to the lobby you are creating.... what a flawed system
It's also not super obvious that "Force manual pitstops: YES" is the setting that disables the car driving out of the garage automatically. I mean -- you're just driving out of the garage, you haven't even pitted yet...
The game is called AUTOmobilista, you know? Seriously tough, the very few times I played online I setup my own lobby, realistic aids, manual transmission, real fuel/tyre wear, realistic damage, manual starts, etc, race length between 10-15 minutes, pick one of the open-wheel classes. It takes a while until you get a decent number of players but in my experience creating your own lobby is the best chance you have of doing a proper race online, forcing realistic aids, manual transmission, and realistic damage seems to keep the rammers out.
automatic pitlane driving (why is that even in the game) ghosted cars The two most important points for me and I believe shouldn't be available in online mode at least. Automatic pitlane from the garage is bad mainly for DD users .... an easy way for one to get an injury if the wheel is in the wrong direction and tries to rotate back. I've had my wheel rotate back in full force coming out the garage, almost broke my wrist. Also, pit limiter use should be a standard and realistic habit, I never know when it's going to be an auto pit exit. Ghosted cars breed bad habits and sometimes people might think it's enabled when it's actually off, plus I've also had contact in races that had ghosted cars online. Real-life Race habits need to be simulated too.
i agree with the ghosted cars, aspecially "unintentional lapped cars" (aka they are a lap down right when the race starts), will be ghosted for you, but on their screen they arent ghosted, so when u drive through them, they think u rammed them on purpose. in qualy the lapped cars are mega inconsistant and sometimes u see cars being ghosted, and when theres someone who is actually blocking you, u drive into him ??? ontop of everything, the way the ghosted cars look is really offputting aspecially in VR cant speak much about the DD stuff, but its annoying if u want to jump in the car and have to wait another 20sec to watch it drive itself
