i did a bit of tinkering with LiveTrack last night, and wondered if the online server ever updates the clients livetrack.

obviously it changes the state when switching sessions, but lets say it rained in the first few minutes of the qualy, and you happen to join the server after it stopped raining, drylines have already formed for people playing.

will the server tell you about those patches being dry or will you just get the same state of the track as it was at the beginning of the session.

my main question is, if the server sets a state at the beginning and then everything else is changed by the client or if the server ever keeps u updated.

looking at the huge amount of livetrack-patches per track, i would be suprised if the server would actually update that.

additionally i am wondering how the livetrack updating works, is it just a position + rotation calculation to know where the tires are or is there more indepth information from each client, that 'says' something like 'hey my tire is touching these patches right now with X friction, to correctly calculate the temp-gain/loss.

this could be interesting due to the skidmarks often not even showing for other cars, so i wonder if the livetrack is even being accurately updated (if only done by each client individually), ontop this could create a desync effect, where every player could have a slightly different livetrack

I recall there being complaints about a year ago that sometimes the Livetrack in MP would get de-synced between players, so some people would have a wet track while others would have a dry track. Possibly connected to this, it would sometimes happen that at the start of the race some people would get an extremely slippery track while others would have no issues with grip.

I haven't experienced either of these in a long time, so it's possible the issue got fixed.

this sounds more of an issue with setting the initial state, my question is mainly around what happens after this initial state has been set
