Hi all I know I might be preaching to the converted but I have to get this off my chest. AMS2 has great rwd front engined car physics. I also own AC and PC2, I play AMS2 and AC mainly so won't talk about PC2. In AC with the same car and track, a high powered rwd front engined car like the BMW M1 Procar or the BMW 2002 just does not handle like they do irl. OK i've never driven irl these cars but back in the day I owned several 300-400bhp rwd front engine cars like a 911 (OK rear engined lol), Sierra Cosworths, 300ZX Twin Turbo, Skyline GTR's (OK this is not purely rwd but it handles like a rwd car with most power going to the rear wheels 90% of the time) and I often drove them with the back end hanging out, I also did a trackday in the 1 of the Sierra Cosworths, so I do know how they handle at the limit. This is how they handled: You'd have to be doing some seriously stupid speed into a corner for understeer, and oversteer out of a corner was easily controllable. To correct oversteer on corner exit you'd just need to turn into the opposite direction of the oversteer (to a lesser or greater degree), and lift off the accelerator pedal. Yes lift off, I'm not on about drifting around a corner where you keep the power on, i'm talking about correcting oversteer. In AMS2 this is modelled beautifully in the couple of cars of tried, the BMW M1 Procar and 2002. As I said with the same car/track in AC it understeers where you wouldn't expect it to, and when it oversteers and you try to correct it it sends you into a oversteer in the opposite direction much too easily. Trust me, irl is not like this. I like AC for its mods, its great being able to drive cars i've owned irl, but the physics of rwd front engined cars is just nowhere near as fun as AMS2 (oversteering 300+bhp cars back in the day irl was FUN lol) or as realistic. Or maybe my reactions are just too slow for AC but I doubt this. I feel better now I've had my rant. Does anyone agree or disagree or would like to rant also. Btw i'm quite new to AMS2 but its my new fave racing sim, I play in VR with a Varjo Aero and its stunning, inarguably the best looking racer in VR.
This is pretty much my experience (exaggerated understeer into tankslapper) and the reason I don't spend much time on AC any more.
Keep i mind that both those cars are not stock content in AC, and mods could be whatever. Better to stick to content that is original to both games if you want to do any comparisons, for cars and tracks. I also wouldn't call the BMW 2002 high powered with its 170(?) hp, but driving similar cars in AC, like the Alfa GTA or the Ford Escort 1600 RS, I get the same general behaviour in both games. Some initial understeer when entering the corner, and then a loose rear end out of the corner under throttle. I like AMS2 more for the way the FFB feels, but the behavior is very similar between the two sims.
ok thx i've learnt something "tankslapper", this is the word i was searching for, thank you. Good point about sticking to original content, you never know what you're getting with mods. IIRC the 2002 in AC is 170bhp, in AMS2 it's 197bhp. I have tried the AC Kunos E30 M3 and didn't like how it handled. Edit: which leads me to this question: what rwd front engined cars do AC and AMS2 have in common (must be non mods)? I would like to compare them. Preferably roughly in the 200-500 bhp range, about 1000 kg or above.
The Mercedes AMG GT3 No really, it's the only one. Both the BMW E30M3 and the Mercedes 190 Evo are similar, but not exactly the same, because the AMS2 cars are 1991 season while the AC cars are 1992 season which leads to differences in power and gearboxes.
I bought AC several years ago and also felt the cars, whatever architecture FWD/RFW/front/rear engine, to be too much understeery for my taste but yes the M3s in particular were awful to drive then came the v10 tire model around 2016 I think and my whole AC world changed. Adding gyro effect and then extended physics that CM brought in in the last 2yrs, I can tell that I enjoy the Kunos cars and quite a lot of the mods I have installed If you talk about RWD front mounted engine then give the Z4 GT3 a go.I know its not in AMS2 but I love driving this car and so is the AMG GT3. and with that one, you can actually do apple to apple comparison between the 2 Sims my 2p
OK so I tried the the Kunos cars Gevatter and Nolive721 suggested and the handling was better than I expected but still not as good, imo, as the AMS2 versions. But it was much closer than using mod cars....lesson learnt (do not judge a sim based on mod cars).
Yeh i should've said don't judge on a sim based on mods of unknown quality. I have no idea if they're high quality or not. Need to try out more mod cars.
Played the cars in common each sim has this morning for an hour, and i still stand by my wall of text 1st post, AMS2 models oversteer better, or more like what i've experienced irl.
