Has there been any indication as to what the Career mode will look like? I get that there have been major world issues causing production delays. I'm not complaining. But, there aren't any good career mode options in Sim Racing and I've seen Reiza devs post that they intended to create one that was true to the sport or something... So, can we have some info? Not release date stuff... but like, what is it? Is it a ladder like in AC or PC2? Something more RPG like Codemasters F1? Or nonsense like ACC? PC2 career mode could have been so amazing with the content that game had... but the scripting ruined it... anyway. Would be cool to get an update on what the intention is with that game mode.

I wouldn't expect too much from career mode.
I only hope it will not be a complete rubbish crap as in ACC.

It will come, but it will be one of the last features added to the game. According to Reiza it will be worth the wait!

I'm not going to be overly optimistic, but Reiza are certainly not underselling their ambitions for the career mode - i.e. from the Steam page: "The endgame for Automobilista 2 is the most comprehensive and true-to-life career mode ever designed for a racing game, connecting the game's incredibly vast and ever-growing ensemble of Cars and Tracks into a cohesive journey across several decades of motorsports."

A lot can be said about Codemasters' racing games from the last 25 years, but one can't say that they cut corners when it comes to their career modes. And the quote compares the career to any racing game ever designed, which includes some triple-A titles for console as well. That is setting the bar very high, and some tough footsteps for AMS2 to follow!

I'm dreaming of a historic F1 career mode where one starts out in a 1950's F1 car the first season and ends the last season in a modern F1 car. :)

What will likely be part of the career is some sort of "follow the career of this famous Brazilian racing driver", e.g. Fittipaldi/Senna/Baricello, especially likely since a lot of the current and planned content is suited for this type of scenario.

My two-cents on it - I think from the direction things seem to be going with detailed customisable AI drivers and the range of content, there is great potential to have a genuinely interesting 'sandbox-style' career mode. By that I mean a dynamic world where all 'non-player' series are simulated in the background, with stuff going on beyond your personal influence (drivers improving, aging, switching teams/series, new teams, schedules changing, etc) - creating different, non-linear opportunities for your career each time - without the need for scripting or pre-defined paths.

The range of historical content means you could allow the player to start at any point in time and only the 'current' series would be available, with e.g. F1 switching from one generation to the next every few years.

I'm sure this can be filed under 'wishful thinking' - but I think it's a plausible approach and one that would be genuinely interesting/unique.

I suspect it will be very similiar to the pc2 career mode. All of the planned content needs to be avaliable for career mode to work though, and this means that career probs wont be a thing before 2023

Lets see, I'm more optimistic, but I'm completely agreeing with you that the career is something after a lot of other things are finished, so 2023 is quite realistic, even 2024 with fine-tuning and additional features.
The past shows that Reiza has access to core components of the engine, UI, and gameplay elements (such as the custom championship, which I count as a testing part of a future career mode). Everything is possible, just now :) I still think the two things to be managed are:
    1. calibration, it's very immersion braking to adjust difficulty sliders during the career, if it's not related to your own progression
    2. Optionality --> There are so many tastes around how a racing simulator is received, in my opinion it is mandatory to configure a career to the personal taste (interview on or off?, etc...)

I think there are elements of the structure/framework of the PC2 career that they might possibly use as a basis - but I do hope they take an ambitious, open-ended approach to it. I.e. concentrate on making the mechanics of the mode, with maybe a few out of the box career 'templates' to showcase it - but then let people do what they want with it (in the same spirit as the custom championships, livery overrides, custom AI, etc). I.e. as configurable and open as possible.

One such template could logically be a young Brazilian kid starting out in karts in the '70s - which could be really nice, but not much of a leap from the PC2 style. I'd suggest the way to appeal to the widest audience and varied tastes might be to create a mode that lets you configure any sort of career starting point - i.e. pick a year, pick a starting series, your age, country, etc, configure all the usual game/race options - start and see how it unfolds.

    I'm fine with 2023! :)

starting your career at 1950 (17 y.o.) and ending it in 2022 (90 y.o.) not sounding like "true-to-life" (sic) to me :p
except if it includes a zombie mode which would be indeed unique and never seen to any racing title so far LOL :D

The PC2 approach would be a good start though. Especially with the AI improvements from AMS2. You could start in karts and the top drivers could progress with you to the next step of the ladder while the bottom drivers fall off. That combined with one-off events and hotlap challenges would be a good start and can probably happen this year, with further career improvements coming later.

They just need to make sure that the AI is affected by rain and puddles (and overall AI strength is fairly consistent). Add trophies and we'll have lots of happy racers.
