Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum, I hope here's the right place to ask First of all, before I begin : this racing sim it's just amazing. Absolutely beautiful, not only the graphics ( 4k, 55 inches, RTX 3090 - everything on Ultra) but the way it feels when I drive. Visuals, graphics, are important too, but the realism is more important, I'd say. I purchased from Steam, the version Automobilista 2 + 2020 - 2022 Season Pass The only racing game I played ( I think it's a game, not a racing simulator ) was Project Cars - the first version Right now I'm using a gamepad, but I really think about purchasing a steering wheel. The problem is, I do not have space for the pedals, I already have some, for my flight simulators Would it be possible to play only with the steering wheel, automatic gears ON, and using the steering wheel buttons, for brake, reverse, look back, etc ??!! Another question : which driving settings would you recommend for a beginner? I tried some different cars, it's very hard to keep the car straight, especially when I brake before entering a curve Thank you very much, in advance
You would better be off to use the flight pedals for throttle and brakes, not button. The brake in particular is a delicate input device of high importance. I would also not use auto gear and driving helps at all, those don't teach you very well, and auto gear often does not shift in the optimal torque range. I also came initially from Flight Sims (FSX, DCS, IL-2) and started with a Saitek HOTAS, worked well for a while but nothing beats a full cockpit with 3 pedals, a decent FFB Wheel and H-shifter, particualry when you already a seasoned car driver RL. The H-shifter is a must for me since I prefer cars from the time prior to 2000. I ditched all Flight sims since 2019.
I don't know if I can use the flight simulator pedals, for brake and throttle ( MFG Crosswind ) but I'll try it. I don't want to replace them, especially now, when F15E is coming for DCS, and the Falkland map, and... many more good stuff I need to find a way to drive with a steering wheel Thank you
Simply Assign the toe brakes for trottle and brake, that worked a long tiime for me. The flight yoke was sufficient as a wheel. On the other hand, the investment into a trustmater T300RS GT will never be a wrong step. My desk is large enoug to accomodate both setups side by side. All that I need to move is the monitor and the chair.
Okay, thanks, I'll try Which steering wheel would you recommend ? Do I need to pay attention for some specs, like FFB, etc? Thank you, again.
I only have expertise with the Logitech series G-920 and G-29 and Thrustmaster T300. Since the price differnce is ot tha much I would always opt for the thrustmaster, because its a wheelbase eco-sytem with interchangable components (Shifter, Wheelrims, Pedals) also the FFB is way better programmed compared fpr the Thrustmaster bases compared to logitech. It fels less clunky and mechanical, also due to the belt driven nature.
I have small kids, and they cannot reach the pedals, so when they play they use the analog paddles on my Fanatec wheels as brake and throttle. Analog paddles give a lot more control than simple buttons, but the cost is higher than a Logitech or Thrustmaster wheel. The least expensive (new) Fanatec option with analog paddles seems to be the CSL DD wheelbase + the McLaren GT3 wheel, but that will set you back around €550.-
Thank you so much for your help, guys So, if I buy the CSL DD wheelbase + McLaren GT 3 wheel, can I use the paddles, for throttle + brake ?
Yes From the wheel's manual: A less expensive solution is to find a second hand CSW or CSL wheelbase and GT3 wheel, but the CSL DD seems to be quite good value.
Thank you so much The price is okay, I'd say ( wheelbase + steering wheel ) Do I need to buy something for the mount desk, too ?
Yes, if you are going to clamp the wheelbase to a desk you need this: CSL DD Table Clamp I have a dedicated rig, so I have no idea how good this clamp works... And this is PC only, but I gathered from your initial post that that is what you are using?
Yes, PC One last question, before I order it : when I navigate through the menu, can I use all those steering wheel buttons ? Thank you, again. LE : Are the shifters, loud ? I'd pay a bit more, if needed, to avoid this Are there other steering wheels with analog paddles?
Not sure I understand the question? Personally I think he exaggerates the noise a bit... There are other wheels with analog paddles, but they are more expensive: You have the various Podium Porsche variants for €650.- Podium Steering Wheel Porsche 911 GT3 R Suede And the ClubSport formula wheel upgraded with the Advanded Paddle Module, total €570.- ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5 Podium Advanced Paddle Module I have all three, so I can put together a video later today comparing the sounds if you want
Which one do you like, mostly? What about the sizes between the Clubsport and McLaren GT 3 V2 ?? I'll have to decide between the two. Thank you very much
I like them all I prefer to use the wheel that best matches the car I'm driving, so I have no clear favorite. But if I only could keep one, I would keep the McLaren wheel as that is the best all-rounder. Round wheels doesn't work for formula cars for me, and the Formula wheel is to small for anything other than formula cars, again in my opinion. Here's a video comparing the shifter sounds: I'm not sure why the Porsche is less loud than the Formula wheel, it is the same shifter mechanism (Advanved Paddle Module) so in theory they should sound the same...
Thank you so much for the video McLaren GT 3 sound louder than the F1 I'm a bit confused. Is your F1, this one?? clubsport formula v2 - Google Search Why is the F1 too small, other than the formula cars? A wheel is a wheel
The McLaren is the loudest, the Porsche the most quiet. McLaren in the middle, but closer to the Porsche sound wise. My F1 wheel is from the Podium DD1 Playstation-compatible bundle, with som custom buttons. All the F1 wheels with the Advanced Paddle Module are basically the same, just different colors and grip materials. I think the diameter of the F1 wheel is to small for other types of cars, it has a smaller diameter than the Porsche and McLaren wheels. But that is personal preference.
