Can't run SimHub and Crew Chief together - UDP?

Hi, has anyone managed to get SimHub and CC running together? No issues with this in the other sims, but from what I've read the PC2 engine has/had issues sharing data with more than one app (UDP issue).

I know that CC changed the app to Read Only for the shared file, so have tried the experimental UDP forwarding setting in SimHub but that's not working; the session 'disconnects' after about 20 seconds.

Am I missing something, or is there any other method to get the two apps running off of UDP?

Use simhub for my shakers and crew chief together, been doing it for a couple of years and no issues here

Hi Aussie, when you get the chance, could you confirm your 'System' settings, so
    Shared Memory
    UDP Frequency
    UDP Protocol

Also, did you do anything funky with the apps' configs, or just download and install?

You shouldn't have UDP telemetry on unless you need it to directly send telemetry to other devices on the network. Since this doesn't seem to be the case with SimHub and CC, you can disable it and rely only on Shared Memory. Besides, UDP telemetry has been known to cause networking issues by overloading network cards or routers if the value is higher than the bottleneck can take.

However, it's still strange that you're struggling to run both programs at the same time since all they do is readily available data in the memory. I suggest reinstalling CC and SimHub to see if it helps.

To my shame, I should have know that UDP wouldn't be needed locally, not that I work with networks or anything...but it was late!

I'll purge and re-install them both later but Isuspect it may have been a hardware issue; the cheap Noobsound amp blew up shortly before I went ot bed; suspect this was the issue

I use SimRacingStudio2.0, SimHub and CrewChief all at the same time, all working. Shared Mem: On / P-Cars2, UDP: Off.

Ok and does your motion rig get the UDP info from the software on the PC or directly from the game?

I see. What if you set UDP frequency higher? 3 has a higher refresh than 6 to 9. When I ran it, it was at 6. I know you want as many refreshes as possible but as you experienced, your network couldn’t handle 3, so you’ll need to increase the value until the network can cope.

All is well now. I purged SimHub and re-installed, attached the new amp and both apps are working at the same time.

Rather than tell you a joke about UDP (I wouldn't know if you got it), I think the issue was caused by either a messed up setting in SH, or the amp being on the verge of dying.

Thanks for the input guys, appreciated.

You only need UDP ingame of you’re sending ingame telemetry directly to another device. If another device receives data through SimHub or other software, you also don’t need UDP since the middleman software on your PC is normally reading telemetry from shared memory (exceptions may apply depending on software) and then relaying it over the network.

I don’t know how your shakers work. If it’s Simhub that controls them, no need for UDP telemetry. Fanalab doesn’t need it at all either.

Also avoid UDP a much as possible, this Will flood your LAN and can cause lag on MP session. So if you don't need it, keep it off

Okay, yes simhub controls the shakers, would I get any benefit from turning UDP off then?

Mainly guarantee no UDP related network issues and free a bit of CPU ^^
