    Thx for your workout. Funny I did the same last night with a silver shape to fiddle out silver-chrome (works perfect for me), silver-metallic (didn t catch it), silver-aluminium (didn t catch it)

    Are your %-values the grey-scale? Means 100% is black?

    So what I haven t achieve is „Chrome“+ glossy or „Matte“+glossy

    Percentage means grayscale.

    What I don't remember is if 100% means black or white, but that's easy to discover.

    I made an image with stripes running through the livery, each stripe with a gray level ranging from black to white in the specular map RGB channel.

    Another test I made for study reasons is to make the RGB channel a solid grayscale color and puts the various stripes in the alpha channel of the specular map, the alpha channel changes the glossiness of the surface, but as I said, it doesn't blur the environment reflections, what makes impossible to achieve a matte surface only by doing it.

    I remembered another nice effect that is not explored yet in the liveries... Try coloring the specular map (RGB channel), it will make the specular highlights have some color different from white. It can get pretty crazy depending on the colors used! :)

    ---

    Another info that is missing is that the standard car paint material have the fresnel value 0.67 in material file, that means that if we want to mess with the fresnel map, its 67% brightness to get the vanilla fresnel value.
    *Cant confirm right now if its 67% white or black, I'm away from PC, but as the specular, its easy to test it.

    In the template downloads, the F-USA Gen 1 - Lola T95 link is the Reynard template and the Reynard link itself does not work!

    on fresnel full black [100%] is full chrome, so I think grey scale per % is =100-your%. My aim tonight: try to reproduce a aluminium ans metallic-look livery for my Pfaff Daytona winning Porsche

    @Xela1 If I remember correctly matte material can work with metallic or standard paint, but to achieve this without modding you have to find a car that already has these skin combo.
    And I think we don't have a car in the game that has aluminum (matte metallic) and metallic paint in the same livery.

    Here is a question for those that might know. Hopefully there may be a definitive answer. I have Livery Overrides for most classes. Most of the time they all show correctly on track, BUT, sometimes there will be completely red cars in the place of an override. Does anyone know why this happens and if there is a solution? Thanks guys.

    Red cars are usually a sign of something wrong in the override XML files. Either because of changes by Reiza, or by a user error when creating the files.

    @Rob Thompson „shader-man“ maybe we ll get an additional „metallic“-shader. I can t figure out a mere metallic skin, seems a mix of „matte“ and „chrome“ we can not generate atm. Thx and not to forget to raise the livery numbers per GT class :cool:

    Trouble with that theory is, it may not load all liveries, so I exit out the track, not the game, reload the track, and, voila, all liveries working. I would have thought if it was a fault in the file etc, it would do it every time. Oh well, I will just persevere. Thanks for the reply.

    A dull red paint is the default livery for every override definition. If users file is faulty or can't be found, then AMS2 shows this default livery.
    It must be an initialisation error, when reading in the override xmls ( only done once at gamestart )
    Or a timing problem, when loading.
    IMHO a bug

    Nice livery!
    There are some issues when we crank the fresnel and mess with specular maps.
    See the harsh dark lines in the curves and chamfers?
    Aside from fresnel controlled maps, in the material file can be defined a metallic effect that makes the surface behave like a metal.
    These two parameters live in materials of cars that have a metallic colored paint:

    <shaderparam name="metallicColour" type="EPT_VEC4">
    <value v="0.05 0.05 0.05 1" />
    </shaderparam>
    <shaderparam name="metallicPower" type="EPT_F32">
    <value v="20" />
    </shaderparam>

    This color and power are what really make a material appear metallic, but these parameters aren't exposed to the end user to tweak yet.

    I am sure this has been asked. What should you do if you dont want to permanently overwrite the existing liveries forever?

    The "override" in texture override just means that the game loads a different livery at startup, not that the livery is deleted. The liveries overridden will still exist, they just won't be accessible as long as the appropriate .xml file points to another one.

    If you want the old liveries, edit or delete the .xml file in question.
