I’ve spent most of the last year in ACC with
a 49” curved monitor. All happy.

I picked my valve index back up and jumped in to what I’ve known and read to be one of the best games in VR (AMS2) to be plagued by micro stutters and dropped frames.

i can confirm this doesn’t happen in AC, ACC, RF2 or R3E.

I’ve stripped everything off. All services and removed all applications not needed. I’ve unplugged all devices not needed leaving only my valve index and DD2 plugged in. I’ve changed USB ports too but still dropped frames and micro stutters during the first few corners. I’ve deleted the entire game folder and re-downloaded. Ive deleted my documents folders. I’ve reset steam settings and nvidia control panel settings. I’ve uninstalled the latest nvidia driver and used one from May 22 and same isssue. I’ve uninstalled Steam and SteamVR. Same issue.

Tonight I reinstalled the entire OS (W10), installed steam again and Fanatec control panel and still the exact same issue.

All other games are solid apart from AMS2.

is there anyone that has the answer to this? I am stumped. And at a loss.

It’s either a quirk in the game and I shouldn’t be alone, or it’s a hardware issue. Which leads me to a PSU issue or GPU.

There are no overclocks or under volts involved here. Not even XMP profiles on the RAM.

    Please help Obi-wan.

    Try disabling shared memory in-game

UDP is giving some trouble not sharememory. ( At least bases on my expérience)

If the micro Shutter is a constant issue it could the root cause.

If it happend randomly 2-3-5 Time in a session then this is the game itself( especially on RKD session.. happend also less under UNRKD, local and Time trial). Everyone complain about it. We hope all a fix to come.

Publishing game data and telemetry for third app like Wheel FFB, simhub, Crewchief, ect...

UDP is the same data but broadcasted over IP... Simfeedback for SFX-100 motion as example is reading the data There.

Sharememory method is more clean and efficient

Hey all, thanks for the replies. Confirmed shared memory is set to No and UDP frequency is set to Off in the game.

Is there anything else that can be causing this>?

Mine ran much better after going into the bios & turning XMP to 1 ( instead of 2 which is extreme memory timing ) , I also toned down a few other settings I’d ramped up

    try default bios
Or if you’ve set things differently try timing back a tad

No, doesn't happen on monitor. There's no visible stutters for sure.

Ok will try again. I've just retested ACC and AC (10 lap race with 12 cars) and there's certainly no stutters or dropped frames in the headset being shown/reported with fpsVR.

So set the BIOS back to optimized defaults (minus the Armoury Crate offer), jumped in a 5-lap race with the 720s at Imola and 1 stutter/dropped frame as we came into T1 and then another halfway round. Same issue despite the car or track. I can't complete 1 lap without a stutter or 2, or several.

Based on your comments I assume FPSvr only report frame loss with AMS2 in VR.

    I managed on my side to make Working AMS2 AC but ACC.with VR. ( I5-12600k @5.1 Ghz, gtx1080ti, 16Gb Ram,.HP G2)

Is your GPU / CPU workload ok when Shutter occurs ?
I guess you tried on VR to lower graphic options in AMS2 ? MSAA and shadows impact my setup a lot.

If you turn down headset resolution in steam VR
( as a test ) to a stupidly low res does it still happen?

Yes, fpsVR only reporting dropped frames and I can visually see the stutter in AMS2 only.

Even with my best graphics settings in AMS2, the GPU frame time is lower than 9ms and the CPU frame time around 4-5ms. Everything is nice and green and then BAM! a stutter and a nice purple line on the graph to mess up my green :)

But as a test I have set all game graphics to their lowest settings and still the same issue. Stutters in turns. Maybe I should try an oval :D

Time trial have issue right now and a fix is coming as far as we know.

However you Said it happend on race... I guess it happend on test Day as well.

Is your CPU or GPU that have the purple Spike ?

At one point I had issue about transfer rate between the CPU and the GPU , It was my external sound card that was slowing down the PCIe bus...

HELMET câble issue can be ignored as it happend only with AMS2.

Yes, still stutters. Set global to 100% and the game to 50%. Talk about hazy. Didn't happen at T1 this time but halfway around the track and then another stutter coming across the line.

Yes happens in test day as well and the purple spike is on the GPU side. The only things connected to the PC are the Valve and 49" curved monitor connected to GPU, DD2 wheelbase in a USB3.0 motherboard slot and the Valve, again in a USB 3.0 motherboard slot.

However, I did have a PCIe card and have tried to connect them to that and the same issue. I've since pulled that out and is on my desk now.

I Googled Pink strike and have Read could potentially be related to Wifi connection or Steam overlay sometimes.

Are you on a physical Ethernet connection to your router ? Are Steam overlay disabled ?

Here is what the FPSvr FAQ Says :

    Frametime Graphs:
    Violet color - dropped frame(s)
Red color - frametime is more 2x than vsync (vsync is 11ms for 90Hz HMD)
Yellow color- frametime is longer than vsync
Green color - frametime is less than vsync
