Following the October dev update I have a few questions about the multiplayer mode. I never looked into the difference between the 2 options.
    - What is the difference in multi-player between P2P and dedicated servers?
    - As a multiplayer racer, what is different between the two options?
    - What is the difference for racing leagues?
    - What is the reason the racing leagues struggle with p2p?

P2P usually feels like a dysfunctional toy

A good dedicated server feels rock solid & a good experience

P2P is a great addition to any aim as it allows serverless lobbies as the player position updates are not centrally stored and no extra infrastructure is required. This heavily relies on users internet speeds, especially around packet latency. In theory it can be even quicker as there's no middleman in form of a server.
This comes at a price of risk of someone having a rather poor connection which no longer affects that single user. In server structure this would result in a single player off sync with the rest unaffected. This lack of control is a no-no from a league perspective due to that risk. In short :)

would you rather rely on one central processing point aka hte server, or would you want to rely on everyone who is racing to have decent internet and good pings?

bit of a no brainer for anything other than causual no care lobbys

Basically for ams2 both are about the same, the dedicated server ams2 has, still relies on P2P connection, only addition is that you get a results file, which registers quite some info, standings, incidents, laptimes.

P2P is great to have some quick races with your mates, but as mentioned before, is as good as its weakest link, or in this case, the person with the worst connection/highest ping affects the others in a negative way.

Be great to have a separate programme to create a dedicated server

Great answers, thanks! The differences are becoming clearer to me.
    I have another question:
Would if be enough for a dedicated server to support the option to arrange the grid, like a inverted starting grid, or penalties for certain drivers? Or does the program (AMS2, rF2,....) need an option to arrange this starting grid?

Honestly, I haven't seen any multiplayer racing game that allows me to set the grid manually before the start of the race. So my league just ends up manually doing it before the start of a race. What gets really frustrating with AMS2 is the game boots cars that aren't moving into the garage after a set timer as you are trying to have people line up manually. This is a carry over from Project Cars2. It would really be nice to be able to shut OFF that option during a race so cars aren't forced back into the garage for not moving.

yeah, the best thing to do probably is do a custom formation lap, basically use lap 1 to get everyone in position, then agree on a corner where to start racing, last cornerf or example
