I’d like to publicly apologized to @Richard Wilks for any insinuation that his mod work is nothing but top shelf. And to him and all others on this thread if your conclusions from my statements suggested that any perceived issues with the cars won’t be evaluated.

I tried to make it clear that perceived issues will be objectively evaluated in due course, implying that there is indeed a process for such things.

Personally, I respect my colleagues at Reiza and how hard they work to leave them undefended. I’ve spent a lot of time in the trenches even before joining the org responding to unreasonable attacks bayonette at the ready and with that comes some negative consequences.

In any event, I did take some time to work on some alternative setups for the 98T, MP 4/4, 4/5B and 4/6 in an attempt to make them a bit more compliant when nearing rear traction loss. They are posted on the kansai leaderboards. FYI some of them are set to 100% boost so that may need to be changed for race day.

I would like to reciprocate the gesture and apologize to @steelreserv , the team or anybody that i might have slighted, perceived or real. I never set out to discredit the work of anybody, or say that anyone was not up to the task, even if at some point the heat of the dicussion might have taken the better of me. Like i said before, i had nothing but good simracing moments from Reiza products, and i am nothing but a loyal costumer.

Hopefully all this is behind our backs, and again, it is good to hear that Reiza is on top of our concerns and listening, like they are famous for.

Is this a good time to close the thread maybe or should we talk about something else?

@steelreserv @Richard Wilks Glad to see this.
There is no emoji for shaking hands. but could be.
Thanks 27 for making some changes at this point, hope they yield some positives, and feedback that is useful.

Welp, all's well that ends well. I started playing AMS2 only about 6 months ago but have more playing time than all other steam sims combined. It may not be the most "realistic" experience to some, but in my fantasy life as a racing driver, no other sim gives me the feel, thrill and sense of satisfaction that AMS2 does even it still being an ongoing project.
The feel the modern open wheeler have of supreme downforce is second to none and the FFB is great, love feeling the bumps on the road and the difference in the tarmac and concrete in Brasilia, etc. So in my humble opinion this on going project is the one with the most potential and can become what many of the backers of PC1 wanted out of that sim. RF2 feels awesome but is so bare bones that I really see no hope in it being feature complete ever.

So I am really glad for the steam sale that gave me the curiosity to try the game that has become my favorite racing sim :D

Speaking of FFB, have the I believe 60s/70s F1 cars’ FFB levels been fixed? I had to run the multiplier at around 50z to reduce clipping. Haven't driven it since that day.

The Lotus 98T has the same tires as others Gen1 F-Classics, which in turn are very similar to the tires used by latter gens and by and large they all seem to work just fine - a lot about how well tires work however depend on aero balance in combination with suspension geometry & rates, it´s very likely that as we spend more time on the Lotus 98T we´ll find some issues in one or both areas which are throwing the car off keel, but whatever it is wasn´t noticeable in the time we had with it before release.

Living with a physics flaw that is relevant (but not a big enough showstopper to hold it back from release) until you figure it out is a longer and often frustrating road to take as it means letting issues stand while the car is already out there, but it´s the only right way to go about it and it´s how we came to fix many issues both within the physics engine itself as well as with modelling of specific cars.

Another example (although for a problem of almost opposite nature) is that of F-USA oval physics, which other members of the physics team can attest has been on my radar long before it became an Youtube topic - the thing is we could easily make cars "less drifty" or "more snappy" if we just wanted to design that in somehow, and thus make it less susceptible to obvious criticism; that however would be a hack that could prevent us from learning whatever is actually wrong with it and thus from getting to the proper solution to the problem.

Every other serious sim follows this approach and for the most part users are either happy to stick with it until issues are worked out, or even buy whatever the sim is delivering without many qualms - we had the same approach and enjoyed largely the same benefit of the doubt with AMS1 (and I remember even bigger initial release stinkers with that which went largely untroubled), but with AMS2 the amount of physics scrutinity by the community - be that due to its aknowledged issues earlier on its development, the legacy of previous titles with this engine or the shallow preconceptions recycled ad nauseum by Youtube influencers - is so absurdly excessive that every issue minor or major is blown way out of proportion, to the degree that threads like this are common occurrence with every other release. I´ve been around the block enough times already not to be as bothered about it, but at the same time I can understand why other members in the team can get a bit defensive about it as it does become a bit frustrating to have your work constantly second guessed, often times on the most elementary levels.

That´s how it is though and the seems to be little we can do at this point to change it, but we are also not going to change our approach - we´re confident of the overall quality of our ouput without being oblivious to the points that may need improving on to one degree or another.

The term "Stigma" comes to mind.

Once attached, hard to remove. If it were easy, everyone would do it. Focus on the positive potential and forge ahead, slow and steady gets the job done. ;)

Well of course, i agree, and i can say i wasnt expecting any fix to be delivered in a hurry. In fact, i would assume otherwise, that time is needed to get to the bottom of whatever is the problem, or even to determine if a problem is there, and properly test it and decide what course of action to take. I also assumed that the indy quirk was already picked up, so hence why i was not dwelling much on that one in particular, altough its always nice to hear confirmation that this is being looked into, something that i guess some users wanted to know.

Its actually good that the tires are similar, as that allows the team to isolate what is making this or that car behaving this or that way.

But with that said, of course i dont assume that i questioned anything in an elementary level, as in, the car has the wrong power, or behaves totally alien to what it should be. Thats why i just wanted to have an open, transparent discussion about it, because i am sure than me an others can keep up with the subject. But of course, i fully understand that the team wants to look at things first, or analyze things calmly before jumping to conclusions, but also, hopefully, before dismissing what me and others had to say.

    Anyways, thank you again.

Unfortunately yes, but as i am not quick to dismiss a game engine for obvious reasons, i also think one should not dismiss content of the previous games just because most of it was subpar, or not to our taste. One needs to keep an open mind in such things.

The easiest solution isn't always the best and love that you are recognising that,

I never said there was an easy solution. In fact, i never said "this is the solution".

What i said was "there is a problem, it might be because of this, or this, or this, or something else".

I would like to hear in the future about that indeed, but alas, its up to the team if they want to reveal such details.

It would be foolish to present a solution without knowing the inner works.

I didn’t talk about you. I was talking about a comment made by Renato in his statement. I just agreed with him saying fixing the issue with ovals is better than just making the cars less snappy or drifty.
(I wrote my comment when you were writing yours. Nothing meant against you)

Curious, how does Reiza test out the physics in the game? Do you drive with DD1 or DD2...do you play with motion simulator? Or do you test out with hand controller only. How does one know they got the physics down if the tools and devices to simulate the physics in testing is not properly used?

I am driving with DD1 and I can tell you that the 98T is not bad as far as physics but all the Super Cars and Hyper Cars are not right. And I am driving in VR. So there are many variables and factors that need to take into consideration when testing for physics? Perhaps playing the game with a hand controller is more forgiving than playing with DD1? Similarly playing in VR is different than playing in triple screens? I don't know...but I can tell you (based on my knowledge of the real world physics and YES, I been driving for 20+ years lol) that there are only a few cars I enjoyed in AMS2. The cars that seem to give me the correct physics when I am sitting in the driver seat are the following: GT1 Mercedes Benz, Formula V10 Gen 1 & 2, Formula 2019 & 2022 and all the Formula USA; others may be more or less forgiving. My point is...if each devices gives off different feedbacks in physics and everyone is using different devices, perhaps...that's why there are always complaints.

Where the hell are you getting all this from? Hand controller is what I use; at Reiza pretty surely no one does, otherwise controller default values wouldn't be what they are. And I'm a bit baffled by how you come to make these broad, unspecified statements while emitting that particular level of self-certainty.

Are yo saying controllers are more forgiving?
