How much does opening the radiator and brake ducts 5-10 % each affect fuel consumption, and are there other factors that could maybe affect it by a noticeable amount?

I just had an 18-lap race at Kansai GP in the McLaren GT4. I set up my fuel at the end of the 15-minute quali, and the setup page said I had 21 laps' worth of fuel (47 liters) in the car. In the race I ended up pitting for 13 liters and had 1.4 liters left at the pit entry after the cooldown lap. My fuel consumption was at 3.1 liters per lap on the one lap where I checked (after Crew Chief told me I need to refuel), which would mean 55.8 liters for a full 18 laps without a cooldown lap.

I really should start driving with a telemetry app open. Would've been interesting to compare consumption between laps and the average between quali and race.

The calculations have been fairly reliable for me in the past, although I usually overfuel a bit to avoid things like this, as evidenced by the "21" laps of fuel for an 18-lap race. This feels like an outlier. Is this the same experience for others, or is there enough inaccuracy that it should be looked at?

Edit: Looking at telemetry from a 16-lap Road America race, it looks like fuel consumption between quali and race increases by about 0.1 l / lap in the race with similar setup changes. Also, the setup screen's estimate for Road America was a lot closer to the truth. I overfueled by about 4-5 liters and it was pretty much perfect with a cooldown lap included. I think the Kansai case is just a pure miscalculation for some reason.

I guess you are reducing drag, therefore the car is reaching higher top speed, running at higher RPM and burning more fuel.

Wouldn't opening the ducts increase drag? Based on telemetry that doesn't explain the 12-liter underfuel though. The change from quali to race was +0.1 liters per lap, and that could partially come from the extra fuel weight.

Yeah - I misread your post. increasing drag would also increase fuel burn. Whether by this amount - I have no idea.

In AMS1 in every session the hud shows the amount of fuel used at the end of each lap, which is really helpful to accurately calculate how much fuel I need for the race. It would be nice if Reiza implemented that in AMS2 as an option in the hud.

Maybe you can submit a report as well cours it doesn't seem to happen with all cars and tracks
