    Good afternoon,

apologies if already asked but I have just fired up pc and it says they recommend me upgrading to windows 11. I am assuming some have already done so…..so the question is, is there any reason not to?
    Thanks in advance
    Baz

There are a few of my friends who already upgraded, who said on one hand there weren't any issues, on the other it isn't different enough to warrant early switching. Rumor has it W11 sends even more of your data to Microsoft than W10, but I can't confirm that.

I'd generally recommend against upgrading Windows just because there is a new version. As long as your current OS runs well and you're OK with it, the only reasons ever to upgrade IMO are:
    • The new OS has a feature you absolutely want
    • The old OS isn't compatible with a software you want to use
    • Microsoft stops support for the old OS

I'd like to know if anyone using Windows 11 with the auto-HDR makes AMS2 looking even better...

Buddy if you are still playing in VR, DO NOT move to windows 11!
Oculus software is not compatible with 11 and steam also struggles with 11.
VR and windows 11 do not play nice and you will have extreme performance issues or it won’t work at all.

IMO Auto HDR is a pretty significant improvement. More depth and pop to the image while still retaining a natural look. The biggest visual difference is to track surfaces & concrete structures. They no longer look washed out & flat.

The other night I ran AMS2 and immediately noticed something was off. The image looked flat & lifeless. Then I noticed Auto HDR had been disabled by mistake.

As for Windows 11 in general. It’s been smooth running for the last 3-4 months. More intuitive & snappier to use. Lots of similarities to a phone OS.

Thanks @JAGLeMans. Do you have any issues with iRacing, RRE, ACC, etc...? Do you use SimTools for Motion or SimRacing Studio for buttkickers/haptic?

Thanks for bringing up the topic of Windows 11. If your PC is telling you to upgrade, it's probably time to do it, man. I mean, why not stay up-to-date and enjoy the new features and better security, right?

I use Win 11 a long time as well.
I don't know, but since a longer time, when weather in AMS is cloudy / rainy, the performance is so bad that it is undriveable. With win 10 it was not so a big impact on performance.
It feels like there is a break or limit active.
Taking a look on system power, GPU is running on 100% but CPU runs with 15-30%.
Even with lowering settings in AMS performance keeps very low.
On sunny days there is no problem, high performance very good fps.

Or is there an issue with nVidia, don't know, but it's annoying, really.

    Are there any similar experiences?

A series of older NVIDIA drivers had an CPU usage bug that dragged down performance in a lot of games. There is also a buggy driver out with 100% GPU overload bug. Check the NVIDIA forums.
Im on "vintage" 528.49 and that one seems to be safe and had enough fixes of former problem for my purposes.

I have been using Win11 for several months. For a while, I had improvements on VR and was happy with the update, the WMR as a whole worked better on my end. But I'm now going through a bout of freezes and crashes. I'm doubtful on where the culprit lies, but last night I found a way to reproduce them a lot (offline race against a big field of AIs) so it should help me tracing the root cause. I'm suspecting it's something related to OXR, but ran out of time yesterday. Tests will continue tonight.

Plus, with Windows 11, you get auto-HDR. Even if your game doesn't natively support HDR (like AMS2), you get a nice boost in brightness/contrast/saturation if your monitor supports HDR making the game looking even more realistic. (warning: driving while the sun is setting down in HDR, is quite glaring, like in real life, love it!!)

Try a different (latest driver) and see if problem goes away.

Just go into your BIOS and turn OFF TPM, the annoying Windows 11 update will go away.

seems that there is 526.56 installed.
Any way to update with nvidia control panel or direct download?
What I see with task manager, it's on/off, 100% or 0% of GPU but just 15-30% CPU
