Well the KAOS guys actually port more AMS2 cars to PC2, than PC2 to AMS2. They don't seem as interested in AMS2 yet, let's hope that ratio changes as AMS2 gets more popular! I am also very intrigued in learning how to properly mod this game, but alas, I am past my prime for beating up my brain with studying and understanding hex files and binary numbers. No to mention work and life, so the most I dabble in is in the AI files and performance numbers when they are in layman terms, none of the technical and complicated stuff. So intrigued is as far as I will go
I took a stab at modding myself a couple months back, I did manage to get a car moved from PC2 to AMS2, but couldn't really negotiate the hex files to get stuff working properly. I tried as well to import a custom model into AMS2 as well and that was a whole other frustration because the tools you need to convert meshes to the custom file types are a mess to deal with. Hoping in time we get some better tooling, perhaps a proper template to work from and a way to better set up car physics.
Alright been a little while since an update... I've been dealing with wisdom teeth issues that have resulted in regular migraines... So lots of white screens aren't great... Neither are white skins lol.. I've spent some time honing a few things, mainly fuel and race performance... As fans of the category will note the big power of the turbos was only shown in qualy with the N/A cars usually having the top speed records in the races... 51 litres per 100 laps was the ruling back then, many cars had to save a lot of fuel during their race runs leading to much slower laptimes for those with more drag than their competition... I've also started work on helmets and driver suits as well as tidied up a few things...
Optimistically I'd say within a fortnight of the 1.5 going public... There's still about 10 car skins to add, I'm currently trying to find some good driver suit references and some helmets are really obscure... Otherwise the mod is in nice shape and close to being ready, it just depends on how big the changes are to the tyres for the 1.5 update... Updating the Sauber and 1987 Porsche will be easy... Updating the 8 other car physics models and balancing all of the low downforce variants for top speed will be time consuming... I'm also expecting such a landmark update as 1.5 to have something to change in mod builds... Maybe we lose drivers again, maybe it's all smooth, but there might be a couple of days of trouble shooting each car to figure out what is causing an error...
Scar666 well done things need time and dedication. Judging by the screenshots it will be a job that will make AMS2 take a leap forward. Heartfelt thanks for the passion you put into it
I'd like to get back into it possibly, if I manage to figure it out then I'll let you know, would love to make some mods. These inbound updates might draw in some modders with the updated physics, hopefully then we'll see some proper tooling, more documentation... hoping anyways
With Le Mans on the way might as well add the Le Mans liveries... These currently only appear at the low downforce tracks... The mod will come with an AI file that replicates the season as well as one where more cars show up at the high downforce tracks as there wasn't a full field at every race...
Speaking of that French track... Another car, one that wasn't in the championship much like the race itself... But it will hold a certain record for a long time...
It's not meant to... Only hit 388kph in qualy in 1989... This is with an untuned Nissan engine and no where near enough drag...
Now that 1.5 out is out it's time to get serious about bringing this project to the public... Those interested in helping bringing this mod to the public should contact me via PM... Those with the ability to share telemetry and work through set up changes will be really helpful as well as put long test sessions in to test the tyre wear on these cars... There's 20 physics sets to test including all the low downforce models... So all the help will be appreciated...
Just to help lower expectations... I have to wait for a patch that works with my system before I can do too anything as I can't get AMS2 to load properly at all...
Hey Scar, Don't know if it will help. But I also had Bugsplat on every startup after patch. Only solution for me was renaming Documents Automobilista 2 folder. she started right up after that.. Pain in the ass to reconfigure all your settings. Hope you get it going
Cheers for the suggestion... Thing is I have already gone through 2 full clean reinstalls where the Mydocs folders were deleted and then trashed out of the recycle bin... I took it to the next level last night and performed a Windows Registry clean of AMS2 related files and reinstalled a few drivers... No AI files, skins or mods either... Just a clean install...
