    Team Reiza,
We (RMsolo) run our weekly AMS2 league races on Wednesday nights starting at 8pm mountain time (US). And 2 weeks in a row, AMS2 has pushed a minor up update at 8:30pm mountain time causing our players to get disconnected from the server right as the race is about to start. It basically concided with us transitioning from Quali to Race.

Can we please set the time of these updates to something like 1am mountain time on a Monday? Instead of pushing these updates on a week night when people are going to be actively playing the game and hosting league races in the US?

I have to say this was massively annoying and very inconvenient as we had to have everyone do the update and rehost/restart the races. I can't remember 100% but these updates have been like workshop/library small updates I think.

    Please help team Reiza.
    Thanks!

You should be able to configure steam to not update a title either automatically or when you're playing a game.

You can imagine how ridiculous it would be if Reiza are going to have to fret about when to update the game based on whoever is playing at the time - getting some kind of community consensus - perhaps take a step back and think again?

It's a bit King Canute isn't it imagining that your visit to the beach should be uninterrupted by the tide.

Steam is already set to only do "Scheduled updates" and it's set to do it between "2am - 5am" local time. However based on what has recently happened, this seems to only apply to major patches. So unfortunately that hasn't helped. The patch I'm referring to are minor game workshop patch (tiny file size) that we apparently have no control over. Not a Steam rookie here.

I don't think asking Reiza to reschedule their pushes to another date and time is unreasonable, especially since they have never used this date and time in the past. We've been using AMS2 for MP leagues since 2020 and have never encountered this issue. However, its happened 2 weeks in a row in the middle of a race. Week nights are prime time for gaming in the US.

I'm sure Brazil's timezone is similar to the US's timezone. A little common sense, can go a long way with the community. Especially since there are probably large US/European/South American player bases. If this update needs to be done during a weeknight, it might not hurt if they scheduled this a little later. If this was scheduled at midnight on weekday US mountain time, I think it would probably cause the least amount of disruption to the community.

I'm not sure what tools Reiza have to control patches being pushed out through Steam. Perhaps it can be done at a certain time/day based on the region. Or maybe it's not that granular and they have to pick a day/time where it is auto scheduled for everyone in the globe.

If done at midnight US mountain time it would be the following times in different timezones.
    12am US mountain
    3pm Tokyo
    7am Uk
    8am Berlin
    5pm Sydney
If done on a Monday, at the suggested time, most folks would probably be asleep or working.

I think you're probably confusing the "updates" that happen whenever you close the game which aren't actually updates at all.

I'm not even sure what you're referring to. When you close a game, it just goes back to Steam and your desktop. There is nothing to confuse.

The updates I'm talking about show up in Steam downloads as AMS2 updates and if you look at the description, it usually says steam workshop library updates for AMS2. A lot of different titles get these workshop library updates from time to time. They are game specific.

Just to be clear, this is an ask to Reiza from a long time AMS2 community member. I doubt the rest of the community can do anything about this issue. My hope is they manage to read this message and hopefully do something about it.

When you close the game there's an update in steam downloads. In the multiplayer case I believe its a workshop update.

This isn't an actual update and has to do with steam cloud. I believe in the multiplayer case that has something to do with the MP ranking.

So imagine a few of your buddies don't realise this, the game exits for some other reason - perhaps a bug or whatever, and they see this download and blame Reiza and you all get " massively annoyed" and demand they update the game to suit you.

But, as I say, I don't think the game is being updated at all.

    Relax. There is no issue.

In the case of AMS2 that is the Steam Cloud Sync that runs after every time you play the game and will be there, in the downloads, with the little exclamation mark that says "Steam Workshop". This screenshot is from right now. I started the game for less than a minute just to make it. I'm in the Berlin/Vienna time zone.

Even if Reiza push an update, Steam doesn't update a game that is currently running, because it cannot access files that are in use. Besides, the last update to the release version was some time in August or early September.

Thanks, that helps clarifies the minor workshop update we all see under downloads. So it means the server is probably crashing due to a bug of some sort. Well that's a bummer.
