Hi everyone, I just got the GRID 911 RSR wheel (which btw is pretty amazing ) and I have set it up across all my sims. I’m ALMOST set with AMS2 as well but I’m hitting a snag trying to get the shifter paddles to get recognized in game (they are recognized on the settings dialog). I have a Fanatec DD1 wheel base and the way this wheel works is through USB - so I have to connect it to the base using the podium hub in order to get the FFB to be recognized; and a separate USB connection in order to map all buttons and shifter paddles. In AMS2, I have my wheel settings set to wheel / Fanatec DD1 w/ Formula V2, and separate wheel/pedals - setting it to any other value like Custom, or generic DD, does not work as the wheel base doesn't get recognized In my Fanatec settings, I have the wheel set to support CSW compatibility mode ON, and the mapping of shifters to paddles OFF - changing those options haven’t worked either Fanatec drivers are up to date, as well as AMS2 When mapping the controls, AMS2 does recognize when I press each shifter and successfully maps it to the Shift up and down options. But when I’m in game, none of the shifters are recognized; the other buttons work fine, and the wheel itself turns. So I’m wondering if there is a disconnect between AMS2 and the Fanatec driver? Feels like mapping of shifter to paddles from the Fanatec DD1 driver is being enforced, even though I have turned it off. And the weirdest thing is that these exact settings are working fine in every other sim I use (ACC, rFactor2). Any ideas? Appreciate the help!
Yes, but the wheel base doesn’t get recognized if I try that option. The only options that allow me to recognize and calibrate the base are the Fanatec DD1 ones - but then I’m stuck without getting the shifters recognized Thanks for the idea, though.
Have you tried using something like joy2key? If that recognises your shifter inputs you can map them to keyboard buttons and then may those keyboard buttons to shifter in ams2 instead.
I have a DD1 base, and have it set to Custom with a USB wheel. Works perfectly, so something might be off with your settings? I can take a look at my settings later today, to see exactly how it's set up.
That would be helpful, really appreciate it! When I set it to custom, I’m unable to calibrate the base - I get an error saying that I have not completed configuring the device, and it won’t let me get past that error - it just gives me an OK button and sends me back.
I’m using SimHub’s control mapper with vJoy as I have multiple wheels, and I can verify there that the buttons are being recognized as I press them. AMS2 is also able to map the correct buttons to the shifters in the settings. The problem is just in game - it just ignores any shifter inputs while working fine with the rest of the wheel buttons. And this seems to be on AMS2 only - all other sims I have tested (ACC and rFactor2) recognize the inputs. That’s what makes me think there must be something weird going on between AMS2 and the Fanatec driver.
I think you have to map at least the left/right steering axis before you can calibrate. When you select custom nothing is mapped, and all mapping must be done manually. And mapping the steering can be a major pain...
If you still cant get the game to acknowledge your wheel fully then here is a solution that can help. When I recently reinstalled the game because 1.5 "update" made it almost too goofy to try to drive the game/control the odd physics of the cars - then I couldnt get the game to acknowledge my wheel. Please connect a wheel or something was messaged to me. Restart or trying to calibrate or map the wheel didnt help - at all. But then I copied the former default.controllersettings.v1.03.sav back in. Tjub. Now the game was suddenly able to "see" the wheel again. ByTheWay: Your "only" problem is to get a controller file fitting your wheel.
Just closing the loop on this one, just in case anyone find themselves in the same situation as me. @torsteinvh was spot on - switching to Custom and setting the steer left / right assignments before calibrating the wheel was the missing link - however, doing so was much more complicated than I though as the left/right inputs on the wheel were either not being recognized at all, or were producing a "multiple inputs detected" error which I had no idea what to do about.... ... until I stumbled across this post from @Gevatter : ... and that was it! After that, I was able to assign the shifter up/down buttons to my third-party wheel and, most importantly, I managed to get them recognized in game. Whooohoo.... EDIT: and I’ll follow @BrunoB advice and copy those settings so next time I move between betas and main release, I don’t have to deal with this again. Thanks everyone for all the help!
Hmm, I thought about upgrading my good old Logitech G27 to a Fanatec wheel (CSL DD or Clubsport DD) but when I read this post I‘m not sure anymore. Thought Fanatec is a common brand and would be recognised and plug&play but it seems to be more complicated… The different shifters confuse me as well. There are static shifters for rally but also wheels with shifters attached to the wheel (like on my G27). Can you use both with Fanatec or do you have to disassemble and rebuild the wheel each time you need another setup (rally/drifting vs racing)?
