Do you recommend an AMS2 graphics setup in VR with an RTX 4080 and HP Reverb G2? In particular MSAA or POST AA Thank you
Id recommend checking this thread probably: Shadow anti-aliasing - best options to improve AA? and this one: OpenComposite OpenXR
I played around a lot with settings. MSAA medium is best. Shadows on ultra. (these two are mandatory for me) You should be able to run everything else on high. Then adjust resolution in Steam VR as high as you can go. Using FPSVR, I like to run about 80% GPU capacity which usually gives stutter free performance. If you can handle it, try setting WMR to 60hz, you'll gain a lot of headroom
A quick and dirty method is to do the settings in 2D with v-sync off and aim for whatever gives you 300fps. This should generally give you a steady 90fps in VR (although you will probably need to remember your settings and do it manually in VR as it's two different graphics configs).
I Interesting approach here now that I found a way to improve performance on my QUEST2 with the help of vrperfkit I am going to look at graphics settings one shocking thing for me is the aliasing showing on back of cars in night or rain conditions that’s really painful to see so I need to find an antialiasing solution assuming it can be fixed and it’s not a madness engine issue
Well that’s not good I also play on a 4K tv with all graphics maxed out and didn’t really notice Maybe I didn’t pay as much attention so I will check tonight it would be weird if that happens in VR mode only no?
Back in the pC1 days i was playing on a 40" 4k screen and it had the problem then at that PPI, also on my 1080p triples its there and now at 3500x3450 on my Reverb G2 its still an issue. I don't play at night for this reason. You can go back and look at my old thread about this very issue. Anti aliasing I made this before AMS2 came out hoping the issue would be resolved. Sadly not.
ok I just did several runs at night and then in rain conditions. Both with Reiza official cars and also mods. Again, when I play in 4K, all graphics settings are cranked up to max with MSAA set to high. I can report that the aliasing I could see in VR being very pronounced for example on the rear spoilers of cars I am following is not present here at 4K My daughter is using the Q2 right now for some Beatsaber but hopefully I can catch it before the End of my Japanese evening to do some more testing in VR conditions
so far it’s also my assessment as well My combo 5800x3D and rtx3080 12gb allows me to run any tracks and weather conditions between 80 and 120fps on my 4K panel so I can not complain the 5800x3d is really a beast for keeping the 1% low at pretty high level no stuttering feel at all on top the VRR feature of my 120hz tv helps of course but in VR it’s a different story as 2nd last Jedi mentioned So I will spend some time this weekend to test other options This aliasing is really killing my eyes lol
Pimax Crystal user here. It works great in standard SteamVR but I was interested in the difference using the settings in the OpenXR VR menu. But, I have tried every combination of with and without SteamVR, PimaxVr, OpenXR toolkit, Open composite, OpenXR default mode, OpenXR safe mode, changed the keys for down/open OpenXR menu and the OPENXR MENU just will not appear in VR. What am I doing wrong?
Appreciate the reply and link. I have definitely not tried this yet, so will give it a go. Top man whether this works or not, thank you.
