    Hello

    been posting on the forum since I got my QUEST2 few months ago.

    I have loved VR since Day1 I got the headset but so is now my daughter who is reluctant to share the Q2 to her Dad now.

    So the need for investing in a new one has grown in me, fast enough to make the call soon.

    I could go the Q2 2nd hand route again as they are dirt cheap here in Japan but I feel adventurous enough to look for another brand and PICO has caught my Simracer attention

    I see 2 possible headsets I could buy straight away, the Neo3 link and the Pico4

    To summarize high level comparative Pros from what I have read or watched so far

    Neo3 Link
    PROS
    Clarity through DP (no artefact due to video decoding via USB)
    Reduced latency
    Easier to drive due to lower resolution

    Pico4
    Lighter
    Better resolution (but then more difficult to drive)
    wider FOV
    More comfortable( really??)
    Full RGB passthrough
    Better controllers (but who cares in Simracing!)

    any real-life user experience of both headsets here that could help me to go into one or the other direction?

    thanks a lot

    there is some good discussion about both PICO headsets on

    Join the PicoXR Community Discord Server!

    you'd probably get more responses tbh.

    Yeah also a bit BEYOND mine.
    But because I still havent bought my first VR set but want to get a more future proof one then my guess is that this set because of its rather special specs will keep its position as a high end VR kit more years than most of todays competition.

    Im a very satisfied pico 4 owner even though i dont use it a lot for sim racing, at least yet.
    Since my initial purchase i also upgraded it with prescription lenses and a new head casket as well as bobo vr (basically a new headstrap and back strap that includes a mount for the bobo vr batteries that basically act like a power bank directly mounted to the headset to prolong the battery/prevent battery drain even.

    I have a Pico 4 headset and use it just for sim racing (1200 hrs). I started with Streaming Assistant and although they improved image quality quite a bit, I prefer Virtual Desktop. At the moment the texts are better readable in VD than SA. I'm satisfied with the Pico 4.

    bought 2nd hand NEO3 LINK for equivalent of $150

    it arrived yesterday and its in mint conditions with all accessories.

    had company event last night so did only quick set-up and tried to run AMS2 but it did crash instantly. will do some troubleshooting this weekend because RF" and ACC worked perfectly fine.

    and oh Boy for those who were wondering, the DP is a bless already out of the box without any kind of tuning in Pico app or STEAMVR.

    I need to learn a way to bypass the STEAMVR overlay though because perf were ok but not on par with PCVR on my Q2(granted with help of opencompiste and vrperfit all that)

    the FOV is not too bad and the IPD as well as sweet spot is good to my eyes.

    the only thing is that the faceplate is not comfortable but I was prepared for that reading reviews and forums comments

    anyway more testing to come and report here once I fixed the damn AMS2 launch

    Even though the resolution is higher on some headsets you decide what level of resolution you are sending into the headset

    I have a Quest 2 ,
    taking my time in choosing a new headset
    Pretty much 100% PCVR user cable so stand alone is really needed

    Hiya, I've now got my PICO 4 updated and the connection is now working well, using the USB-C to USB 3 cable. I can now get Steam to work properly and run the game in VR, the only problem is the image is very blurry and the frame rate about 10fps and I have no idea what to try with what settings and where they may be found even. Tear my hair out! (if I had any left lol)
    so would anyone kindly give me some pointers or just straight "do this" so I can get a good experience in vr. I've been using a 4k 40inch flat monitor that runs at 60hz and it is incredibly sharp and clear, I'm always amazed at how good it looks and I should be able to get a reasonable image on the PICO with this hardware too do you think? upgrades to 40 series out of the question.

    A 4k monitor is about 8million pixels where as to achieve the native 2160 x 2160 of the Pico's panel + correcting for distortion is around 12million+ it might actually be closer to 14million can't remember off the top of my head, either way its significantly more pixels to push than you were previously at a higher refresh rate.

    Dropping the resolution and/or adjusting ingame settings, although resolution really is the biggest factor are your only options. 2080ti is a bit of stretch to be honest so you may end up having to settle for a relatively low resolution or reprojection.

    10 fps is too low. I use a Quest 2 with a 3080 and runs fine. Graphics more or less on medium with a solid and stable 90 fps (except at night with cars behind, but that's a different issue).
    There is something wrong there, try to investigate. You should be running it nicely.

    I have no problem with blurrieness using Virtual Desktop on the Pico4. I also use OpenXR. So for me the image is sharp and I run it at 90 Hz.

    i use the Pico 4 with my 4080 / 90fps / 3120x3120 / 150mbit HEVC setting on Pico Ponnect.
    Its sharp. I think the 2080ti is a bit too weak for the Pico 4

    There is also a setting in AMS2 to make things sharper. From the old pCARS2 days
    go to documents\Automobilista 2 and edit the last 3 lines in graphicsconfigopenvrdx11.xml to the following values.

    <prop name="SharpeningStrength" sharpeningstrength="1.300000" />
    <prop name="SharpeningClamp" sharpeningclamp="0.080000" />
    <prop name="OffsetBias" offsetbias="1.300000" />

    I just installed my new card Ventus 4070 so now ready to work on the PICO again now. fingers crossed. :whistle: trying the values suggested above by @Wolfgang Herold

    edit: so far so good, had several hours of play overall. AMS 2 ran smoothly but there is still some fuzziness for when you want to look into the distance (which is most of the time) hence I've got a tiny bit of red eye (strain) on one eye. Even so it is just so much better than using a flat screen and feels like so much less effort and I can drive at a faster pace. But most of all I love the elevation changes. Any suggestions on tweaking some more clarity esp for the distant view?
