How to get the panning effect in screenshots?

I see very nice screenshots with the motion blurred background.
When I run a replay and move the camera I can set a shutter speed, but when I then take a picture, the outcome is still a static shot. There's no panning of the surroundings.
    What am I doing wrong?

Do you have the option "motion blur" enabled? Should be under visuals or performance, iirc.

Also, if you got into screenshot mode, you can (and should) adjust the shutter speed of the virtual camera. Just like in real life, a slow shutter speed (i.e. 1/30th of a second) will blur things more than a short one (i.e. 1/1000th).

One one more thing regarding motion blur: The quality of the motion blur is actually different between replay and photo mode. While in replay mode it is using a performance mode that tends to produce weird artifacts around the car; when you go into photo mode and take a screenshot using the in-game function rather than whatever key Steam has assigned for screenshots (F12 by default?), you don't get these artifacts anymore.

Last but not least I have recently been playing around with photo mode as well and noticed that there appear to be some issues with tracking the car properly when the drone camera is used. Trackside work just fine, but the drone camera often doesn't follow the point you're looking at, leading to situations where both the car and the track are blur because the simulated movement of the virtual camera does not match the vector of the car.

Probably did not enable motion blur. Maybe I misunderstood its function but I thought that was for motion blur during the actual racing, not for screenshots.

Yes, I'm a photographer in real life, so I know the shutter speed effect :) that's why I was wondering why I don't see any motion blur when I take a screenshot with the settings put to 1/30sec.

Maybe I'm just not using it right somehow. Now I go in replay mode, go to the picture settings, and take the picture via the AMS2 interface, not the prt scrn keyboard or VR/Steam function.

The funny thing is, I think it used to be that motion blur was active at all times when enabled, rather than only in replays. But that was changed a ways back, and I'm glad it was. :D

    Same here. :)

What I would like to see for photo mode is the ability to either manually set a point to track when simulating panning, or if the parameters for panning (i.e. horizontal and vertical slew rate) were exposed for us to play around with. Actually, I think I should post that in the corresponding feature suggestion thread...

Then you're doing it right - this should definitely ensure the best quality of screenshots. The steam function works as well and I used it when I just quickly need to capture something, but sometimes the motion blur artifacts are really bad and noticeable, even in 4K.

It was changed with V1.5.3 IIRC
