I still have some stutters with ultra shadows if the weather is clear and the track has too much shadow. With medium medium shadows, those are gone as well. But microstutters are completely gone for me even with the ultra shadows.

If AMS2 fails to launch in VR mode, it just defaults to desktop, so it sounds like you haven't quite configured things correctly. Do you have VDXR set as your active openxr runtime? This can be set in the VD windows app under options.

How do you launch the Game?

from steamvr or VD? Assuming you have the latter set on your machine as it’s posted above me you need the runtime to be set to VDXR

If you have the plain steamvr as launcher and wants to use opencomposite then you need to set the oculus runtime bypass you can find in GitHub
I am then using the opencomposite single DLL file method to get the thing activated

I just use VD with SteamVR, but I think you might need this? GitHub - rodolZ80/bypass-oculus-detector: Windows Library that simulates not having the Oculus service running and having the VR Headset disconnected.

Next to the LMU.exe is the logical place

now sorry afterthought about what I mentioned before

I need this oculus bypass thing for AMS2 to run on my Q2

i don’t think I had to use this trick to play LMU in VR

At work now so will check again tonight sorry if I confused you

In any case the right method should not be different with a Q:3

ok, so, this is what you do for AMS2 and QUEST headset(at least Q2) to trigger openxr runtime )and please forget my other comments, I am gaming in parallel on LeMansutltimate that don't need that 1st step I am showing here)

So the 1st step indeed, get the Libxxxx.dll file that I understand you downloaded already and put it in this folder
    upload_2024-3-11_20-37-57.png

if you use the opencomposite single dll file method like I do, put this openvrxxx.dll in the same Folder and also in the x64 folder
might be redundant I reckon but who knows with VR....

then launch the game from the steam app and chose this option

    upload_2024-3-11_22-23-47.png

finally I would recommend to download openxrtoolkit after you have your install all clean and working. this is a nice tool to monitor VR performance as well as doing some tweaking if you feel the need

oh dont forget to do this too

I'm 66, so I can relate. I try to keep things simple and have stayed away from OpenXR and OpenComposite. I just run with VD and SteamVR. Wish you luck and hope one of the VR genius' in here can help you out.

thank you so much nolive i have been trying all morning i actually didnt have the libxx file so i downloaded again and put it in the folders you pointed out but no luck , i nearly gave up but i deleted the apidll file which i downloaded from github from the game and then verified the integrity of game files with steam which then generated the original apidll so it doesnt need this github file , and it worked i just completed a race with 24 cars at nords in a thunderstorm at 72 fps the timings leveled out at gpu 5.2 ms and cpu about 6 at start they were both under 10 , i hope i can get it going with r factor 2 as i am only getting 40 fps
I OWN YOU LOTS OF BEER if i can do it dryheat you can

my pleasure but it looks like you fixed it yourself, well done:)
the LIBxx file is only to be used if you want the game to trigger steamvr, not oculus as it is by default, so after that you can make use of openxr libraries and get the assistance of tools to improve performances
but it looks like you don't need this extra performance for now so yes you should just carry on and enjoy the Game.

PS as for the beers,I remember having lots of them,I mean really a lot:p, during frequent visits to Australia in the past year. Especially in Melbourne, if memory serves well in places like Moon Dog something and few smaller one.You OZ enjoy life for sure:Dtake care

I bought a new wifi router with wifi 6 to be able to actually use the wireless pcvr options properly with the quest 3

With the link cable, I had got settings I was mostly okay with with couple of different variations, one with fps set at 80 and ASW disabled and other with 120fps and ASW enabled. Both did rely on having the fov (FOV tangent multiplier in the oculus debug tool) heavily restricted vertically (with value of 0.3) to get the performance to be good enough as I really don't like the fps going all over the place even in worst conditions.

With the wireless options, using oculus airlink, with the bitrate to set to fixed 200 (max), having the router optimally positioned, PC connected to it with lan cable, I actually got quality that was close using link cable with same settings otherwise. There was just a abit of occasional weird stutter here and there and maybe the resolution wasn't as high in the distance (expected with lower bitrate), but that didn't bother me that much (stutter did, even though it wasn't that bad).

Now I have been now playing with is using Virtual desktop, openxr toolkit and open composite combination. VD supports multiple encoder options and I easily found that H.264+ gives a really good results, I can up the bitrate to 500 (have used 400, but I think my router can handle even 500) and with all the VD features, like improvements on the colours, AMS2 does look better than with both link cable and airlink (I have 3080, so can't use the AV1 coded, which is the only other option there). On daytime racing with clear weather, the performance is good enough, but the performance definitely tanks if I have nightime and nighttime + rain.

To get more headroom for worst scenarios, I have started playing with the foveated rendering (custom adjustments) and trying to adjust it such way that I would get something similar as with the fov tangent multiplayer, which I cannot use with this. If we look at the pictures here Foveated Rendering , I define the resolution of the "outer region" to "cul", which means it doesn't render at all (unfortunately it isn't black either), made the regions more widerm trying to find a sweetspot where I don't really notice any lower resolution mid area or artifacts in the image, but still get clear performance benefits. Current I'm in a spot where it looks good on daytime with 80fps and on night+rain+starting at front it drops to about 58fps initially and then improves there the less cars I have right behind me (up to 70+). Not as good enough yet, but that is definitely the worst conditions I can think off.

So anyone there considering wireless setup, I think it is worth it, assuming you get good enough router and are able to connect your pace to it with lan cable (both are mandatory conditions!)

ps. this way you can also go wired... to your charger and not worry about battery running out ever during driving .

Hello, where exactly while using Virtual Desktop do you adjust the "Foveated rendering" stuff ? I know the Steam Link app has that adjustment where the outside is rendered at a much lower resolution but i was not able to find that setting in Virtual Desktop.
