My dear old wheel (Thurstmaster T500RS) is getting old and weak. I am thinking to replace it with a Fanatec CSL DD wheel. Is that a good choice? It's a little complicated to order since its all in parts. Could i reuse my TH8 shifter from my T500RS wheel? Thnks for help.
Yup, TH8A comes with its own USB cable and I'm using the same setup fine in AMS2. And I jumped to CSLDD from T300 myself, so feel free to ask me stuff
My faithful Logitech G25 finally died just after the release of the Fanatec CSL DD base. Fortunate, because if it had died earlier I would probably have gone for Logitech or Thrustmaster gear or belt models, the direct drive alternatives being too expensive for me to justify. I went CSL DD with booster, McLaren GT3 V2 wheel and CSL pedals, no clutch. Basically the cheaper combo. Did it make me much faster? Not really. My fastest laps on the Logitech G25 were similar. But, it did improve my consistency. And I think that's because the feel is much improved. With the Logitech wheel, if you lost control a bit, things went wrong very quickly, and you'd be off track, maybe in the barrier before you could correct things. The Fanatec combo is much better. You feel, that bit sooner, if things are going wrong, and you have time to correct (most times!). It just feels more responsive, better feedback, more like a real car. I can recommend.
I have had fanatec until recently and while I liked their ecosystem and had no problems with their hardware I did have a problem with how they operated. I sold it all off and went simagic and couldn't be happier. I find the simagic wheels themselves to be a better quality than fanatecs. The only downside is that their software is not as well developed as fanalab but it does what it was intended to do
