If you'd travel from very far, I think that's fair. Especially if I'd have existing company at home to keep me entertained during the wait :)

I would agree apart from they’ve said multiple times it’s close, then nothing.
Also you got a 3rd party to do a showing, so they’re confident to a point, so just give the reason/reasons. Again there have been MULTIPLE times, they’ve said it’s close, so unless that was a complete lie and they were just drumming up hype, which I don’t believe for a second. Everyone who cares at this point does deserve to be filled in.

To be honest I have not driven AMS 1 in quite a long time now. So I can't really say anything useful on that. Since I'd just be talking out of my behind even more than usual if I did.

The sim it will be closest to is and will always be the previous version of AMS2. It's its own game, carving its own path on the way towards simulating real life, which is the only comparison that makes sense in my opinion.

You also couldn't get any feeling for how ACC 1.8 feels compared to ACC 1.9 by comparing it to AC 1.

(Not saying, btw, that the steps between AMS2 1.5 and 1.6 are comparable to ACC 1.8 and 1.9)

@Calypso Dawson-Tobich There was a reply by a dev to your question on the last page. There is nothing to know beyond that reply, so what are you trying to get towards here?

Speaking from an outside perspective the answer is the same as any other software development programme and sadly, it's an open ended answer: "As much as it takes until the developers are happy to release it publically." As someone who is having a week off from their job of explaining to people that software development is ongoing and slow, it's a common thing that software development of any kind goes through several stages - Templating, Design, Implementation, Internal Testing, User Testing, Sign Off and Release. The bit mostly everyone wants here is "Release" and it's the same in my day job as it is here. In each instance my clients ask "when will this be ready by" and all I can provide to them is the truth - "We don't know until we know, because we might discover issues at any time before the 'sign off' stage, but we are working hard on as many fronts as possible for this to be right for release."

That last sentence is more or less what Reiza are doing - making sure that the software is ready for release. 1.6 is coming, but because this is a project with stages similar to those I have listed above, it's entirely possible that in the testing phases, they have discovered issues which mean it's a no-go for release, and the process goes back to "design" or "implementation." For what it's worth, if I were in their very large and maybe uncomfortably tight shoes, I'd be doing as much as I could to make sure we could get to a "sign off" position for everything that they wanted to release for 1.6, which as Crimson Eminence has said, is a lot, especially for a small development team. Asking "what's left to be done" might get you a different answer every time you ask it, and you will probably never be satisfied until the point where they say "we have released" if you can't understand that progress in development of a software project isn't a linear upward curve, but a progress line for items that look like a lot of peaks and troughs.

The simplest way of understanding what is going on in terms of a release therefore is to be patient, to look at what official sources say, and to not keep on assuming that asking "when, why, how, when" is going to get you the answer you want, because there are times in any development cycle, that even the people in a development team don't know the answers themselves fully due to the nature of what they do.

The easiest way to keep yourself informed of the project is look for posts from Reiza staff - they will know more about what is actually happening, and in the mean time, find something, anything, constructive to do that takes your mind off the "NEED to know", because you'll just be left watching for something that may take even longer than you already want. Maybe even play AMS2 in its current state and get a feel for how it is now in cars you don't like and tracks you don't like so maybe when 1.6 does come out, you enjoy it even more.

It depends on who is late. If she is a Margot Robbie look-alike, I won't ask any question...

Actually it does say it was taken down due to copyright claims by Reiza!

Really!? This is the weirdest thing I have heard from a professional. I have been working in the software development industry for nearly 40 years. I have managed multinational mission critical projects across many industries and I have to say if this was my response to the project stake holders, I would not have lasted very long. Of course software development is not an exact science and can be argued it is rather more like art than science, but the important key is learning from project history to improve project specific estimates over time and more importantly, constant communication. When budgets are involved, no "client" is going to accept "its ready when its ready". Thats absurd.

Sure, in this case though, the team is small and it's of no consequence even though the communication is ambiguous, typically inaccurate and very much inconsistent. One could even argue that we are not the stake holders in this case. Thats all fine, but to suggest this is how software development is in the "real world" as in the quoted text is ridiculous.

To be clear.. I don't care about the delays. Reiza owes me nothing. It will indeed arrive when it arrives and I gave up paying any attention to timelines or even whats going to be delivered, I just get tired of the inaccurate portrayal of how professional software development works when disciplined management principles are applied.

Then we shall agree to disagree as what I work on is different to what you do, and how my projects are managed, and how yours are, and indeed how Reiza’s own projects are managed are not set to a universal standard, or have the same clients. My post was only an opinion piece and no more. In respect of this particular piece of work - the only factual statements come from Reiza, and if they want to deep dive into their project management, this is their prerogative.

I am not sure whats to disagree with exactly. I was more addressing the start of your post which stated
It came across as more of a lecture on how software development works and unfortunately, you inferred this is the case for any software development program and I wanted to counter that point as it seemed less like opinion and more a stated fact about software development in general. Sure, if your project doesn't care about stakeholder budgets or timelines or coordinating with marketing material preparation timelines, maybe that approach works but it is not how all software programs work that's for sure.

At the end of the day, the key to managing expectations is communication. In that area I think Reiza could improve.

I will agree with you on this, and I think that Crimson has acknowledged this in a previous post in this on behalf of everyone there. Anyway, I’ll stop back-and-forthing with you on this, as it’s not my intention to inflame passions further on project management with you or anyone else. Especially as it is utterly less exciting than AMS2. Unless you really do get a kick out of watching deadlines getting closer and closer…
