A while ago @Marc Collins wrote some praising words about the Porsche GT3 Cup in the now forbidden 1.6 thread. After reading his post I've tried the car for the first time and oh boy, this car feels fantastic. From all the GT3 cars this car brings the biggest smile on my face when hot lapping on the Nordschleife. I can't figure out why this car brings so much more joy to me than all the other GT3s. Is it b/c I have to work more to keep it on track when driving on the limit? Maybe some peeps with more insights or experience can help me figuring it out. Cheers.
Cup Porsches of that generation were quite different to the GT3 cars, way less front aero, no real undertray aero, a big wing, decent Michelin N2 tires and a quite good NA engine. The rear gives some traction but can also make it break out more when you swing the car at corner entry, due to the weight distribution, the tire dimensions and the rearwards aero bias it can be understeery in endured cornering at speed but it moves around more in load transitions and braking. Needs a bit more throttle control due to no traction control and the weight bias.
thanks for the insights. Much appreciated. So your point is, the car makes more fun b/c of the imperfections in aero and the hard tires compared the 991 GT3 R? Did you made the car configuration in the game? It feels the dev who configured the car had some special love for the cup cars.
Sometimes the Cup needs to be driven more like a vintage race car than a GT car, it indeed has imperfections and handles more like a handful due to being more lively. It's always a team effort what creates the cars. I'm sure 1.6 will also sort some other love interests in the handling department further.
Try the Porsche Cup cars on a bumpy track like Long Beach. The 3.8 and 4.0 cup cars are my favourite of all the cars in the game. They feel to me the most like driving a real car. On Long Beach, because of all the imperfections and bumps in the track surface, you really feel the cars chassis moving around, I don't get this much with any other cars, even the GT3 cars, it feels a bit muted, could be because they have slightly more advanced suspension systems to soak up all the bumps, I'm not sure. But heck, I fricken love the Porsche Cup cars too.
Sebring in the Cup car is my go to, its just so good. In VR its just so believable that I'm actually driving the car irl. I jump from AMS2 to rF2 and they is very close to each other. Before the latest updates (beta) rF2 was on a different level but in the latest beta AMS2 has caught up. Even the FFB (i now have AMS2 damping at 0) feels very similar. I just hope Renato can tame the spinning i see from the Ai.
My favorite location to drive the Cup car is at Donington. Driving through the corners down to the Old Hairpin and feeling how the weight shift affects the car, and balancing the car on the edge of grip on the way back up to Coppice is truly amazing. It is my recommended "first thing to try" on v1.6
Donington is not on my short dial track list. But recently I had a very fun GT5 race on the track. Will try the Cup car there too. Thanks for the suggestion, mate.
I have a great time with these cars but indeed, I see the AI more from the front than from the rear. They spin constantly.
If you like Porsche Cup in 1.5 wait until you try it in 1.6. Porsche Cup 4.0 has always been one of my favorite cars in AMS2 and it's the car I've driven the most in 1.6.
Not directly. I don’t know if I may name the name of the circuit to be honest. If so, I’ll tell you which circuit and where. Other than that, the car is awesome to drive. Kudos to the team and drink a glass on my account. Bottoms up.
I'm curious: Whats the biggest difference in the car feeling between 1.5 and 1.6? What behaviour do you dislike in v1.6?
Turn 1 and the fast right left near the back straight. I did a report in the Ai thread saying what Ai settings i used. 115/ low
Imo Porsche Cup's handling feels more predictable in 1.6. Once I get the tires up to temperature braking feels more stable and the car feels more predictable on corner exit. It can still be challenging since it has no TC and less aero than GT3s but the 1.6 version is more enjoyable to drive than the 1.5 version imo.
