Apparently you can do 48 cars on Kansai East, should be interesting. A Group C/Copa Fusca multi-class race there seems like the right thing to do.

Three things to try on v1.5 before v1.6 is released

Although the physics changes in v1.6 are significant, they can be quite subtle if you don't know what to look for and mostly drive safely below the limit, and if you cannot easily switch between trying the old and new version of the game. Until v1.6 is released, below are three scenarios that you can familiarize yourself with on v1.5 so that you can notice how the behavior is different on v1.6.

Scenario 1: Grip/slideyness on cold vs. warm tires, and cheating your way out of understeer by turning even more
    • Test Day: Porsche Cup on default setup @ Donington or modern Kyalami. Default Date @ 08:00, weather Heavy Cloud, track state Default Progressing.
    • Drive at least 3 laps, until the tires have finished heating up and you're no longer gaining lap time from the tires getting closer to optimal temperature. Then return to pits and drive a few more laps from cold tires.
    • Notice the difference in lap time between cold and warm tires (for me it is ~1s on v1.5)
    • Notice how relatively little difference there is in slideyness between cold and warm tires – cold tires feel pretty much the same as warm tires, just that they are slower
    • Note how the car feels when it starts to understeer, such as in the Craner Curves (the left-hander down to the Old Hairpin) or through Sunset/Mineshaft, and how you can overcome it. You should be able to "steer more to overcome understeer" by overturning your steering wheel to the extreme while staying on throttle.

Scenario 2: The ability to power your way through a corner with supernatural slip angle
    • Time Trial: Formula Inter on default setup @ Interlagos
    • Notice how easy it is to induce controllable oversteer when you brake late and release the brake abruptly while turning
    • Notice how easy it is to push through and control the slide by countersteering and adding throttle
    • Notice how this can be faster than staying below the limit. The rear tires get slightly warmer than normal, but it doesn't cost you time.
    • Notice how much room there is for error on when and how sharply you apply corrections and how tolerant/mushy the car feels

Scenario 3: FFB response "floaty" vs. "planted" at low/high speed and feeling the limit of grip
    • Time Trial: Formula Classic Gen 4 Model 2 on default setup @ Montreal, Default+ FFB flavor
    • While weaving on the straight at high speed, the car should feel planted, but the car becomes a bit vague and floaty in slow corners when below downforce speeds (100mph/160kph) where the car relies on mechanical grip
    • Notice and try to remember for later how the FFB feels on v1.5 during brake lockup and when balancing the throttle out of slow corners, it should feel more nervous in v1.6
(Note: this third scenario can be a bit difficult without actually having the ability to compare game versions side-by-side, and there can be a bit of placebo/nocebo involved)

One thing to try before v1.6 is released...

Do I have enough space on the SSD or does something need deleting... (Looking at you EA WRC)?

A great showcase from Mike, I love the new lighting and colour tone, a lot less gamey looking. The AI seemed to behave very well. Also a great job done on the Sebring track from Reiza. Hopefully it drives as good as it looks.

Yeah, any quirkiness in AI overtaking from The Stream That Shall Not Be Named is definitely not present here.

Also notice... the liveries for IMSA are SPOT ON. My GOD it is going to be fun.

Also... anybody else notice that the exhausts from the Porsche are blue? I saw this on a cool vid from Le Mans... the attention to detail here is wild!

I'm not totally convinced by the AI in this video.
Mike got spun out by an LMP2car as he lapped it. Mike blamed himself. But, the lapped car just headed for the corner apex and left him nowhere to go.
Still, many of the GT3s jumped out of the way pretty convincingly. So, there's a lot a good AI in the race too.

After reading about the kernel stuff I realized a lot people regret ever installing EA WRC.

For me, it's only just become playable and it's not a bad game, but I can't get hooked to it like I could with DR2 because I detest its career mode design. I suspect I need to sacrifice something for the SSD space, so that's top of the list, but maybe I won't. Any beta testers willing to share their install size?

Latest beta is around 10GB bigger than public build, but I'd expect the update to be bigger than that since a lot of stuff will be changed.

People, I must say I have been sitting on the sidelines watching everything unfold……as a regular AMS2 owner I have been encamped in the “get a move on and release this thing” camp unfortunately, but these videos, these videos show how much effort has been put in. From a distance and at a glance it doesn’t look that different does it? Then you look closer, visually the game just looks much more real, everything just looks better! If the handling has changed as has already described then this really will be something special.

Now I start to understand why this has been delayed so much, past times, hobbies, obsessions, whatever you wish to call what we’ve got involved with, It attracts perfectionism and this in turn answers the questions about the delay, every improvement in turn opens a wind to yet another improvement and so on, in a constant search for perfection.

I wait with bated breath confidently that something special is happening, keep the faith people!

Arrgh, I sound like a right fan boy now!!!

Looks like the hype train is back on its tracks :)

Don't expect perfection, there are some minor quirks here and there so if you want to find issues you'll find them, but objectively speaking, there are more pros than cons. And there will be even more updates later.

I'm hyped once more details are now public

So... @Racinglegend1234, are you allowed to release video from 1.6 now? I saw you just put one out - but couldn't tell if you were driving in the beta or not!

Yes but that's not something a human driver wouldn't do, AI shouldn't drive perfectly all the time imo.

I think that is the best explanation for the unfortunate time and expectation management I have read recently. It's exactly this: It was as if Reiza had access to a bottomless well of improvements; just spend a little time and some smaller or bigger gains are going to pop out. If you know that, it's gotta be really hard to find a place to stop.

Because it's definitely not going to be perfect. It is, however, going to be better (for most people and in most areas) than even Reiza themselves were expecting at the beginning of the cycle.
