Hi all, I’m in the market for a new GPU. I’m back to using a triple-screen setup for a change, but my current GPU only has 2x DisplayPort and 2x HDMI. I need a new GPU with 3x DisplayPort, since my screens only have HDMI 2.0 ports (and DisplayPort, of course), so running three screens isn’t working smoothly at the moment. As I’ve never owned an AMD GPU before, I’m curious if the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX is a good choice for sim racing, particularly with a triple-screen setup. I’ve read so many mixed opinions about AMD GPUs—some say they’re not ideal for multi-screen setups, have poor driver support, etc., while others claim it’s a great GPU and that Eyefinity works even better than Nvidia Surround. So, there are a lot of pros and cons. Are there any AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX users here? What’s your experience with this card on a triple-screen setup? thanks in advance for the reply.
I cannot speak for the 7900 XTX, but I have a 7900 GRE so should be similar enough with regards to driver stability an so on. Background: I've had a 3090 since release, but it recently died and I replaced it with the 7900 GRE. All pros and cons are my personal opinion, so don't take it as an absolute truth Pros: Better driver GUI, easier to change settings and tune overclocking settings compared to Nvidia. No need for 3rd party tools like Afterburner I really like Fluid Motion Frames 2, helps out with frame rate on my 4K screen. Have around 130-140 FPS with most settings on high and ultra No problems with melted power connectors, card uses the good old 8-pin. Price/performance a lot better than Nvidia. Good amount of VRAM. Cons: It's not an Nvidia card... Nvidia is 'the standard' that everyone supports - some features missing, but mostly for VR No foveated rendering unless the game uses DX12 Some upcoming high end headsets doesn't support AMD Radeon That being said, I haven't had any problems using the card with the Quest 3. Drivers have been stable for me, but I don't upgrade drivers very often. As for triples I haven't tried it myself, but when I was on Nvidia I never used Nvidia surround, as AMS2 has good built-in triple support. So I see no need to use AMD's version of surround...
Informative answer, thanks for that! After checking the prices for the Nvidia GPU I was considering, it comes down to €999 for AMD versus €1299 for Nvidia. I guess AMD is the clear winner here. I’ll take the plunge and switch to the AMD camp.fingers crossed.
