Found this CPU benchmark for 1080p and 1080p triples. You can see that 9800X3D really suffers in AMS2 1080p triples on 0,1% and 1% lows. Could this be an indication for having stutters in VR?

I wouldn't wish to have a worse experience than with my 7950x3D

See at 12:48 in this video:

His triples added together aren't even running 4k. I'm assuming you're going to be running much higher resolutions than 4k in VR (3k x 3k per eye) so you're going to be heavily GPU limited and not CPU limited like he was.
He should have posted the workload of each of the cores to see if the 9800x3d was spreading it out evenly or if it was confined to a single core.

That's right, at Steam VR I am running:

    1) 2708*2656 (74% scale for rain),
    2) 3148*3084 (100% scale for many tracks)
    3) 3856*3780 (150% scale for less demanding tracks)

The headset resolution itself is 2160*2160 per eye

But that's all beside the point form me. The fact that I am GPU limited is basic and I think 95% of PC users understand that.

However, a good CPU can still:
    1) improve how much of the GPU is used, improving frame rate
    2) reduce micro stutters

Now, it is these micro stutters that were magically cut when I moved from 5950x to 7950x3D. When buying the 9800x3D I hope for two main things:

    1) Cut micro stutters further in AMS2
    2) Improve ACC performance

Based on that video it looks like micro stutters are worse on the 9800x3D vs 7800x3D making me totally doubt if I should make the change.

And please I'm not personally considering money here. I understand people have different possibilities etc, but Sim racing is my only hobby, I have money and I'm not interested in spending it on smth else. What I want is the best possible experience I can have in the sim.

Micro stutters can have all sorts of different causes, my issues (5800x3d and 4080 super, Quest 3 at 90hz and the resolution slider all the way up with Max settings in AMS 2 apart from shadows for daytime running) were resolved by disabling HAGs and disabling some legacy USB stuff.

    Whats a HAG?

How do you disable legacy USB stuff? What is that?

If you turn off HAGS remember to reboot then go back into the settings and check its turned off

For Quest 3 and maybe 3 users:

Before new NVIDIA driver update, I used 650 bitrate with 120Hz, and this is the max I can push with a 4070 Super. After last update, it starts to be unplayable. I reduce to 350 bitrate, and runs OK with crap visuals.

After a while, I tried 800-900 bitrate, and runs flawless, but anything between 400 - 800 bitrate is unplayable.

    Strange, but really good!

I use the "AV1 10-bit Quest 3" codec at 200 bitrate since that is the maximum.
Compared to any other codec it looks better and has basically near zero latency !
Yes there are still some compression artifacts on grey areas but it is a lot less distracting than with any of the other codecs that i tested.

Also i am still using the 552.44 drivers that they recommend, i do hope there will be some update on those because performance on new games sucks now.

Just to add to this discussion. I've spent the last 3 days with a clean install of public version. Using VD I cannot get rid of the micro stutters no matter what I tried. Also using the 552.44 Nvidia drivers. I have a very capable system and AXE75/5400 router 3 feet from me, attached with cable to my PC. I finally gave up on using VD with AMS2. I don't have the beta installed, so not sure if that will solve the issue.

As soon as I go to cable I have no more issues, even using latest Nvidia driver at 750 bitrate. Per Ernesto's message I'll increase it to 800 just to be safe. My only issue with cable is that pesky dirty usb port error as soon as I plug it into the adapter that comes with the Q3, which makes it worthless for keeping the battery charged and limiting my game time to the life of the headset battery. Just now I decided to try plugging the cable into a powered usb adapter and so far so good. Hopefully this is the end of the insanity I've had for the last 3 days. So frustrating.

This is the cable I use. https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Cable-Charging-Charger-Headset-Accessories/dp/B0BRQMFDQ3

Edit: When using VD, I can see the stutters when they happen using fpsVR. They hit on both the GPU and CPU graphs. I have ASW disabled always. I also use the Oculus Bypass Detector. Stutters whether I use SteamVR or OpenComposite.

I'm running now at 960 bitrate, same latency as H.264 (Quest 2 don't have AV1) with 500 bitrate before 566.14 NVIDIA driver. This new driver is strange, but I like it.

thanks for sharing.I am running VR at high resolution on PSVR2 and PICO NEO3LINK, with a 4080S and 5800X3D.
If these Triples benchmark become applicable for VR then I see no benefit for me to invest in the AM5 platform if I focus on AMS2.Other Games benefit it much much more.

He is saying he will run VR benchmark so lest wait and see

I am more wired PCVR user(PSVR2 and PICO NEO3 LINK) to avoid the awful compression/decompression challenge I used to experiment on my QUEST2.
But I have kept the headset and now that I run a solid HW combo 4080S and 5800X3D,I have done some trials today

    LINK

I can run at 960MBps encoding in ODT with this Resolution per eye in STEAM.
in Meta I pushed supersampling to Max 1.5X but I guess it doesn't matter as I use the Bypass Oculus registry mod.

    upload_2024-11-17_12-34-42.png

I don't seem to feel any stutters in Game in day conditions(any), its of course a different matter with Night and rain with fps dropping when lights from other cars or heavy rain come into play

    AIRLINK
I couldn't get it to start when I had set any bitrate over 200 in ODT.My old memory was telling it wasn't the case a couple of years ago, maybe Meta has now completely locked it
Even changing bitrate in the Airlink app didn't fix the No start issue,I really had to set 200MBps in ODT

anyway, once it started it was not a great visual experience as picture is blocky but it runs pretty smooth 90fps. Its true though that some frametime purple spikes appear in FPSVR monitoring.
I am usually very sensitive to stuttering but here it was not bothering me as such

    STEAMLINK
I had tested it when it launched last year I believe and it wasn't a great experience, but to my surprise today,I could really push both bitrate and bandwidth to levels making it a better visual experience than with AIrlink

And it ran pretty much the same than with AIrlink in terms of smoothness, still could see regular purple spikes though

My Wifi network is easy,I have a dedicated router for SImracing PCVR purpose so no interreference and no other devices in the house eating bandwidth

I had the issue you describe, also dedicated router, VD with AV1 codec at 200 mbps, Quest 3 connected to powerbank (becouse AV1 gives me similar picture quality than oculus link with cable). Just restarting the pc seem to fix the issue. Also this happens to me when I run VR seasion for the first time after clean install of the pc, at least for me.

After another full day of giving it my all, I gave up on VD. No matter what I do I get micro stutters. Cable works flawlessly. I really like VD (it makes everything so easy), but I simply can't deal with the micro stutters. I'll give it another go when a new version of VD is released.

If I do figure it out I'll be sure to post in this thread what the culprit was.

Sometimes you just need to sleep on things. As I typed the last message it got me to thinking that this has to be a router setting. I went the last month without using my rig and then did a clean install of AMS2. It seems since then a neighbor bought a new router and I was on the same channel. I changed to a higher 6g channel and no more stutters. I've now tested with AV1@200 bitrate and using OpenComposite with VDXR and smooth as a baby's behind. This mystery is solved.

For reference I'm using the latest OpenComposite DLL and the latest Nvidia drivers 566.14.
