R3E has improved a lot over the decade it has been out. If that is a sign of how much AMS2 is about to improve, sim racing is in for something really good in the coming years!

Just a touch of healthy sarcasm for what I already wrote weeks ago, nothing more than something fun.

Debates always start this way, expressing one’s opinion on something and seeking discussion in a forum of enthusiasts. But you're right, there hasn't been any debate, though that's not on me if others don't want to discuss the topic and would rather complain because I made an unwelcome comparison.

The start of something determines the outcome of it. So if you start with something which people won’t like then there will be no debate. I would never go the Raceroom forums and say “look at AMS2 everyone, it is much younger and soooo much better”. This doesn’t cause a debate it causes fights

While everyone is entitled to their preference posting the R3E comparison in an AMS2 1.6 hype train thread is just a bad start for any non-1.6 conversation.

I'd suggest starting again in a separate thread and I'm sure there's a discussion to be had as both sims are pretty good.

I don't mind people with access to the the AMS2 1.6 beta comparing it to different games, but imo people who don't have access to the beta and haven't experienced the latest changes to the game should wait before making comparisons.

I enjoy driving in Raceroom, too. The updated Nordschleife is very nice and atmospheric, updated tracks like Oschersleben, Zandvoort & Portimao look & feel great and the sound is also nice, but the generic car dashes are somehow a big deal breaker for me. It might not be a problem for most of the players, but for me it just feels not right, especially in the GT3 cars, where we have such nice looking dashes like in the Porsche 992 GT3.
This is a big plus in AMS2 for me, imagine driving the hypercars without all the informations on the dash.

You’re right in saying that maybe this wasn’t the right section, but what should we do while we wait? I thought I’d bring a bit of healthy spice, that’s all. But CrimsonEminence is right—there are too many fanboys here who only have eyes for AMS2. I expressed and argued my thoughts in a detailed way; I didn’t write that AMS2 1.5 is trash or that RaceRoom is the best simulator ever. Open another thread? But the people would still be the same as here, so I doubt it would lead to an enjoyable and interesting discussion elsewhere.

Play any computer/console game, walk, cycle, clean, cross-stitch, call a friend, volunteer, read a book... ;)
Jokes aside, there's so much everything else in this world that 1.6 wait shouldn't even matter.

The good thing about a forum is that topics can be hosted in their respective sections. Adding a different conversation to the main thread's topic is just not how forums work. Yes, the system gets abused often, but that's what the moderation is for and Crimson's ungrateful task of keeping it all at bay. Why not make his life easier?
And who knows, maybe a comparison thread gets enough traction to live its own life...

What should we do while we wait? My suggestions are:

Play Raceroom! The little NSU cars around that little Swedish track are pretty fun.

Or play AMS1. Play AMS2 v1.5. Wash our cars, walk our dogs... Or, given the title of this thread, we could talk about the aspects of AMS2 that we are hyped about. If we are no longer hyped (as you have stated regarding yourself) then sure, say so by all means. Perhaps only once though. There's no need to tell the same group of people we're not hyped multiple times. That soon becomes repetitively redundant and annoying.

If the hype conversation dries up a bit, well so what? We could accept that there's a lull in the hype. We could try to drum up further conversation by - given the title of this thread - bringing up some aspect of v1.6 that perhaps hasn't been talked about so much. Or, we could go to or create some other thread covering a topic of interest to us and post there. As explained by a Reiza employee and several others, it's not just about what we say and how we say it, but also where we choose to say it.

Out of interest, what is the reason you are still here in the hype train thread something like 24 posts and three weeks after stating "For now, goodbye Reiza"? Did something happen to rekindle your interest in AMS2 v1.6?

If you wanna be obtuse, be obtuse :D

For the record, I don't think your comparison is wrong in any way, but it is highly subjective in the points it emphasizes and its conclusions.

I can do the same in reverse:

R3E is notorious for being far off the mark in terms of laptimes with high aero cars, being suspiciously robust in situations where there are two loaded tyres on the grass and two on the track, lacking mid-corner and corner entry oversteer in many cars, too much difficulty and punishment applying the throttle and having inaccurate tracks.

If I now add praise for highly accurate AMS2 tracks and the dynamic behaviour throughout the corners, condemn R3E devs for still running that engine from the stone ages and praise Reiza for having the courage to switch to Madness, and post that to the R3E forum, you think that's gonna get me a nuanced discussion? :p

Currently, Raceroom is a more solid and cohesive product compared to Automobilista 2. However, it’s important to consider that Raceroom has been in development for over ten years and runs on an outdated engine. On the other hand, Automobilista 2 is evolving build by build, thanks to a growing understanding and mastery of the Madness Engine.

In conclusion: Raceroom is a solid and classic product that’s easy to feel comfortable with. Automobilista 2 has its unique features (which is why I play it much more often than RRE), and once you understand them, you can’t help but appreciate them.

Posting one´s opinion about R3E once is absolutely fine, repeating it over and over again for weeks in a thread that is called "Road to V1.6 Hype Train" is trolling. Simple as that.

I've returned to the forum to check if the update had been released, and since it's still nothing after 3 weeks, I'm as impatient as everyone else. I decided to make a comparison to better understand my impressions after not playing AMS2 for a while. If I'm here, it's because I'm waiting for 1.6. I’m not here to undermine Reiza, as I’ve already explained in detail. If you go over to the RaceRoom forum, you can present your thoughts more precisely and with proper context. Of course, if you meet fanboys, you might get criticized, but you could also come across more insightful and grounded opinions from others.
If you go there, you'll notice that I've been quite critical of them on many things as well.

Maybe I’m an ams2 old fanboy to be won back, but you won’t get that by focusing on the fact that I was reckless in posting my thoughts here. I really appreciate the consideration from DannyDB, Dicra, and Siggi Stoppschild. They shared their thoughts on the comparison, and for example, I agree that the RaceRoom dashboards are terrible. As for the graphics, I don’t seem as outdated to me from the video.. Don't seem that different from AMS2, in fact, it doesn't really fall short. The circuits, in my opinion, are even more detailed, especially the distant details. But hey, these are personal opinions that seem to make you angry. It would take some screenshots to prove it objectively, but you've made me lose the desire to continue discussing the comparison, cause you keep criticizing me and putting only dislikes or disagrees.

    Oh come now....

    1. What have I said to give the impression I'm angry? I simply tried to explain - in response to a question from yourself, and very politely I thought - why this particular thread is not the correct place to (repeatedly) post how much one likes another game. There are plenty of more appropriate threads for that kind of discussion. I'm not angry at all, but I will admit to being a little frustrated at what has been coming across as a repeated sales pitch for Raceroom. Not because I have any issue with people praising other games they like, but because it's been happening in an inappropriate thread.

    2. If you're passionate about Raceroom, about your feelings on its comparison with AMS2, about discussing those comparisons, and any aspects of Raceroom that Reiza might do well to pay attention to, then why let a few people suggesting you take the discussion to another thread stop you? Respectfully, that sounds like cutting one's nose off to spite one's face. If your post had been in 'General Chit Chat' or 'Other Sims' or 'What I think Raceroom does better than AMS2' then the response would have been very different.

    3. I keep criticising you? As far as I'm aware I've only ever responded to you one of your thirty odd posts and that was today. (Well twice now). But even in that response, where did I criticise you? All I did was suggest that your post was in the wrong thread.

    4. Putting only dislikes and disagrees? I've checked back thirty odd messages from yourself, and I've only disliked one and disagreed with another. So in total 2/30, or even looking at posts from today only, 2/10.

The first message I disliked partly because it was a Raceroom "sales pitch" in an inappropriate thread, but mostly because of your comment: "And now, enjoy my video testing the Lamborghini Huracán. AMS2 developers have been promising for over a year. While you wait (and wait), RaceRoom lets us enjoy it in all its glory". Reiza have not been promising any Lamborghini, Huracan or otherwise for anywhere close to a year. The Lambo DLC was only announced in the last few weeks.

Then I disagreed with a post where you essentially defended having posted in an inappropriate thread and basically accused the forum majority of being closed-minded, saying "But the people would still be the same as here, so I doubt it would lead to an enjoyable and interesting discussion elsewhere.". Why have so little faith in others? I don't think there's been even a single response saying you shouldn't discuss Raceroom or your feelings on how it compares with AMS2. Pretty much all responses have basically said go for it - just do so in a more appropriate thread.

I think this post does a really good job of explaining my own frustration with a lot of the negativity that goes around AMS 2 circles. It often feels like when someone from the "pro-AMS 2" side offers an olive branch and tries to have a respectful and tactful discussion it seems to get dismissed and ignored. Like here, Duncan has been super respectful yet Ilfanterock claims that he is "angry" and talks about how many dislikes/disagrees they got from Duncan. I think it's fair to say that if you want to go in and criticize something, you should be open to that very opinion being challenged and that's something I sadly don't see a lot of from those criticizing AMS 2.

I can not tell you guys how frustrating it is to see people who make valid critisms of AMS 2 end up combining those valid critisms with really silly stuff like complaining about how many disagrees they got, it really accomplishes nothing. Getting dislike-bombed genuinely sucks, but it's the gamble you play when you state an opinion on the internet. Everyone has the right to criticize what someone put out there, just as much as people are allowed to criticize what Reiza puts out. We've all been through it, just step away, do something to take your mind of stuff and then in a day no one is gonna care so long as you "agree to disagree" and move on.
