I’m yet to go beyond a 30 minute race in 1.6 - for say a 60-90 minute race with a scheduled / compulsory stop could this potentially be mitigated? E.g less about pit strategy as stop is required.

When selecting FCY in 1.6 against AI, is this still a scheduled FCY or random?

I just had a race where FCY came in the first lap

You can set a scheduled FCY in race settings, but FCY itself was never "random" but responds to accidents on track.

Have the scheduled FCY been fixed so its not always at the midpoint of the race?

Likewise - quite a spectacular crash from an AI rejoin - very iRacing-like

Just wasn’t sure if selecting FCY on the menu meant it was ‘guaranteed’ or not.

I love the drama but can be a little tedious doing 2.5 laps of a long track behind the safety car in a sprint race.

it says quite clearly under his name that he is Exploring VR Motorbike Games. I guess he just happens to be doing it here. I think... I think he's not lost at all. In his world, he's right where he wants to be.

I guess a setting that determines how bad things need to be in order to spawn the SC could be useful

When you turn it on there is an option right next to, or below it can't remember right now, to set at 25/50/75% of the race.

That has been there for a very long time, but even if you choose anything else it would always come at the 50%, so it didnt really work :)

Had a 30 min. race at Sebring, GT3 gen2 class, with mandatory pitstop. Pitted, and got black flagged on the last friggin’ lap, for not pitting and ignoring mandatory pitstop. I thought this had been sorted out years ago

    LMDh, LMP2, GT3 @ Daytona

LMDhs are going to lap GT3s. At the bus stop, if the LMDh is stuck behind the GT3, they are riding their rear bumper. At the exit from the bus stop the LMDh swerves right, gets into oversteer, and corrects it after a very dramatic half spin or spins the car fully. Almost every time in this situation. Absolutely broken this combo for AI...

108 strength. Tested with medium and high aggression.

The more I drive the more I regret getting these DLC packs. Reiza, get it together please. These aren't AI improvements as promised and hyped. Come on.

Edit: Instant disagree reaction. Why the hell would people leave feedback anyway... Did I imagine this scenario and AI issue, you think? No I tested it multiple times. Spoiler alert, that's multiple times spending some time catching up to lap them. Should I be happy about this?

I hope that this update is a basis of something better to come, AI-wise. There is the basis of something great there, but there are some pitfalls (All expressed before) that can snap you out of the immersion and remind you "Right, I'm in a videogame". Which isn't bad per se, but some of this stuff I've never seen before this patch.

i'm obsessing over the AI pit strategies in the GT1s at the moment. I know it'll get handled. But they were working well in 1.5. But with 1.6 they just really wanna pit unnecessarily, and with no tire warmers and separate fuel + tires it really puts them at a huge disadvantage. And omg, I finally got the mod cars to finally work appropriately and be on-par with the Reiza GT1s - I had to mod the mods myself! So in 1.5 the mod cars were cheating and I was racing well with the Reiza GT1s. Now finally the mods aren't cheating so don't have an advantage - and all cars would have a competitive race. But now the Reiza GT1s have stopped pitting the way they did before lol. So I'm now racing against the mods while the Reiza GT1s get lapped over and over pff.

@CrimsonEminence tell me you guys have this on your radar lol

I'm thinking of putting fuel at x1 or even disabling it, and really pushing tire wear to encourage pit stops that way as a workaround in the meantime. But I hope I can get to my standard x2 fuel and x3 tires that's worked so well up until now.

Can someone confirm how the AI handles pit strategies with the modern prototypes?

Are you seeing all this in real time or spectating / analysing replays looking for it?

Not something I’ve noted but not something I’m looking for specifically TBH.

I SOLVED IT! It wasn't the fuel, it was the TIRES.

So I've played with x2 fuel and x3 tires to make things spicy, you know?

After 1.6, the AI was pitting at twice the rate as me. So what was happening? Its possible it's always been this way, but it really became a problem at Road Atlanta where you can easily go a lap down if you pit - so the problem was really highlighted here.

So, I thought the AI just didn't want to get close to running out of fuel, so they would pit with 30, or 40% of the tank left - over compensating, and ruining their race in the process. So as a test I put the fuel at authentic (x1) and tires at x5. To give them lots of room for their fuel to not run out, and still be forced to pit due to tires (because I like pit stops - otherwise I'd turn tire wear and fuel usage off - and may as well play pcars3).

It didn't work. They were rushing to the pits right off the bat, the entire field!

So I tried x2 fuel and x2 tires. Wouldn't you know it? Now they're back to running acceptable pit strategies. This is on Road Atlanta, so super easy to go a lap down when you pit. So now they're almost pitting at the same rate as me.

I'll try x1 tires and x2 fuel, next. Maybe that'll give the best results with the AI not compromising their race needlessly.

But whatever it is, the GT1 AI is just verrrrry sensitive to getting tire wear, they don't like it at all, and choose to get rid of those tires and get new ones. Their pace doesn't drop off much, that I noticed. They just wanna pit and get new rubber.

But with the last test I made, wow, what racing. Incredible. The way AMS2 should be.

Real time, literally in front of me. While going through a full grid of 16 or so GT3s (3 classes max AI numbers divided by 3). I went from last in LMDh to like P8. Majority of positions gained was from the AI behaviour described above.

I did check the replay to analyze exactly what the hell was going on, why are they spinning at the exit. A few accidents did happen on the entry but that's "ok". This exit thing however looks weird and unauthentic.

Hey did anyone else notice lower classes losing a lot of time when getting lapped?

Agree with the vast majority of this and I think we've gone back and forth in various versions of the game as to how exaggerated each one of these behaviours is.

No disrespect to Reiza but I'm beginning to wonder whether the sort of racing a lot of us hope for from the AI is just a bit beyond what can be achieved within the limitations of the engine and whatever scripting they have available to them.

What I think would be a useful experiment from Reiza would be to do a single car and maybe a couple of tracks and optimise it to the best state they can. Something fairly popular and driveable for most people. For example seeing as everyone seems to love the new LMP2s maybe them and use something like Spa as a longish track and say Oulton park for something a bit twistier. They then concentrate on that for a bit and say here you go we think this is the best we can do.

Then at least we would know what they think is a best case scenario and we would be able to set our expectations about what is achievable. We'd probably never get every combination to that standard but at least we'd know what they are aiming for.
