This is the one many use. It lets you charge headset while you play.

    You're the MAN!
Haha, I was looking for such a cable.
I have a Pico 4 since a few days and I did notice the normal USB cable I have, does charge also: isn't this a problem then?

Main thing is: when I shut my system down, the power goes of and I have to remove the cable, put in the other.....I don't want to do that due to where it sits in my rig, but also: the sockets won't get any better over time.

So the main question here is: when you plug in your charger in the box: does it charge the headset still, even when the system is powered OFF? That would be perfect!

Someone else will have to answer that. My cable has been closeted since I moved to Virtual Desktop months ago. My feeling is that it would still charge, but can't verify.

I think it's to do with the longer cable length that'll let you move around more (not necessarily a big deal for sim racing depend how far away your PC is, but if you're buying the cable you may as well get one that'll let you play Half life Alyx) As they get longer cheap link cables can fall out of spec and can cause issues. A short USB cable should be perfectly ok to charge it.

With the quest 3 Meta sell a link cable but it's pricey, and then there are a lot of 3rd party sellers most of whom are cheaper - it's just a case of finding the cheaper one that isn't too cheap and that works as intended - which people have linked to already.

One question to the people using original Link cable or cables with 5 or more Gbps on Quest 3:

Has anybody more than 2.6 Gbps with (any) cable? I think the official cable has 5 Gbps and the Quest 3 cant do more than 5 Gbps. Would it be somehow beneficial to have more then 2.5 Gbps?

I had a 2.5 Gbps third party link cable and got 2.3 - 2.6 Gbps in the Meta USB test.
I now have bought a 10 Gbps cable and connected it to my USB 3.2 (Gen 2) port, but I still get max 2.4 Gbps. Also tried the 3.2 Gen 1 port, same speed.

They should all have more than enough bandwidth if they pass the test, my one has been as high as 3.2 gbs on some tests but it doesn’t make any difference.

The Kenable cable I use is 5m with no extra power connection. I have it connected to a standard USB C connector on my front IO. I get between 2.6gbps and 3.2 and it will trickle charge my Quest 3 so that even after 3 or 4 hours I’m still between 50 and 60% charged. Unless you are doing really long sessions thats good enough for most people.

The other thing to think about is the position of your headset relative to your PC not just the distance. My PC is to the right of my setup and the Quest 3 connects on the left of the headset. You need a right angle connector to go into the side of the headset so it sits flush and then I have a couple of velcro ties that run it along the left side of my 3rd party headstrap. The cable then goes over my left shoulder down to the floor and then is long enough to have a fairly shallow curve round to the PC which is front right. I use a cable clip to take the tension of of the cable so that I’m not pulling down on the cable with it’s weight on the USB socket and it builds in some extra slack to avoid any accidents.

That one won't keep your headset charged, so your play time will be limited to the life of your headset battery. You may get a bit of trickle charge, but nothing like when you use a cable like this one, which actually plugs into your charging port and keeps your headset at 100% charge.

    Hi guys,

HP Reverb G2 and 4090 here! I can't really complain with the FPS with full grid in any situation (even 26 F1 cars and heavy rain with ultra settings including particles) but, for some reason, if I switch to GT3 cars (also 26 cars but light rain and medium particles) I got very low FPS...I read somewhere that it might be the headlights of the AI cars...is that possible? I know I might run AMS2 with open composite rather than Steam VR, but because I use OBS and OpenVr Capture to record gameplay, I'd rather stick on Steam VR...any help??

The reason that the answers aren't consistent is that a lot of the time it's going to be down to the amount of power the USB socket they are using can output.

I'm not sure how good an idea it is to keep your Q3 constantly at 100% battery. If you are never going to use it without a cable it probably doesn't matter but if you are it might be better to just have a cable that's going to allow it to trickle change and slowly run down. I have seen reports of battery degradation on Quest 3 that has been blamed on full charging cycles.

Just having a trickle charge is only really a problem if you want to do really long sessions. My cable trickle charges and when the Quest 3 is turned off I only charge it back to to 80ish percent. I can then play for 3 hours or so and still have 50% charge so having a higher power delivery doesn't matter to me.

I understand now why you would need that extra bit in the cable, to connect power to it, but if your usb port is at full power the quest should charge through it

Be sure to let us know how it works out. Those unpowered cables charge a Q2, but haven't seen one yet that charges a Q3.

VortexVR USB-C to USB-C cable and using Virtual Desktop. Does not fully charge, it just keeps the battery at the same pretty much full charge. After nearly 1 year of use i am at 94% battery.

I had various problems with my USB power draw, but bought a USB tester and could finally figure out what the actual power draw from the various ports was. Life saver.

As long as it gives my VR visor the best performance, doesn't matter if it doesn't keep it charged, my gaming Sessions are short anyway
