I have a sporadic problem where my mirrors are greyed out in online race servers. Usually a rejoin attempt will fix this. This afternoon, I was unable to get them working for love or money. They worked online earlier today and work fine in any offline function. Any help appreciated. Can't race without mirrors.

Turn OFF enhanced mirror display in options when on line. This bug needs fixing, I'm sure it's already been reported.
Sometimes it's fogged in Practice and Qualifying, then when starting the Race, they are clear again. Very odd responses.

Thanks. I'll try that. I race online each week and have only had this problem very occasionally. I did search for quite a while in this forum and via google prior to posting, and found no helpful information.

This bug has got worse of late. Each race I join someone using VR reports greyed out mirrors. Never the host. Until recent updates a few rejoins or even a restart could restore them for me, but now most online VR races are fully sans wing mirrors, permanently. This is starting to be a bit of a show stopper. No suggested fixes seem to work.

I wonder if it's not a resource issue? Hitting limits of gpu ram or something?

I take it that the mirrors are basically just 3 different camera views rendered to a texture. Well maybe there's no space for the texture so it's silently failing?

The trigger sometimes seems to be if your the first person into the lobby/session in a different car . so for example I was the first BMW gt3 on track in practice session and couldn’t shake the fog at all , even after a rejoin and a game restart , I was still the only BMW until later in session, but the fog persisted throughout qualifying and race despite being joined by another BMW later in practice.

Yeah, that would certainly lessen the probability it's the cause but system ram is immaterial and modern VR headsets are still rendering to high resolutions and people with big gpus tend to max out settings.

And a similar bug has happened in other games and it's typically "fixed" by a setting that turns down the detail of opponent cars or something suggesting a resource error.

I assume the usual overlays that show stats like gpu mem usage don't work in vr?

It's difficult to fathom a coding reason for it. Why anyone would code mirrors that work differently in multiplayer? So what are the differences in MP? I'd suggest it's resource related. Not the least someone posted that they force on some of the settings that you can disable in single player.

The patterns people are looking for - like you're the first person with a red car etc - these are the kind of patterns humans spot when they don't really exist.

Could be wrong, I'm just guessing, but it would be something I would be looking at if it affected me.

My issue is on flat screen btw :) and also disabling enhanced mirrors doesnt fix it

BMW M4 GT3 consistently fails on this for example

It’s not a users hardware or resource issue.
Everyone in our community has experienced it at some point , despite all the different configurations of hardware .
In fact it might very well be more likely to happen if you turn down settings in game as not all mirrors are the same level in the game , and some might need environment reflections or general reflections and car detail high to ultra to do what is required.
I know I had no problems the week before with the BMW m4 , but I do recall turning a couple of settings down in anticipation of heavy overcast conditions .
Those were dropping some details listed , from ultra to high etc .
It may not be dissimilar to when you see cars in the showroom with transparent textures if you have one of these settings to low .

Well people general have either an AMD or Intel cpu and an AMD or Nvidia graphics card. That's really only 4 configurations. Which, yes, if, e.g it happens on AMD or Nvidia would eliminate the possibility it's a driver bug - although everyone in this thread has a Nvidia gpu.

everyone in our group of 30-40 regular users has something different.
You’re going down the wrong track .
There’s likely an environmental asset not loading to the unlucky player when they join the lobby . And it’s is more or less pot luck , though it’s worth noting if the affect user is the first of a different car in a multi class or class with multiple cars in the class .
When people describe it as grey our mirrors, it’s actually not true, it’s foggy , and will improve when direct light from the sun is pointed at it and then thickens when not .

They really don't. Not relevant things. Lore used to be "Oh pcs there's so many configurations" but there really are not. Not any more. A couple of different cpu vendors and a couple of gpu vendors. That's all that's left - and it's the same driver for every nvidia card.

Like I said, it could be something else, but until you know what it is you can't say definitively what it isn't and shouldn't rule it out.

been an issue for so long many of us who have experienced it have changed cpu and Gpu , been through many driver updates and game versions, in that time and still see by random chance , it’s not regular enough to be related to someone’s system .
It is something that happens when loading into a lobby . As mentioned above.

Undoubtedly, but if you had one nvidia card and got another that really means nothing. The days when GPU designs started from scratch and each card had a new driver a long gone. It's more or less the same. A few bugs might affect 4 series but not 3, but in general it's the same thing.

And if perchance it was a driver bug if no one has determined that - it would be a bug that persisted across drivers so updating the driver doesn't mean it can't be a driver bug. Some bugs are in drivers for years.

I mean you've been reporting it here for this length of time too - and the game has been updated numerous times too. Does that mean the bug can't be in the game? Of course not. But that's what you just said about the driver. "I changed the driver so it can't be that" - well you changed AMS2 from 1.5 to 1.6 so it can't be that either. Nope.

That said the fact you say lowering settings triggers it and it is MP makes me wonder if it is related to settings they force on like the smoke in some way causing rendering bugs.

The point here is to think about things it might be. If you already know what it is then don't leave us guessing say what it is. But if you don't know then there really is no point arguing it can't be something that it could be. There's no strong evidence of what it is sufficient to eliminate them.

your stubbornly not following the evidence , if it was hardware or system software related there would be a trend . There isn’t … it’s clear .
If their was it would affect users offline as often as online .

I haven’t said I know what causes it, otherwise it would be fixed , im just pointing to possible settings that might make it more likely and if that was true , then that gives some direction to what to look at for Devs .

only they can investigate what assets get loaded from the lobby and at what point one might go missing , and then look to reliably recreate it .
so that's why it’s important to give actual examples and feedback … rather than a oversimplified theory.
If 100 different users using 100 different systems experience the same issue with a piece of software…… it’s clearly not the software according to your theory.

let’s just summarise what this thread has highlighted.
This ongoing and seemingly random issue is still prevalent and as many many uses know is normally cleared by exiting and rejoining lobby , but since recent changes to the MP system we now have documented cases of the issue persisting even after rejoining and even restarting game .

I think that’s a pretty good example that recent changes have escalated it . So I’m sure Devs can look back at those changes and look at possible triggers.

My bad. I didn't realise you were a developer. If you have the source code and could fix it I'll leave you to it and look forward to the update. Good luck tracking it down.

No, you didn't provide any evidence. You think it's something else. That's fine, but you don't know what it is. There aren't 100 variations in systems with 100 users - like I said there's a thread here of reports and every one has pretty much the same GPU vendor. There's really no the variety you imagine. Not for 30 years now. But I can only tell you this so many times before it's futile. There are about 4 variations, and only really 2 that are relevant not hundreds.

But it's moot, you said when you find the bug it will be fixed so I won't keep you.
