When I purchased the game a few years back, I had this issue where the game would freeze completely when transitioning in the menu, in the options menu namely, or from the race to the otions, or after completing a race going back to the main menu. It seems to always be associated with a transition or saving (when the yellow icon is shown on the right hand side). This annoyed me so much that I ended up not playing the game for months, maybe years. This time I decided to give it another try since the game became more popular with the updates. I had longer forgotten of the main issue why I stopped playing it, but realised soon after restarting to play it. The issue remains the same, it freezes during a transition. And I can't even access the desktop or task manager, so I have to either restart the pc or sign out. When I get to enter a race (if I'm lucky), the game runs smoothly without any problems irrespective of the graphics quality I choose. I have tried several things! None were successful. Deleted saved files. Nothing. Uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Nothing. Moved game to another disk using Steam. Nothing. Verified files integrity using Steam. Nothing. Have Uninstalled and installed on a different disk. Nothing. Have installed the game on a ssd or a nvme. Nothing. Have changed different settings in the options menu for performance and graphics. Nothing. I really don't understand what the issue might. For me this is super frustrating as it is the ONLY game that causes me this. I play many racing games without any problems, including PC2 in the past. My hardware includes a GPU NVIDIA RTX 3090, CPU is 9700K, motherboard z390 Aorus Pro Wifi, among 4 different disks (2x ssd, 1x nvme and one hdd), Ram is 32GB. This is for the longest and unsolved problem I ever had in the history of computing and is driving me nuts. If anyone has had this issue, would really appreciate feedback, please.
Is anything overclocked? If it is put it back to default and see if it still does it. I chased a problem like this for 3 weeks. Mine would only crash on a big update or if i tried to download multiple mods at the same time. Once i removed the overclocks on the gpu and cpu it fixed it. I should have remembered from PC2 days. It was common to find even remotely unstable overclocks if you ran PC2. I think it was because it uses AVX and most games dont.
Thank you for your reply. As far as I am aware, I run everything as standard and haven't changed any OC options on the GPU. Don't know if this print screen helps in any way, but I know very little or nothing about overclocking.
Other than checking and possibly bumping back the avx setting thats the only thing i can think of. If that doesnt help unfortunately you are back to troubleshooting. Maybe a power supply going? No idea how big it is or how long its been in the pc?
My PSU is the Corsair RM750x Modular ATX PSU - 750 W . I was wondering if that could be the problem, but would you not expect the PC to switch off rather than freezing if the power was the issue? I will have a look at the AVX settings.
That power supply would be the minimum for that gpu in a perfect world when its new. Not knowing the rest of your specs you might want to use one of the power supply calculators but my guess is its marginal at best. Ive learned recently troubleshooting pcs is a bitch sometimes. Never say never. I just had my stepsons pc only crash windows on the loading screen sometimes or let you get in a game sometimes and hang. Some games with lower demands worked fine.Turns out it was the gpu. I ended up turning the gpu way down and got it to run reliably at a slower clock. Just a bad gpu but drove me nuts because of the crashing windows on loading. Didnt think to look at the gpu.
Thank you for your suggestions. I literally just updated my BIOS as I haven't done it for years, hoping that it would resolve the problem, right? Wrong. It remains the same. In the options menu, when reconfigured my controls (since I made a clean installation of the game too), as I click on "back", the son of a bitch freezes again. I'll give up for now.
Its frustrating.lol I know id work on my stepsons pc for a couple hours a night then give up and come back the next day.
