    no need to be shocked.
Just buy Photoshop and start painting ;)
    You don't have the skills?
Nobody started as pro. It always starts with the first attempt ;)

Reason for that might be that there are too many slots for the DFY engine (20 when you just need 6(?) to accurately simulate the 1984 grid (with the F-Retro Gen3 cars). If at some point it should be possible to create a kind of custom grid from the existing cars without restrictions, then the 1984 F1 season should be possible by simply reducing the number of DFY engines and giving the resulting places to the turbo engine. But that doesn't seem to be possible at the moment. A similar case is the 1993 Indycar season: there was only the Lola and Penske chassis at that time, so it makes little sense to replicate that season at the moment, as there are too many Reynards "in the way".

The DTM 1991 pack will release as soon as 1.6 drops.

    - 30 skins
    - custom AI file representing the 1991 season
    - added the Stock Car 99 as the Opel Omega (if you need a challenge: choose the Opel :D)

Wright Motorsports is complete, now on to the GMG Porsches. Planning to have the GTWC and GT America packs finished early next week.

Working with Gimp all the time ... it's great.
Want to share a feature that i missed for a long time.

Normally, you have to merge all visible layers in order to export to dds.
It is much more convenient to have your layers in a group. Then you just select the group and then export ... extension to ".dds" ... set compression + mimaps ... done.
You can have more groups alongside or single layers for spec or/and fresnel.
Just create a group and drag/drop your layers bottom to top into the group.
    LayerGroupGimp.jpg
Make sure to use correct compression. (BC3/DXT5 when the alpha channel is required)
    compression.jpg
    Always export with mimaps.

    happy painting.

Wonder what the alpha channel is used for?
Cannot see any difference between DXT1 and DXT5, except the file size is doubled.

oh O,O ... it seems to matter when the vehicle has translucent parts like windows.
    info from elsewhere:
    DXT1 = no alpha or 1bit alpha (2 colors)
DXT5 = all 256 levels of grey in alpha
Use DXT1 for textures without alpha or with simple two-color alpha.
Use DXT5 for textures with smooth gradient alpha.

Thank you Wolfgang for pointing this out. :)

Thanks that is super helpful. Couldn't find much tutorials skinning with gimp, every tutorial has photoshop and I can't justify spending money on that for a hobby. I need to learn more on the spec maps and I have been really trial and error with the compression so your table is much appreciated. Cheers

Whilst talking of GIMP. Does anyone know if there’s a way to adjust the whole alpha channel at the same time for the image?

Alpha channel always exists and goes for the sum of all visible layers.
You can check it in layers tab "channels".
Black = transparent, White = opaque, greyscale = in between
    upload_2025-1-6_22-47-40.png

To make it editable you have to create a layer mask (right click layer / add layer mask).
you can select how it gets initialized. Then you will get a companion layer with the alpha info.
use the right click context menu to show/edit/deactivate.
    upload_2025-1-6_23-0-32.png

For an image it controls the transparency.
When using a separate spec for your skin, the alpha controls the amount and the "normal" layer the tint of reflected light.
When using a metallic BASELIVERY, it will control the metallic effect vs full gloss.
(in this case it gets tricky, you cannot add a mask to layer group, you have to merge all layers upfront as far as I know)

time to create a Gimp topic ... o,O

Adding DXDT to the GT World Challenge grid. Pretty sure the 64 car will look the same at Daytona next week, so I may update it with the IMSA livery. The polygonal gradient was an absolute pain, and I ended up winging it.
