I tried racing this combo (with the 98 cars) against them yesterday. Qualifying was normal, managed to get myself in P5. Then when I got to the race, I was suddenly about 2 seconds per lap slower than everyone.
It was a 50 lap race with x2 fuel usage, normal tyre wear. The AI was probably a little lighter than me, since I was running with a full tank of fuel, which wasn't necessary, but nothing explains that big of a gap.

Same thing happened when I tried racing the 2000 cars at Gateway - put myself around the middle of the pack in quali, but when the race began, I was 1-2 seconds per lap slower. Same settings: 50 laps, x2 fuel usage, normal tyre wear, and a full tank for myself. Once again, I think the AI was a little lighter, but not to a point that explains that big of an advantage.

It feels like their fuel doesn't have weight. That doesn't explain why they are this fast in TT though.

Hi, I'm new in this forum, I purchased the game when v1.6 released.

Maybe you guys have already discussed this alot but, I've noticed a disparity in AI competitors in some classes, for example, the lap difference between 4th and 16th place is like 0.8s, very tight and that's 100% fine, but between 4th and 1st place is almost 4 full seconds, that's like the 3 first positions were set at a difficulty above the rest of the grid.

Is that normal or should I set AI based ony on the 3 fastest AI drivers to be able to compete for victory at all?

Well it can depend on the car class, in the F-HitechG1 the model that represents the Williams is much faster, which is pretty accurate. In the Vintage G1 though the V12 is much faster which is not accurate, same with the German Touring, the Audi is much faster as it was in real life.

The game tries to simulate the real life racing of the classes it simulates, so in the older classes you might see a very big difference between the top and the rest, even with the same model sometimes, it should not happen in the more competitive classes thought.

I see your point but that's not it, the top three difference is too high to be anything close to reasonable. But I've finally figured out what was it.

After more testing, I've found out that what was causing this issue is when I click on "Skip to the end" button. If you stay during all session duration, all AI laptimes remains consistent (from first to last), but when you resume the session, for some reason (bug?), it drops the top 3 laptimes hugely.

Ex: difficulty set to 100, the AI leader (GT3 Gen2) lap time was 2 seconds under the world record time on Spa Francochamps, and 2s separated the top 3 AI. The 4th place was 5s behind. lol

Skip to end times in practice and qualy are bugged in most classes yes, but I dont get what you mean with resuming the session affecting the laptimes.

Resuming the session from pausing it? From alt tab the game? Or did you mean skip to end the session?

Yeah... I meant "Skip to the end of session". When I use that button, the bug happens.

It aims (and generally does) simulate the spread of field in that given class/ year of racing. For instance, if you look at the 1992 F1 grid its very spread out vs what you would see today. If you head to Race Department there's also some really great mods that will simulate the season with accurate drivers, liveries and performance.

I see, but i don't think that's the case cause the disparity is too big, and I mean really big. You gotta agree with me when the AI (set to 100) pole in GT3 Gen2 class in Spa is more than 2s faster than the world record on time trial, right?

After I figured out what was causing the "bug", it became clear to me. When I go through the whole session without using the skipping to the end of session button, the laptimes became very tight and within the difficulty level selected.

Anyway, I hope they fix it in upcoming patches.

Car / Track used: stock car 2019 (may be others), Daytona Nascar layout (may be others)
    AI Strength setting: 100
Corner (if issue is corner specific): start

At the race start at the back (max drivers for class), the AI just turn to the right and into the wall in some cases, as soon as the lights go off for a standing start. It seemed that higher up the grid went better. Starting at the back is next to the final chicane in this layout, don't know if that matters.

(Also general AI lines were poor, cutting the grass at turn 3 (? hairpin), and not using the low line on the banking, unless trying to overtake.)

    Hi!

What to do, if the AI is on a specific track/car combo 2 seconds a lap slower than myself even if the AI strength is set to 120?

Point is: Try Monza 10k no chicanes using F-USA Gen. 1, use my setup from Time trial and you drive around 2:02. In quali and race, the AI will do 2:04 at maximum if strength is set to 120.

While in race, you can observe the AI being VERY fast in the corners (not in the banked ones) and VERY slow on the straights (including the banked curves). You can tell from the times distances, which go down by about one half second each corner if they run behind you. On the straight, the time distances increase back again (and more than they get down in the corners). Result: winning miles ahead.

Thanks for help or suggestions in advance,
    herakles

I am quite sure that driver consistency does not work in qualifying, I set qualifying_skill the same for all drivers in F-Retro-Gen2 (0.97), and still Brabham BT46 are the first, all Lotus79 after them, and then standard model drivers... even when qualifying is just 5 mins! Whole field was 1.5 secs apart (pole- 22 nd position). And consistency values were set 0.10 - 0.20 for Lotus79, Brabham drivers!

Offline races no matter what settings you use are ruined because the AI regularly bugs out when closely following someone. And they also cannot rejoin properly.

EDIT: Did many more tests and even with AI mistakes set to ZERO, they make the weird spinning crash like in the video with every track / car combo randomly.

This problem with rejoining after having some kind of accident is there since day 1. As I have no knowledge about programming an AI, I have no idea how this can be solved.

A 1.5 second spread is very small for that class, you might want to increase the skill spread, or you might like close racing so don't mind me then. Do keep in mind that the Brabham BT46 is the fastest car in that class by a pretty big margin. If you don't want them winning every race, you need to lower their race/qualy skill a lot, start at .70 and adjust it accordingly.

The consistency value is more noticeable in long races and full championships, I have seen some drivers have an off weekend when doing championship and it's thanks to the consistency value. On a single race weekend it doesn't do much, other than make them do a bit more inconsistent laptimes.

I have absolutely loved AMS2 and drive it almost exclusively now over AC, ACC and RR. I was so thrilled when the Weather Tech series got added as this is my favorite kind of racing and I attend races regularly.

I generally drive GT3, vintage F1 and Indy 95, and have been dabbling in the P2 car since the update. I have been competitive in all categories with AI set to 100-110% depending on the car and track.

But something happened recently. AI has been given an unrealistic boost in performance somehow. With AI set to 90% I find myself 10-20 seconds off the pace per lap! Doesn't matter how I set the car up or what car I drive, AI is blowing by me on the straight like I'm in a different class car!

I normally drive the McLaren GT3 but switched to the Porsche then BMW to see if it was the car. It wasn't. I was still being blown away on the strait. I could keep up or do better than AI in the corners but on the strait it wasn't even close!

Driving the vintage F1 at Kyalami I could compete with AI for the pole and race win. Today I was 6 seconds slower than the slowest AI.

Something changed drastically and not for the better in my opinion. I'm very frustrated and to the point of not wanting to drive AMS2 any more.

Has anyone else had this problem?

    REIZA, are you listening?

How is your rear wing setting, I find that default is way to much for me.
I keep decreasing it until I find high speed cornering is an issue.

    I also hate understeer,... :p

    Hello!

I have been using AMS2 for quite some time now (must have been years already). I was always fascinated and motivated to go on with the development process and waited for things to get better.

But I think, I've reached the point where it won't get any further.

My current observings regarding AI are absolutely not tolerable anymore. I would have loved to do a race in single player mode - a thing that was always pointed out as something, AMS2 would do better than other games. So I tried with Monza 10k - no success (see other posting from me in this forum). Then I thought (being tolerant and wanting to give AMS2 some air to breathe and develop, me being kind again) "ah, well, Monza 10k is hard to program for AI, because it's a mixture of road track and oval." So never mind.

I chose F-USA instead and an oval. As these two things are officially released as part of the "Racin' USA" packs, I thought, these would work anyways.

AI at 120 - laptime in Daytona around 35,8 sec. for Pos. 1
AI at 70 - laptime in Daytona around 35,8 sec. for Pos. 1

No change at all, no chance for me to compete with the opponents. I even reinstalled the whole game, also deleting my "personal files" in my Windows 10 home directory, so I had a clean fresh installation. Extensive testing, but still no change. Apart from that, AI is behaving sick again and again, over and over again: cars jumping from crashed positions into the pits, AI not able to turn around a car after a crash and so many other things, debris lying on the track whilst being transparent after crashes for the rest of the race, AI not being able to pass another computer driver for laps...

Now the conclusion: Reiza, are you kidding me? Time's up. I've invested more than 200 EUR so far for this game. It's been available for years and still it is impossible to do an single player race.

I know, times were different. But take Indycar Racing II for example - the AI has its flaws, yes. BUT: you can install the game and race against the AI. It will be competitive and you can set the strength the way you need it. Back then, people bought the game without access to the internet - so no regular updates. The games had to work out of the box. And if a game did not work - it did not sell. End of the story.

I am deeply dissapointed. Having invested all the money, I think I deserve an answer to the following question:

When will single player work (AI behaving predictable to a reasonable amount)?

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to embarrass anyone. I am just fed up with the situation and want to PLAY this awesome game. :)
