Hi there! don't know if I just run into a strange "bug" but...Racing with F1 Classic Gen 4 at Donington...did a 10 laps just for fun so I set the 4 weather slots in this order: 1. light rain 2. storm 3 thunder storm 4 heavy cloud And just to see how track and grip change during the race, I've set weather at 50x speed... So the race started and we (me and AI) were all on soft...grip was fine (I think a bit too much...) and by the end of lap 1 (coz of the weather at 50x) the storm was there...AI pitted immediatly before even the first lap was completed...so I decided to stay out... Well with Storm and thunder storm, I've been able to stay out with no problems, there was a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE amount of grip with slick tires...I quit the game and started the race again several times, even changing weather slot but the result was the same: just a few of grip or tracion in two laps, while I assume the track should have been flooded. Again, don't know if it's a bug because few days ago I was doing FP and used 2 weather slots like rain and heavy rain and i definitely could feel and see the difference in grip, struggling a lot to stay on track. Maybe I had to wait 3 or 4 laps to get the track really flooded, but in any case I think there's too much grip with slick tyres in these conditions, especially in medium or high speed corners.
What did you have the time acceleration set to? The live track condition is now controlled by time progression not by weather speed.
Like Odd Socks wrote, live track condition is now controlled by time progression not by weather speed. Therefore, it's much more interesting to know the track state when the slicks feel too grippy. (dry => moist => damp => wet => soaked) When track state is Moist or Damp, slicks should still work fine but will be slightly slower, easiest to notice in how the braking distance is slightly longer than in Dry state. That said, I agree that it makes sense that Storm or Thunderstorm should at least get the track state to Wet even if those weather slots only last for a short while. There could still be an issue that needs to be fixed for certain tire compounds on certain cars, so the more info that can be provided, the better.
Thank you both for the reply! I see, well time progression was set to real life...don't know if this and the fact weather was 50x could have mess things up...
That would do it. Each rain slot drops a certain amount of water / minute. With the time progression set to "real life" that is what is falling on the track. If you set the time progression to x10 the track would react to the weather x10 faster. With the x50 weather progression, you are going through those weather slots at almost 1 a minute, which will likely do strange things. Also, only two of your slots would be dropping more water than the cars lift during racing. Usually light rain does not drop enough water to make the track wet as the cars racing round lift more water in spray and accelerated evaporation through air movement.
Perfect...thank you very much. Did a test yesterday 2 slots, overcast and then storm, both time and weather progression 20x...it works perfect, in the middle of lap 2 it started to rain, but I think in some cases AI is still off...even with x1.15 driving in the wet skill (110 on dry), they drive fine with a bit of water on track (on slicks), especially in traction zones, but then they literally almost stop on track while water on the track is muche more...
Light rain should look visually drier or have more influence on slicks. In the LFM races you can drive with slicks in light rain without any problems, which just comes across wrong as the track looks very wet. Please change this so as not to break the immersion. I don't know if the track should appear drier in light rain or if the slick tires should have more influence.
Heiki is wrong. He was complaining all race long in one of his streams, but the light rain implementation is correct - if not realism-wise (that I'm not equipped to have an opinion on), then certainly gameplay-wise. You should be able to drive on a damp track if the rain is light enough so that there's a drying line. If the rain gets a bit harder, you could still have the option, but on slicks you really gotta stick to the dry line or else. And if it starts raining hard then you gotta switch. But that in-between stage I think Reiza is managing that balance well in 1.6. Gameplay wise, and realism-wise - I trust their judgement.
The problem is not the driving; it just looks wrong visually The track looks very wet, which visually gives the false impression that it’s raining instead of just drizzling. This happens especially when the race starts directly under drizzle conditions. Additionally, sometimes, even when it’s just drizzle, the automatic system selects wet tires when it’s clearly more suitable for slicks
If you stand in the starting grid in light rain, it sounds and looks visually as if it is raining really hard. As soon as the start takes place, the rain becomes much lighter but the road shines as if it were completely soaked. Visually, no racer here would go for slicks. Meanwhile, I know that I can always use slicks in light rain, although the visual view actually wants to dissuade me from doing so.
I will say I could agree with this point - I just had a wonderful race at Spa, Real Weather, x15 time/weather progression. With 10 minutes to go it starts light raining. To pit or not? You could tell the car was handling differently - but it was still driveable. I had to be more careful - but the AI wasn't pitting, and I didn't feel the need to either. But yeah, visually the track looked quite shiny - it did feel a bit misleading. But within one lap the racing line was more apparent - and while the track was moist it was obvious - slicks were the way to go. And with 4 minutes to go it stopped raining altogether (wonderful - love love love Real Weather). And the racing line became VERY obvious - inside the line you were going much faster. Outside was pretty slidey - but still catch manageable. So yeah, perhaps - without changing the physics, only a visual change, the track could be made less shiny - to match what was the right choice - slicks.
I agree. The problem is that in light rain the track visually looks completely soaked, but it drives like it would actually be driven in light rain. Because this mismatch between what you see and how it really is, many streamers are saying that the rain in AMS2 is totally broken and that message is getting through. Lowering the display of water and spray on the track by one level for the different types of rain, would be much more in line with reality and it would not look like the rain is broken.
The question is whether Reiza sees it the same way we do? And if so, how easy is it to make the track look less wet in conditions where the slick tire is faster than a wet tire?
