Im so close to jumping into the PCL but a little worried about performance, on the G2 i run AMS2 at 3400x33xx and it runs very well, so im wondering if i ran the PCL at the same resolution would it actually look any better? If i ran the PCL natively im sure im going to run into GPU limitations (4090 here).

I had the G2 for about a year before switching to the Crystal (original version). The lenses are clearer in the Crystal with less glare, so the Crystal seems a bit clearer/sharper than the G2.
Beware that Pimax's quality control is not the best, so some owners have been unfortunate and got lenses that (although clear) seem a bit like wearing glasses with the wrong prescription, or like the focal plane is a little too close.

I'm fairly happy with my Crystal, but I miss the wide FOV of my Pimax 5k+ even though those lenses hurt my eyes when wearing for longer sessions. I'm not sure what headset to go for next, there are plenty good ones on the horizon now, although all of the serious simmer headsets other than the PCL are expensive. I might wait it out until the Valve Deckard or the next generation of headsets.

I run my Pimax Crystal at 50% resolution which is around 2700-ish pixels. At that level I can clearly see the pixels, especially on long lines such as guard rails, but I love being able to run 120Hz with no frame drops.

Thanks for moving my post, so much less visible here.
Thanks mate. Yeah I've heard about the quality issues so will keep my eyes on that, haha
So at like for like resolution the PCL looks better mainly because of the lenses and not pixel density from the panels?

Can anyone else chime on on the G2 to PCL upgrade if running 3400x33xx on each?
Does the PCL looks clearer in the distance even set at this lower resolution?

I got my pico 4 running automobilista 2 and it's great. But I'm having a hard time tuning the options. I have a 3070 and an i5 9600k. The headset monitor is showing the encode and frametime in red. What could be the issue?
In my research online, I found things like fixed foveated rendering and space warping, but didn't find these setings anywhere.
    Any tips or advices?

Quick question everyone. Has anyone tried the Big Screen Beyond 2? It looks very promising from what the flight simmers are saying. I have a Quest 3 that serves me well but this looks like a good alternative to the Pimax, especially due to how small the device is in comparison. If it supports OpenXR i think this might be the headset i go for next...thoughts?

Some of my online friends, whom I play AMS2 with, are heavily impressed about it. They consider to buy that thing. They refused to buy Beyond 1, but 2 has all they want, so yeah. I believe it might be worth a shot.

    Hey there.
    Question,
Can you maintain stable 90 fps even in a simple scenario like just one car? No fps drops with the 5090, even when your frametimes suggest there is a big headroom?
    Thanks.

Did the same (4090/13700k) - looks great and plays well at native. Few dips at odd points in heavy tracks like Monza start/finish. was very happy with the upgrade and seemed to do ok in the PCL QA lottery.

After more than 1.5k hours in this madness in VR, in 2025 I will keep these settings for AMS2 and try to learn how to race in this thing better than Latifi.

AMS2 running really smooth with great visual quality.

Without a diagnostic tool, this doesn't tell you much. Pay attention to what happens with latency when you increase the encoding to 800. PhotonToMotion is just as important as the frames themselves. ;) At the same time, the monitor views are always shown, not the encoded and edited images from the Quest itself. In principle, we hardly look at the results of your setup, but only at the local screen output. For that, you have to record with the Quest 3 itself.

The diagnostic tools are my eyes and driving feedback. The output recorded is a screen at really low resolution and capped at 50 FPS. Only to see the effects enabled in VR, left eye only, not full quality or FPS or latency ingame.

You totally missed the point: post a video with settings that provide a great experience for specific hardware.

If someone need a starting point, it's just another that can help and save some time.

That's right, it's your eyes and your feedback. However, these diagnostic tools can help the viewer compare better. Especially when the video shown doesn't match the one on the Oculus headset.

Even the video recorded in headset don't match what you see in headset (lower resolution). It's pointless, but will do for fun today, with a lot of layers with useless performance numbers and stats too!

VR is all about how you feel when playing, to be honest.

EDIT: tried to record inside Quest 2. A total mess in performance. Useless for PCVR performance showcase. It craps Oculus Link performance and max recording resolution is FullHD, and this thing is running at more than 5K and 1.4 SS, much more pixel density for things looks nice trough lenses.

The best I can do to replicate how It looks in headset is running at 80FPS in 5K SS 1.4 with the same settings posted. And ingame, not a video uploaded to YouTube, with a LOT of compression.

    That's the way VR works.

Well to answer my own question I can run AMS2 at 85% resolution which seems to be about 3665x4339 at 90Hz. IT LOOKS SENSATIONAL! While the G2 looked pretty good (well so I thought) in the centre the Pimax is on a whole new level across my whole view (I have 20/20 vision).

For me the comfort is good, feels like I'm wearing a baseball cap, can feel it on my forehead and back of skull, so comfy I actually can't even feel it as I'm used to wearing a cap. If it's heavy I can't feel it. The audio is definitely serviceable, not at all anything I'm desperate to replace.

The software is much improved over what the G2 used and its nice to be able to do everything from in the headset, double tap the side to get passthrough and hold the volume + button for 2 seconds to get the desktop in VR, never need to remove the HMD to change cars in AC!

Best experience so far is the BMW M1 at Sebring! Epic!
