Hey guys, Never seen this topic before but am I the only one using gamepad to navigate through the game menu? I'm playing the game in VR and gamepad is the most convenient control to go through the menu without putting the VR helmet down. The order of menu items you go through is just broken, especially when you are on the track: 1. cannot choose correct item in the Options menu - selection goes in unpredictable direction 2. cannot switch from ghost (in time trial) to edit setup 3. cannot press "Continue" without bringing up user popup (become friends, kick) because buttons racers table are selected at the same time a row in the table is selected 4. cannot easily select a car before the race because of 2 column car class and many many more problems. Please fix the problems, just try to play your game with gamepad and you'll see what I mean.
It has all been reported for the last four years, and no you aren't the only one using a gamepad. All of your observations are correct. Gamepad control is not one of AMS2's strong points, but it's not insurmountable. For VR the mouse pointer still works, as does the mouse gaze + enter button and both will give efficient control of the game. If you ever use a wheel, the game may not recognise all your buttons depending on what you have, but SimHub allows you to assign keyboard strokes to wheel inputs which will get you up and running. With mouse gaze + enter + backup you should be able to have a fully usable experience, while the devs work through the issues longer term.
yes, I'm using wheel for racing + gamepad for navigation as I have no space for mouse/keyboard. Assigning keyboard strokes to the wheel won't help as it's not a problem of the gamepad but broken order of navigation elements. It's like you're going through a webpage with TAB button and focus jumps back and forth instead of going one direction. Anyhow, I don't think I should be sorry for using gamepad as the game is allowing to use it but makes the experience absolutely terrible.
Absolutely nothing wrong with using a pad, I play AMS2 at least as much on my Steam Deck as I do on my PC. I was trying to help you navigate the game in VR, so with mouse gaze + one button on your wheel to select, then all the menus can be accessed.
