Increase white flag frequency to make up for lack of yellows?

Hi, yellow flags seem very rare which can make for some dangerous situations online where I round a corner at full speed and there's a car in the middle of the track. I understand this is a long term bug and guess it must be difficult to fix!

I do however see a reasonable number of white flags. If the white flag logic is working better, I wonder if it could be a good idea to increase the sensitivity/frequency of white flags to warn of these stopped cars? Or if people disagree then a slider option that users could adjust based on preferences, what do you think?

So the lack of yellow flags is a known bug?

I don't see any white flags. Nor yellow. Sometimes there's a green flag after a parked car, but never a yellow before. I get the blue flag when about to be lapped by faster classes and a FCY when the game decides there should be one despite no cars standing on the track or near the track. The flag system appears to have some inconsistencies that could use attention.

I've had FCYs trigger on LFM. Here's an example of it:

This was actually one or two that showed up in this online race.

Yes, I see some white flags online but zero yellow flags (other than full course yellows which seem inconsistent but do sometimes appear). I believe this has been the case since AMS2 release and possibly back into Project Cars. That's why I'm guessing there is a deep problem with the yellow flag logic, and asking if the white flags could be made more frequent to make up for this and provide more warnings of upcoming incidents.

Personally on my side I am seeing a lot of yellow flags during my MP-races. Sometimes, of course, a flag isn't triggered and that can lead to interesting situations. I admit there's room for improvement. Keep in mind the host can also turn off flags, cuts, etc.

I presume you mean full course yellows? Or you are actually seeing yellow flags warning of incidents/stopped cars ahead?

I'm seeing none of this in my single player custom races.

I was doing several Copa Classic A races around Cascavel this past week, and there were numerous incidents where cars went off track and stopped, or rejoined and there was a fairly major collision (or chain of collisions), to the point where, in real life, any sane person would expect at least a yellow flag for that sector, if not a FCY. There were at least 4 or 5 incidents like that, and no flags of any kind were shown.

Yet, during two different races, a FCY was released with about 30 seconds left in a timed race. The first time, the safety car led everyone around for the cooldown lap...I went back into the pits and ended the session, while the rest of the field continued to lap (even though the race was well and truly over).

The second time it happened where I got a FCY on the last lap, I decided to stay out after the cooldown lap and see just how long it would keep going. After 6 "cooldown laps" with the entire field seemingly stuck behind this neverending safety car, I gave up and ended the session.

Very odd behavior from the game.

This is really surprising to hear - as mentioned, in MP I do get some white flags but never yellows and I know this is the same for others in my racing group as we discuss it quite a bit

I wonder if there's any chance that this is related to the other instances of the UI not showing information that it should and in previous versions did. For example, the board that shows you've requested or been ordered to do a pit stop doesn't show up a lot of the time.

Also, I'll add my voice to the group saying that yellow flags (just plain yellow, not FCY) are non-existent. I do get white flags occasionally.

I wonder if game mode has anything to do with this as well. It seems, from the anecdotal evidence provided here anyway, that white flags are at least somewhat more prevalent in multiplayer than they are in single player. As I've mentioned, with the exception of FCY - which exist but tend to come out at strange times - both white and yellow flags have been non-existent from what I've experienced running one-off single races.

Had to turn off FCY in my custom championship as it was called for very minor incidents where cars rejoined the race pretty much directly, but the FCY kept going for 3-4 laps. This repeated over several races, minor incidents -> FCY, sometimes multiple times in a 30 minute race, so I gave up, disabled FCY and restarted the championship.

Yes, if the game is indeed producing standard yellow flags (as seen by Marius H and as sometimes reported by Crew Chief) then perhaps they are accidentally tied to a different optional HUD element or something? This could explain why Marius H sees them and others don't.

One other interesting thing - on the full track map HUD element, I once saw a large semi-transparent yellow box come up and cover the bottom left hand corner of the track. I was excited as thought this was a new implementation of a sector yellow flag, but there was no actual yellow flag indicator and I've never seen this happen again! I'm only driving in multiplayer.

In my experience of single player modes, crew chief is only very occasionally reporting yellow flags, white and FCY seem fine. Second monitor is better at yellows and also identifies the sector, but not infallible. From this I deduce that yellow flags are working reasonably well behind the scenes as they must be in shared memory. As others suggest it's most likely an issue with the HUD.

I think it’s worth giving it a try to reset your HUD to default and see if yellow or white flags show up properly during a race. It might be that some users haven’t cleared their AMS2 folder since Patch 1.2 or 1.3, which could be causing the HUD to bug out. Just an idea that popped into my head.

Fresh install on a fresh machine so for me that is probably not the issue but I'll give it a try.

Since I posted my reply in this thread I actually spotted one sporadic yellow flag in a qualifying session. Turned off FCY and restarted a custom campaign and now there are now random green flags unrelated to any incidents (no parked cars or incidents) - maybe it is just bugging out for an incident somewhere else and would have instead triggered a FCY if that was still enabled.

Is there any way to log incidents that happen around the track? EDIT: nevermind, read the reply by ChasteWand about shared memory so obviously there is a way.

Installed the game with 1.6 and same as others. Haven't seen single yellow flag in race(I have played MP only). Leads to pretty bad racing experience in MP for everybody. Recently during race on Watkins glen, crash on top of crest in sector 1 happened. And people coming up just couldn't see car standing there. Yellow flags are mandatory to have organized racing.

By my observation so far, I have seen yellow flags in practice sessions in LFM practice servers, also what hb22 mentions the yellow square in trackmap. And white flags during private qualifier on LFM. During race absolutely nothing, 0, complete darkness, no track LED or HUD elemnts.
