    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help with this as I'm at a loss right now.
First, I have been playing AMS2 since the beginning and never had the issues I have now.
The issues below only happen in AMS2 and not other sims. I don't play many, but RaceRoom, AC, F1 series all work ok.
I have a Fanatec CSL DD wheel with two pedals. About once every 3rd race or practice I will suddenly lose all button functions. The wheel still works and the throttle/brakes still work. When it does this it also seems to lose all force feedback.
In a race I'm done because I can't shift anymore.
The only solution is to quit AMS2 and restart. AMS2 never has any issues finding the wheel or assigning buttons. They all seem to be recognized. It is only during a race that this happens.
-What I've done to try to resolve it (unsuccessfully).
-Updated all drivers in the Fanatec wheel/base set.
-Changed from "auto" to an option with a different degree of rotation.
    -Changed USB port.
-Completely re-installed AMS2 several times, including removing all document folder items.
-Made sure that OneDrive is not running.
-Verified latest NVIDIA drivers were installed.

-Regarding my computer, it was new about 6 months ago. Basic specs are :
    AMD Ryzen 7
    64G RAM
    Windows 11
    NVIDA RTX 4070 12G
SSD (forget the brand but I had my system built by a company, not me lol)

(also again.. I only see this behavior with AMS2)

I am at a loss, because I don't see this happening in the other racing sims. I love AMS2 but it is getting frustrating. I did not see this in previous versions of AMS2 ever before. When it first happened, I just reset everything, re-installed all drivers for the wheel, and it worked for a while. Now it seems like it occurs almost every 3 or 4 races.

Any advice on what I can do to check where this problem is coming from would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Jeff

What preset in game do you use? HAve you chosen a fanatec wheelbase preset? If yes, change to custom or legacy

hmm good question. I will have to check that as I don't remember. I thought I picked something from Fanatec but I normally change the button assignments (for things like camera views, pit limiter, pit requests, etc..
    I will verify, thanks!
Wife needs to do some shopping now so.. I will try it later :)

If you're using QR1 you may also want to check the shift hasn't slipped out, even a tiny bit. Also latest Fanatec driver is still beta, so there's that. A lot of people still recommend driver 455 as the most stable. If by chance you're using the Formula 2.5/X you could try running with SHO off.

Thanks. I don't know what QR1 is or what you mean by "the shift hasn't slipped out". I do replace the wheel about once each day because I use this computer for normal things. I don't usually disconnect the power/USB, but I turn off the wheel and remove the steering wheel when I'm not using it.
Thanks for the information about the driver. It looks like I have 465 for the PC driver.
As a reminder, I don't have any issues with any other games.
I don't know what "Formula 2.5/X" means. I have a BMW wheel that came with the base when I bought it. Sorry I'm not fluent with wheel/pedal sets lol. I bought this mid last year because there was a special from Fanatec which had base/wheel/pedals. Didn't really know what I was buying but my Logitech was really worn out and I had the money so :).
I did try going to the generic settings in AMS2 and so far I ran one race without issues.
    I appreciate the feedback!

I'll assume you have QR1 (thats your quick release). Sorry mis-typed should be "Shaft". If it has moved out at all, you may want to loosen clamp, push shaft back in all the way and tighten clamp.

Formula 2.5/X is just a wheel

Ah I see now thanks for the picture! The shaft seems to be ok (up tight against the clamp) but I will re-tighten.
So far I ran 4 races using the generic option and have not yet had a problem. This is promising!

The fact that it's not happening in other sims gives me pause, but it may be worth checking to make sure that your rig is properly grounded and you're not accidentally and unknowingly transmitting electrostatic interference through it. The base of the CSL DD is metal, and if it's sitting in direct contact with a metal mounting plate on your rig, there's a chance that some static discharge could be passing through and causing things to act up.

Happened to me shortly after I bought my CSL DD back when they first launched. I made sure I had rubber washers separating things wherever I could, and any mounting bolts are wrapped in electrical tape to prevent metal/metal contact. If you have any accessories like shifters, handbrake, etc., those should be checked too.

After doing all that, I've been trouble-free for the last 3 or 4 years now (knock on wood)...

This is interesting, thanks for the reply. I use a cheap desk probably made of particle board and my wheel is mounted to it through wood and my pedals sit on the floor. Since I sit on a plastic chair, there are plenty of opportunities for static electricity to build up. Never thought this would be an issue with the wheel but thanks for bringing it up.
Having an electrical engineering degree, I fully understand static electricity and would expect the wheel / base to have its own grounding wire, but if that wire doesn't find a real earth ground, then problems will be there.
You have me concerned because I am living now in a different apartment now, and I never tested the grounds here. I have noticed my keyboard occasionally typing a few extra characters here and there lol.. so.
Thanks again for the great feedback!
