Before we got the custom dates (seasons) in the 1.2 update the default dates were set for each track and we could not change them. Since the 1.2 update the default dates have all changed and this could be a reason for the change in the screen dirt on the windshield.
For example before the 1.2 update I would race Bathurst at 6am medium cloud, this would create a good screen dirt effect on the windshield especially at the top of the hill/mountain. I did not have this particular date memorised, so now when going to the same track, selecting default date with my same time and weather combo it was not having the same effect as the default date is not the same as before the 1.2 update. Through trial and error I have narrowed the old default date of Bathurst to around February, this is now creating a similar screen dirt effect to what I was getting before the 1.2 update but still not exactly the same and not as prominent.
It’s the same for other tracks, the time and weather settings I was used to putting in to get certain sunrise/dusk/dawn effects which looked amazing simply do not work with the new default dates. So unless I’d taken photos (screen shots) of the default dates previous to the 1.2 update it’s going to be a lot more trial and error on the tracks I like racing to create the same effects as before.
Anyone else noticed something like this or similar?

Hello. I know this is 4 years old, but I still miss the Screen Dirt effect. With it ON it makes nothing

I really hope we will get the screen dirt back in the future. I started AMS2 in March 24 so the effect was already gone and it always felt to me (driving in VR) like there was no windscreen at all.
The recently updated windscreens from the update 1.6 made it a bit better with all those tiny scratches and fingerprints but I can only see those in certain lighting conditions.
It would be amazing if we could get real dirt effects since it's a big part of AMS2's new focus: endurance racing. Just make them optinal as before and everyone should be happy.
    ;)

Having just scrolled through a 4 year old thread ( Screen Dirt ): PLEASE Reiza bring back (optional) screen dirt effects! And while you are at it: Could the dirt-build-up on the cars be synchronized with race time progression so I don't have do drive actual 24 hours for my car to look like this?

There's still dirt, scratches and all that. Screen dirt effect is for chase cams.

Thanks for the clarification, I always wondered why this setting did not seem to work.
As I said: I enjoy the current scratches but in many cases it looks to me like there was no windshield at all. Time to add raytraced reflections for glass surfaces and watch my notebook-GPU melt. :p

I recon there are some people using gamepad and analoge/linear keyboards to play this game. I know one guy who's extremely talented with a pad, so I bet some of them use these screen effects.

Yeah but why for chase cam and not cockpit for VR users?

Yesterday I drove a 25-min-multiclassrace on LeMans in a LMP2 to take a closer look at this whole dirt-thing. Here ist what i learned:
    - the windshield had some smears and scrathes from the beginning (nice) but there was no dirt-buildup
    - my own car and the cars of the AI stayed completely clean for the entire race! This one confused me since I know before 1.6 I could (even in VR) see specks of dirt on my hood or side mirrors.
    - even in the outlap there were no rubber pieces lying around next to the racing line. I remember talking with friends about these amazing details when I showed them AMS2 and now they are gone? (the rubber pieces, not the friends :D)

All in all the track and the cars seemed to be in pristine condition from start to finish which didn't feel like endurance racing should. For me AMS2 is all about immersion and those specks of dirt and rubber were alsways part of it.

Question for the devs: Is this whole dirt-buildup-system tied to some graphic settings? I have mine set to 'medium'/'high' since the beginning. Maybe its part of the livetrack-settings? I usually start at 'high' and have livetrack-progression set to 'synchronized with race.

Sorry for making souch a big deal out of it but I just like my real car to be clean and my virtual car to be dirty - not the other way around as it is now. ;)

I'm sure there used to be a build up of dirt on the windscreen in cockpit view.
