    I'm after a new headset

main contenders pimax dream air SE or Big screen beyond 2e
maybe which ever comes into stock first

hoping that eye tracking comes to AMS2 as both these headsets offer this feature
when I receive I'll try it out for a few hours any eye strain or problems it will go back in the box for a return and refund

I've switched off open XR toolkit and now making use of the user definable black borders in steamVR, gives better image as the PC runs at much lower resolution but in a smaller area
downside is black border top and bottom but imp the performance boost makes up for it

    10900k & 3080, upgrading come winter

Bsb2 eye tracking might not be used for DFR in the future. It is mainly for social eye tracking in VRChat for now.

But OpenXR can also crop the edges. At the same time, you can do without SteamVR and use VD with OpenComp & VDXR. For me, this results in about 15-20% better performance. I used Virtual Desktop with an Ethernet dongle and even got lower latency than with the Oculus software running in the background. After 12 years of VR and 2000 hours of AMS2, this is my favorite.

    Ooo ok thanks for info
    I’ll try open XR crop

    I only use link cable

as I’m getting a steam VR headset soon I wanted to try the features on Steam VR too

It’s also sad that OpenXR has no more support

    Big thanks for info

I understand the the eye tracking gives the foveated rendering exactly where you are looking but I have been using vr for 5 years or more and 95% of the time are looking straight ahead, open xr will also do foveated rendering but only centrally, I don't see eye tracking as that important, or am I missing something?

cracked and returned back to openXR your right lots more performance + lovely sharpener options
I couldn’t get the black border top and bottom , I used oculus tray tool to achieve this after creating an ams2 profile

openXR is the very best option I can find ( performance and options ) for my quest headset , does anyone know if this is also the case for non meta headsets too ??
Eg is steamVR better for them ?

I tested Oculus Runtime via Link cable vs OpenXR via OpenComposite with Quest 3. Oculus has much better frame times compared to OpenXR.

Now try the combination: With OpenComposite and OpenXR, without SteamVR, but with VD and VDXR. In combination with an Ethernet dongle, you'll get even better results.

I meant this already. I don't have SteamVR installed. I will edit the message if it's not clear. I don't want to use VD. OTT with Oculus link is good for me.

Edit: And if you can share the CapFrameX graph with your setup in comparison, that'd be great as well. Without a graph for frametime and comparing them properly, everything is subjective.

Doesn't openxr via open composite automatically mean no steam VR? If not, I have been testing wrong

I won't be at my PC for the next few weeks. This may be delayed.
Ps: A quick question: Did you also use options like CropFov and foveated rendering? These make a difference.

Hi, I have a Pimax Crystal. I always play using OpenXR thanks to OpenComposite, but after three weeks without playing, both the game and OpenComposite updated, and now it doesn’t work in OpenXR.

The image freezes on Reiza's logo and doesn’t continue.

    It works perfectly in SteamVR.

    Any suggestions?

I’ve already uninstalled the game and OpenComposite, but it’s sti
    ll the same.

Do you have openxr toolkit installed as well? If so, try disable for AMS2 as i found it had issues. Might work. Otherwise ensure you have the latest openxr dll and that the ini file hasnt messed up.

But what’s the point of using OpenXR if I can’t use the Toolkit? It doesn’t make sense, right?

    Where can I get tha
    t DLL?

When he says the OpenXR dll, he's probably referring to the OpenComposite dll.

Campbell Suter (ZNix) / OpenComposite · GitLab

    Listed under "per-game Installation".

Hi I'm struggling with AM2 in VR. After I've started AM2 with Opencomposite and Varjo OpenXR the the first UI is much to deep in the field of view. Centering it brings it up ab bit but it is still far away from centered.
    What am I doing wrong?
Is there a way to solve this issue, maybe with a config file what I'm not aware of right now?

Thank you in advance for any sort of help or information.

Just a shot in the dark... use the reset seat keybind, and also cycle views to make sure you are in the cockpit view. Probably not the solution, but a couple basic things to check off the list.

You can change the depth of view by going to Edit HUD/Help screen for the shortcuts (while in VR). I can't recall if this changes the initial UI screen or just the HUD elements. Not able to test at the moment.
